I said this before but I’ve never (I’m 60) seen a woman change so much thru pregnancy and every video feels a bit miraculous. The words that you have so come into your own are the ones that keep coming to mind. The confidence you have now is just so cool. I think when us women are younger we have a tendency to almost apologize for our lives. Make ourselves smaller in many ways. It’s like you’ve absolutely shedded that nonsense and seem very whole. I love it!!!

@@ElsaRhae I don’t think I fully experienced this until menopause but fully fitting in my own skin is honestly the most important thing that’s happened to me. It’s just so neat that I’ve been able to witness it so clearly in someone I don’t even know. Also, I’ve been watching since very early scamp days

@ElsaRhae I had to chime in here… Amen! Love seeing you both like this, frustrating moments and difficult moments alike, but the authenticity, the truth, the raw… the worlds needs more of this. Our young people need to see you both as shining examples in a sea of so much “fake” and “pleasing” culture. This is life, and the success of life. Thank you, love every minute of every video!

Hi, friends. As a lifelong vegetarian and animal rights activist (and a fan of yours since your first video!) I deeply appreciate your reverance for the full experience of hunting game, cleaning it and processing it. I found it so sweet that your small community came together to process the deer -- bringing in shared tools, knowledge and experience. I really wish all meat eaters had to secure their meat this way. I also thought it was kind of Barron to not show the deer down after being shot -- that is something that could have been considered youtube bait and you chose not to do that. Thanks for always sticking with your values first.

I’m a Hispanic man with a family of my own, and for many years, we lived in a home that we had worked hard to pay off. Before that, as a teenager, I bounced between apartments with my mom and sisters. Those places had plumbing, electricity, and gas, but getting them wasn’t easy. We had to work hard for every bit of comfort, all while dealing with random people we didn’t get along with-and let’s not forget the neighbors.
Even earlier, as a child, we lived in Texas during a time when technology was almost nonexistent. Life back then was simple-no cell phones, TVs, or audio players. If we wanted music, we made it ourselves. Entertainment? We had to create it. And when we felt like being social, we went into town.
Watching your videos brings back a lot of nostalgia for those days. In some ways, I miss that simpler lifestyle and even dream of going back to it, though I’d love to add solar power to the mix. God knows my daughter couldn’t survive without her Roblox, but combining that simplicity with today’s technology could be incredible.

@sharondoan1447 I don't think they're referring to this specific instance, more for the post partum stage.
Post partum is an exhausting stage for both parents but typically it is harder for the birthing parent.

@ Postpartum is shocking to any woman who is a new mother fwor the first time. It’s like Marine boot camp in the initial intensity. I , personally, was 21 and had never even baby sat an infant . My husband and I were definitely clueless in so many ways. As long as our baby boy was still breathing it seemed like a good sign😊. I read the Doctor Spock book religiously , it was the parents handbook of that day and answered many questions. Very helpful. Still very scary time when you have a wee tiny baby dependent on you to do the right thing. We were so in love with this baby !

Elsa, Meal prepping is such a great thing to do. I didnt have a baby but major surgery and prepped 3 months worth. Ended up really appreciating the varieties vegetable/protein soup. I used a combo of canning jars(which you can freeze , put less in google it!) And food saver/zip bags ( not as enviro friendly) but sometimes you won't want dishes. Also pepper or cayenne pepper in soil keeps cats out.
So exciting baby is coming, such a blessing ❤

In reference to the kitty's using a plant pot, I've had that issue before. I solved mine by making dome shaped toppers with chicken wire. It works great esp when you stake it on each side. BUT: someone told me to poke plastic forks down in the soil. That sounds easy too! After my babies, I made a lot of crock pot meals, but that was the 80's- lol. Good luck, you're gonna do great! How wonderful, a baby girl! I just got a grand baby girl named Alyce after me😊

