I have listened to this over and over and over. This is so good it’s almost sinful! Lol The piano, the guitar, the trumpet, the orchestra, and of course, the voice. You can feel the Blues in your bones when it’s done right. Don’t get me started about how phenomenal Ray Charles was!!
@@impala327 The great thing also that makes him stand out was that he always took his live shows around the world nearly every year,,,, not just in the states which is why he is universally loved. That to me was a massive minus to Aretha Franklin who for fear of flying never set foot outside her country.
The name of this piece is "In the evening (when the sun goes down)", you can find it on the 1963 ABC-Paramount album "Ingredients in a recipe for Soul".
Ray was not just a 'natural' musician. He was a schooled musician, trained in classics as well as other forms of music. He simply was a genius, which made him appear to be 'natural' at it. I repeat, he was a genius. He operated on a level above the average person.
NO ONE, that's NO ONE, will ever come anywhere near Ray. He was and is the definition of American music. I first heard him in 1954 and have loved him ever since. JB
How can one have such mastery of the keys without vision....I have been playing piano for over 10 years and this is just....Amazing is not even the word. Ray was a musical genius of monstrous proportions, rivalled by no musical artist EVER except i'd say...Beethoven, Debussy, Mozart, and Michael jackson.
I wish that I could have had the privilege to see him perform in person. I didn't know nothing about him, except when the Cosby show did the right time. After the movie Ray, I was hooked. I even bought a couple of the movie soundtrack CD's.
i have no new words... speechless like Ray here.... i too will always remember where I was when Ray died-- I believe Pres Reagan was in lying in state the same day and both shared equal news time.. .I was watching it all go down on a tiny TV screen in an elevator in Chicago, and shared the news with a panel I was giving at the Chicago Blues Festival that very afternoon. R I P
Caught Ray live three times, best of which was at The Blue Note in NYC during summer of 1989. Great experience, but wish I had seen him during the Atlantic years.
Another GREAT SONG by the masterful genius of songwriting, WILLIE NELSON. Ray Price, Ray Charles, Patsy Cline, and many others became famous singing Willie Nelson compositions in the 1950's and 1960's.
"The captivating, invigorating, scintillating sounds of the Genius! The genius of Ray Charles!" That's how his manager used to introduce him in the early days. He got that right.
Ray Charles was a hybrid. Blues, jazz, gospel, country and pop all came oozing from him not to mention his musicianship. Singer, writer, arranger, performer his talent was immense.
just amazing... feel the music going slowly into your soul :) hes still alive his music make we feel him and i hope i can feel it till i die! this is music ladys and gentleman!! feel it!!
and this was only the rehearsal of that show, which was filmed but not broadcast. I know this because I own this concert on DVD. He was simply the best, the Genius in fact...
Mr. Charles tis a blessing... the good news is.. he still is... life like elements...never retires.. it changes and grows... so.. I say.. Ray is still with us... he would never leave us... he loves us....
Can I buy this version of this song anywhere? Does anyone own a vinyl with this specific version from whatever television show recorded it? Ray Charles family members? This song is everything to me.
Another GREAT SONG by the masterful genius of songwriting, WILLIE NELSON. Ray Price, Ray Charles, Patsy Cline, and many others became famous singing Willie Nelson compositions in the 1950's and 1960's. This song, Night Life, was just one tune of many to come from the mind of Willie.
@flitzthesoulreaper Maybe in 50 years you will be the one to love him for a long time, and someone saying that would probably make you happy. I heard him for the first time this week, love it! It's a musician I wont forget!

Okay Randy here is the start and finish about the great man, Almost certainly the greatest voice/ performer in the history of popular music.
@@raymondoakford8357 nah. I love Ray but there’s no “best” anywhere, just being damn good!

