***I enjoyed this video. I just wanted to add, I’m a retired medic. I don’t want to sound like a sad Susan here. However to anyone who drives recreational vehicles, atv, dirt bikes etc etc… please wear a helmet. Especially with all those trees I see in this video. The amount of calls we responded to regarding accidents from people getting severely hurt or killed because they didn’t have a helmet on. Countless accidents. People don’t realize that even traveling at a lower speed can and does cause severe head injuries. Most calls we responded to were children and teenagers. Please wear a helmet and make sure your children have one as well. Don’t worry about looking silly if that’s the problem. You’ll look a heck of a lot different with the side of your face drooping (facial paralysis) from head trauma. So please I urge you to wear a helmet and your children as well.***
You are correct. Lot of money and sponsors for this off grid life. It was beautiful but with all those modern technologies it's more like a 1 year camping in the wilderness. I was expecting to see if and how they were able to survive in the middle of nature, away of the modern life support with only what the nature is giving to you.... It was more like going to the grandpa's on vacation into the woods with your trunk filled of goodies, modern big boys toys and many other fancy things. Normal people not even heard about that.
All the originals of the entire cabin series are available on our channel. Check out the Cabin series playlist. Thanks for watching and have a wonderful day.
I thought the same thing good to see another Aussie thought the same only thing I had a laugh about was buying wood and loading it on a boat to take back to your home in a forest 🤣 but may not be like australia
So glad that I clicked on this random recommendation. Love to see your kids learning real life skills that will serve them for a lifetime. Sitting in a classroom for 12+ years of our lives doesn't give us a lot of the skills that we need to take care of ourselves and families.
This is the dream isn't it guys? May we all here in the comments be blessed enough to one day have the family and resources to build and live our dream.
I hope many people view this masterpiece. This is what I needed to see to remind me that I can do much more than I think I am capable of. I wish more individuals and families would take a chance and experience what your family has done. It’s inspiring. Thank you.
I'm not sure how comments like these are relevant. When you have an unlimited budget and frequently go into town for burgers and supplies. This is not living off grid. This is living in your vacation home for a year and staying entertained with everything money can buy to enjoy the outdoors.
There are a ton of videos from people who are struggling to get the essentials. I'm really enjoying seeing off grid with the resources to be comfortable. Like upscale off grid! I don't understand why people are critical of having resources. They're setting up so they can be independent for generations. Good for them 😊
Looks a lot like my childhood in Finland, on an island 12 km from the mainland. My father is a boatbuilder, and my mother is a fisherman's and smuggler's daughter. I went to school with a wooden boat, an icebreaker, a snowmobile or a hydrocopter.
Wow you have had an exciting childhood and life is hard in those winter months ,where I live ,but at least I didn't have to walk to school barefoot and backwards like my mom would joke with us about ,now my Nona and Nono had a hard life growing up in the mountains of Italy and I learned at a young age to appreciate everything that I had growing up, unlike my grandparents I didn't live in a 1 room shack with a dirt floor and have to climb mountains for water ,so I don't take anything for granted, my children know how my grandparents grew up and they have common courtesy and respect for others ,and thank goodness they are both great adults ,I know how blessed I am with my 2 children and now being a Nona ( grandmother ) myself I see how my daughter and her husband raise there 2 little red heads ,1 has a disability but he functions at his grade level, when the drs told my daughter he might be a little slower than most ,u would never know he has any disability by looking at him or talking to him. I'm very proud of my daughter and my son in law they are good parents..blessings to you and your's .

Hey Family - I got the real tingles and even a bit emotional watching this condensed version of your experiences in a stunning and superbly produced docco! Capturing such magic memories, learning so much about yourselves and as a family what you’re able to do and achieve a life many people dream of. I know we’re not privy to everything that happens in a family we all have moments. You guys sure help so many to see what’s possible! This was absolutely amazing - thank you for your incredible efforts putting this together it’s no mean feat. Well done 🙏🥰
I throughly enjoyed this, but I must say that I am so envious of your family’s closeness. Mom and Dad you must have started young like I did, you don’t look a day over 40. I’ve never had that kind of love and it’s kinda depressing. Kudos to raising those kids right!

New sub here. All I can say is I love this documentary. I have been a nomad for a long long time. I get what people are saying in the comments about off-grid living, they don't think that they are off-grid. They really are off-grid. They're just living their life the way they can and they're bringing their lifestyle to us to enjoy. So I'm very pleased with all of this the editing, the music, the still photography, the narrating part of it, and all that they have gone through to get to this point. We have no idea because we're not in their shoes how they live, but from what I can see they live organically, they respect the Earth they respect the animals and humans. Well done documentary bravo you have a new subscriber.

