Ms Jolie Pitt has been speaking as part of the BBC's World on the Move day of coverage of global migration issues. She warned against a "fear of migration" and a "race to the bottom" as countries competed to be the toughest to protect themselves.

If their government was capable of taking them in, then they wouldn't be called refugees. The definition of refuge is "shelter or protection from danger, trouble, etc". These human beings are running from terror and want what's best for their children and frankly themselves. They wouldn't be running away just to piss off the surrounding countries. What we need to do is give these people shelter. I don't think the concept that Sharia law will take over the world if the nations divvy up the refugees is sensible. If anything, divvying up the refugees would probably help with the economy and help start more small businesses around the world. A fourth of people on this planet are Muslim. The world, especially in American media, needs to stop vilifying a religion with a very, very small fraction of radicals in it. We should help them so that they don't have to rot in camps while we privileged Americans discuss the topic over French fries and Coke.

It is true that the UN has lost all control of global disrupted events. In the 14 th century people ran into the neighboring country to weather the events and return home to rebuild their countries.what has changed is a over population of the earth and ease of travel by modern infrastructure causing mass migration to destinations already overpopulated. The result in secondary war and conflict. What is there to be done ? Clearly a UN firm mandate to broker peace as quickly as possible,create safe heavens in war torn countries, and eventually when peace is once again made return the peoples to rebuild their own countries. we all agree on these things but the UN needs to take control before the effects are felt in peaceful areas. There is no other solution there are too many people on earth already.the faster this is done the less is the damage to peace.

Each country has a responsibility to its own citizens first. After seeing the rape increase, women being told to cover themselves to avoid being attacked I think Ms. Jolie needs to rethink her opinions and maybe direct her speech to the refugees and let them know how to act like a human being that respects others.

This is the message the Australian Government needs to hear. Our government for years have been placing all refugees migrating from south east Asia and beyond into prison like camps, on a deserted island in the Indian Ocean. I hope for the future of this issue and that my generation (millennial) will change the way human equality will work both in Australian for the entire planet.
Where are these "most" economic migrants? What statistics do you base your presumed numbers from? The millions of Syrian refugees did NOT leave Syria because there were no jobs. They left because their homes have been shelled and bombed, you moron!