PHenomental Ray Charles
Nobody played blue arpeggios on piano like The Genius.
He speaks directly to my soul. RIP
Holy shit. This song is playing him
Saw Ray about 7 or 8 times from mid 50's, just an incredible talent. The only non family member I cried for when he passed.
Me too, I saw Ray since 1963 until 1996 regularly, had the priviledge to meet him and I miss his shows dearly... What a great performer!
Around late fifties when I was in my early teens used to save my quarters up to go up to the Howard theater to see "The Ray Charles Show".
You are one of the lucky guys to have seen the legend,I was born in the early 70s but loved his music, absolutely great talent.
Aww
I should have been there too .
a day without Ray is like a day without sunshine
I agree!
The name of this piece is "In the evening (when the sun goes down)", you can find it on the 1963 ABC-Paramount album "Ingredients in a recipe for Soul".
No matter the style of music, Ray had it covered. He is the greatest.
Country, blues, gospel, soul Ray had it all covered.
Jazz!

He blended jazz, R&B, with gospel music and soul music was born. RIP, Brother Ray❤
That piano solo up front! This is my favorite version of this song, never get tired of it. The best!

This is what I call music!!!

I reckon Quincy Jones is up there with any of them.
The Genius He speaks directly to my soull
stunning interpretation of the late, great Leroy Carr song. Done him proud Ray!
Again--- simply the best we ever had ---- he did it all--- his music will live forever --- Brother Ray my hero--
I've listened to this genius for 50 years. This song epitomizes the man and his music. RIP Mr. Charles.

Awww yeah... beautiful, melty jazz. Rich and smoky... Gotta luv Ray.

I absolutely love Ray. He is the best blues from a Rasta I have ever heard.
Food for my brain and soul, one of my heroes in the music ...
Heard Ray Charles in Tokyo back in about 94 or 95. When you really listen every word and phrase is so nuanced and full of soul. Absolutely love him.
7 minutes of musical perfection. Brilliant!
Damn you Ray Charles. Damn you for ever leaving us. What are we gonna do now? I guess I'll just drown in my own tears.
I bitterly regret never seeing Ray live. Just didn't appreciate him enough in my younger days! However, that has changed.
Who did you follow in your younger days then Neil.
There is a lot of music and acting and I did not appreciate growing up but now that I’m older, I see the talent
Caught Ray live three times, best of which was at The Blue Note in NYC during summer of 1989. Great experience, but wish I had seen him during the Atlantic years.
Ray Charles was an enigma and a highly disciplined soul.
His music is for those that respect the gift of soul to man by GOD.
Another GREAT SONG by the masterful genius of songwriting, WILLIE NELSON.
Ray Price, Ray Charles, Patsy Cline, and many others became famous singing Willie Nelson compositions in the 1950's and 1960's.
Nobody even comes close to the GREAT RAY CHARLES...!!
The Genius of Ray Charles. A fitting description.
The way he hits those blue thirds...So amazing 5/5
"The captivating, invigorating, scintillating sounds of the Genius! The genius of Ray Charles!" That's how his manager used to introduce him in the early days. He got that right.

Пианист Р.Чарльз так же великолепен, как и певец.
Man, I love this song and Ray's piano playing................WOW

"Sheer brilliance. Awsome footage of a master at work......I love this".
0:52 phrase is a work of art!!!!!
Rest in peace uncle Ray
Ah, Soul music...jazz, blues, etc.
another masterful display an example in tempo. A few blues players in my opinion play too fast. Great one missed and his music loved by all.
Ray Charles was a hybrid. Blues, jazz, gospel, country and pop all came oozing from him not to mention his musicianship. Singer, writer, arranger, performer his talent was immense.
one of his best songs ever...love the big band
That guitarist has got to be the best guitarist I've ever seen.

Willie Nelson was 2 when this was released 🤔
how infinitely precious--Ray playing slow blues freely and expansively--you almost can't find that anywhere
The touch. So perfect.

This the TOP......no way to see something like this anymore...only Brother Ray and his Orchestra

Considering the technology of the era, if you see both the Brazil concerts, the director masterfully captured Ray's mood, emotion, band and Raylets!
@flitzthesoulreaper Maybe in 50 years you will be the one to love him for a long time, and someone saying that would probably make you happy.
I heard him for the first time this week, love it! It's a musician I wont forget!