One of the main things I remember from my first child was trying to figure out how to keep myself nourished.
It’s amazing, the sheer time involved, dealing with a newborn!
I was solo but with excellent family support.
My husband was stationed in Korea when I delivered.
    No cell phones.
I remember screaming into the phone that he had a daughter.
    Precious memories.
    I digress

Also when I was little we used to process our own deer meat and other meat too and I remember helping my parents. My dad loved for me to be a part of it. I just remember my parents and their friends and other family members all joining together to process the meat but also spend the evening with their loved ones. They’re in their sixties and still do this tradition almost every year, I live far away now so I don’t get to participate but it’s still heartwarming to see the process. I think your future children will enjoy being a part of that process too one day

Yaass Elsa & Barron! The ultimate meal prepping, meat prepping ;-)
We've lived in an off grid tiny house the past 8 years and just before my first came we got our chest freezer, suuuuch a game changer as a full time parent. Even just cooking double and putting a meal away in the freezer, it feels like total self care. I also like prepping bone broths, and 'ingredients' for meals too, really helps. Nice work team!

Barron, I sympathize with the mental fatigue associated with jumping from one intense thing to another. The weight of that, needing your brain to be super sharp in multiple areas and needing to integrate knowledge quickly into action, that’s some tough stuff and is not to be underestimated. I know you’re up for it and up to it and I also hope you can find time to stop functioning at a such a high level and stop needing to be smart because man that can take a toll. I’m a big fan of your brain: this has been a Barron brain appreciation statement. Okay also, that shot of the four kitty feet in the planter, seriously so cute! Elsa, thank you for sharing your pregnancy with us, you are so delightful, it’s a real joy to see you so fully inhabiting this season of your life. What a gift you’re giving us. The solar not working while Barron is gone is SO relatable. Growing up, every time our power went out or a giant storm came through (we lived in the country 30+ minutes from town) would of course be the days my dad worked. He was a fireman so it was 24 on 24 off. My mom would be the one to fire up the generator and light all the candles, scoop the snow, etc. It’s so funny how the timing always seemed to be “unfortunate” 😂 it’s like Mother Nature waited until the right time to cause chaos. Us women are so much stronger and resilient than we think, but I’m so grateful for the men in our lives who help make it easier.

I'm an outdoors person and love camping, hiking, etc, but don't know if I'd want all the work that's involved in off-grid living. The marshmallows looked good. As you say I can imagine that a lot of it is necessary work for living off grid (my reference is wild camping, is that comparable a bit?). But we also see you both having hobbies and relax together or seperate. How do you plan your day to fit it all in? Do you ever struggle with lack of motivation to do the activities, or do you get overwhelmed with which task to choose, or do you get stuck in your phone? Can you give us your tips?

Soups, stews, lots of bread and whatever you like on your bread. PB&J is great except it gives some babies gas if you are nursing.
Obviously all of the fresh caught meat will be very healthy.🙌🏼 Treats are always a great thing. So sorry about the power loss and your adventure with that. You’re a rockstar Mama and Barron is a rock!

    You're fine.
For the duration of Fatherhood, you will be constantly learning and "switching" from one thing to another.

You two are so hard-working and resilient! Thank you for being honest about the challenges involved in living off-grid.
We lived for 10 years with a 25-foot Airstream and GMC Yukon equipped with solar and propane heat/fridge power so we could live off grid at least part of the time. Being able to solve the problems that inevitably came up took time and work. But, it was worth it. We feel like we can handle almost everything. But when people told us, "You're living my dream," we'd smile and, if they truly were serious, we'd give them an overview of all the decisions, big and small, that were involved in making it work. We'd encourage them to try but to be aware that romanticizing the life will lead to a rude awakening.
Wishing you both a safe and healthy season with the impending arrival of your daughter! :-)

I absolutely LOVE your sense of humor!! I hate to tell you, when I was pregnant, but there were numerous days that I didn’t get out of my gown much less get showered and dressed in street presentable clothes! Do not ask if hair was fixed - but it was clean. You’ll be surprised how comfortable grungy can be. Tuxedo Cats are the best. They’re always ready and presentable!

Maybe if you fixed up a spot for the kitties that's better than the plant pot they would go there instead.

One full bucket of boiling water plus vinegar for rinsing. Soap up the dishes and dip in boiling water. Also, food you can eat cold and one-handed (with a straw) is best. Carriers are great.

NO SOCKS ON WOOD STAIRS!!SLIPPING HAZARD!! My sock-wearing son slipped going down wood stairs while holding his 7-month old. Luckily, he fell backwards and protected the child, but he bruised his back and had a scared, crying child in his arms. Now he wears rubber-soled indoor shoes. It’s really dangerous to wear socks on wood. Please be safe.

I do wood floors, and we make friction strips using clear sand sprinkled into wet finish taped off at the front of the tread. Then put a couple coats over top. Works well and doesn't show too much to take away from the look of the stairs.

We just got 8 inches of snow for the first time ever in Alabama yesterday! FYI snow is extremely rare here and it has basically shut everything down. But it has been so awesome to experience REAL snow! I can't imagine having it all the time. I would get sick of it fast. But having it be such a rare thing makes it special and exciting!

I’m from Napier, New Zealand (east coast of the North Island). I grew up with my dad going on hunting trips to the Ruahine and Kaweka ranges. He would always come back with venison and trout from the rivers that he would smoke in an old fridge at the back of our backyard. My sisters and I would watch him process the meat from start to finish (he was a meat inspector and ex butcher so knew what he was doing) it never phased me and I knew from a very young age where our meat came from.
My dad is too old now to go hunting, but his legacy lives on in my 18 year old son who has been hunting for his work, and our nearly 16 year old son is also interested in hunting.
Your baby is going to grow up and look back on this and appreciate her upbringing (apologies if I haven’t got the sex of your baby right). I know I do, and we didn’t live off grid!
    All the best 😊

It’s fun to have challenges. Not all the time. Definitely it is not fun to come home to find that your day is not done. Barron you are such a nice man. You go ahead and tackle new things and find your way through the tough things that probably wouldn’t be your first choice of puzzles to solve. We know it’s off grid living, but that doesn’t mean you can’t complain. You can and should complain. Complaining is a way we keep our mental balance. My husband’s “job” is to listen to my complaints and compliment me on being an over comer. 😊

I'm not about meal prepping for a stage that is inherently chaotic. I do recommend meal planning: you decide on a bunch of meals you want to eat in a certain period and get the necessary ingredients. Then, you make them according to what your days/nights/weeks are going.

    • @ElsaRhae
      @ElsaRhae  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I don’t understand. Then when everything is chaotic I have to make meals. If I make them now all barron has to do is reheat them.

    • @marianaleitebraga
      @marianaleitebraga 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@ElsaRhae making a single planned meal takes up way less time than meal prepping a bunch of them. I guess prepping makes more sense while the baby isn't born yet but in the first few months you will likely have very short periods of time to tackle anything, really.

I do this too- we have elk in the freezer and the make sure I have veggies and a rice or potatoes on hand. I think of myself as a mom in the 1950’s- it’s quite simple and good. I always feels so much better postpartum then I do big and pregnant. Although I have had 9 kids so nothing was “new” as it can be with your first and I had a lot of helpers to hold the baby while I put a meal together.
I have taken up hunting now that my baby is 5 and the guys don’t appreciate when I tell them being pregnant is so much harder than hunting. Hunting is physically hard after you harvest but it’s not many months of “hard”!
You probably have had the baby already or it’s coming soon so enjoy the newborn snuggles! It sure is a special time and it goes fast.

I agree with your statement about how difficult it can be to live off grid! We live slightly off grid in a tiny home. Between maintaining the compost toilet and Keeping up with propane, keeping things organized because of limited space---it's hard! But I wouldn't have it any other way. Love it!