***When I first had chickens I went out to collect the eggs. As I’m cracking them into a bowl I thought something was wrong with them. I thought they weren’t good, not ok to eat. The yoke was a vibrant orange color that I had never seen before in the eggs I always purchased from the store. So I kept throwing them out. My husband had chickens growing up, I didn’t. So when I told him that I was throwing away all the chicken eggs because the yoke was a vibrant orange color, he laughed. He told me they are suppose to be that color. He explained the difference between store purchased eggs and our fresh chicken eggs from the back yard. There is a big difference in taste between fresh eggs straight from your own chickens then even the organic cage free eggs purchased from the store.***
Glad to watch your videos and the way you guys travel the world and living off grid in Canada. Ignore the jealous comments. I respect your lifestyle and wish you all the best and success in the future, you earned it and now deserve it, well done and thank you for sharing. Greetings from Germany
I’m curious to know if all your preparations of food and supplies were enough? I’m curious how you all found the isolation of the winter? Which lake were you on? Did you only catch the one fish? Would you have harvested a moose or a deer on the island if there had been one? Just curious about what you thought of the adventure and what your children thought? Did they last the entire winter with you? Did the boys find it difficult to be cabin bound for so much of the winter months and not able to do a lot? What sort of hobbies did you do and did you play games as a family? Will you be doing it again?🥰❤️🇨🇦🙏🏻🍁
We have a whole series of videos from our time at the island. Check it out on our channel and all of those questions are answered in the videos. Thanks for watching and have a wonderful day.
You guys have just made your family stronger. Your children will be different than others. Not afraid of work, self reliant. Fantastic job with the family. Im literally jealous.
god that woman can cook something beautiful! you guys should have a cookbook for sure!!!! My first time watching your content and I absolutely want this for my family! thank you so sincerely and humbly than you for allowing me into your home
I have got similar place 2 hrs from Elliot Lake. My advantage is Summer "road access" over old logging road. In the Winter 30 km on the Snowmobile to the hwy and two hrs in the truck to the civilization. Yes, this is my home. All compensated by 17$ a year taxes. Yes, for the last 10 years it's my home. Experience, memories ??? priceless.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful adventure on the island. Give that dog a Carabo. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Absolutely beautiful family with enthusiastic love for exploration, discovery and cooperation/union. Although I'm not one to be romanticizing such ventures in these conditions, certainly not in the Canadian boreal/outback or any other such similar regions, I nevertheless continue to learn what appears to be the obvious, this is grueling, exhausting and incredibly taxing in a very demanding and dangerous winter region and conditions. Much love and kudos allowing us a glimpse into your very unique journey! ❤
How fortunate you are to have this. It makes me nostalgic for our cabin in the woods, which my GSP also loved. I can smell the fresh air just watching this!
This is beautiful. I have also lived the Canadian dream, building a log house in Canada, where may husband and I ran a large animal veterinarian clinic west of Edmonton Alberta back in the 1980's when the temperatures often went down to -40's in the winters. We did not have all the toys and equipment etc, that this family obviously has, they have the money to do whatever they want. And the way they portray the outdoor lifestyle as romantic and beautiful, it is not always as glamorous as this. Of course they have a large family and a willingness to learn and explore which is important! Very nice filming, awesome!
This beautiful documentary of a family’s epic year was a gift of the algorithm. They seem to have embraced the cozy ways of true northerners. The filmography and tender family moments shared with the world are a precious wholesome thing to share. OMG that family cold plunge!! 🥶… how do you do that??! Nice music and voiceover too. Excellent job all around! Thank you for gifting this lovely video to the world 💙
Just discovered you and so impressed with your preparedness, and how the family works together! Looking forward to watching your adventures. Thank you for sharing!

What a family! That off grid is like a lodge in the woods on a late. Great job to all of you working together. Great video, thank you for bring us long.
Greetings from Prince Edward Island, that was one of these best outdoor videos I've ever seen. And I've seen many. From Shawn James, to Joe Robinet, Matthew Posa and many others. I'm 60 and live in a log home on the North Shore. Heat with wood, two greenhouses and fifteen raised beds. I'm not off grid but have 2.4k of solar and Surrette S600 batteries and and Outback inverter. I round it off with a Bluetti power station. I've tapped Birch trees, 100:1 ratio; darker more caramel flavour. I'm originally from Ontario and use to camp on Elephant Lake, near Harcourt and Dalhousie Lake in Lanark County. The editing alone must have been time consuming. I use to Ice fish near Cornwall, Ontario (Lancaster) and many fond memories. Well done!
This interlude with your family's experiences is breathtaking! It is the best possible scenario and it is magical seeing you and your family reaping the rewards of you all have built and spreading love to friends , family and others! and also protecting your dog and feeding the birds. Belive me, I'm from South of Brazil, near Argentina where snows and we have wooden stoves with the wind protector to dispel the smoke.Visit Gramado, RGS, Brazil.Bariloche Argentina is as grand as Otawa. Country and capital. Thank you for this captivating dream! God Bless!
Thoroughly enjoyed your detailed video on spending an entire winter off grid. I would say your excellent planning in preparation for this journey proved to be a huge success. I live in Alberta Canada and you have to be careful when you see something that says grass fed. You have to make sure it says grass fed and finished. Because technically a farmer can feed his cows on pastures and grass for a couple of months and then bulk it up and make it heavier with grains. My recommendation is to buy it directly from the farmer. Go see the people themselves and see how they do their job. Does that do it well and right are delighted to show you how it works. I get my veg from two suppliers, where I have personally been to their farms. I buy all my berries and fruit at the farmers market from a family who grow it all in BC but I have been to the property and seen it. Every two years I buy a beautiful cow grass fed and finished from the person I know really well. Butcher it vacuum, seal it and freeze it. Best beef in the world. I drive north to smoky lake to a lady and her husband who raise fantastic pigs. I buy one each year butcher it and curate. I also go to a Hutterite colony getting my eggs chickens, and if you were bits and pieces, nice people always treat me well and give you an amazing product. There is a lady west of me who harvest honey. She harvest a few different varieties of honey. And makes different products from it, which I also purchase and store up. I just need to find someone who can supply me with milk that hasn’t been messed with. I don’t know what it is. They do to the male care in Canada but when you have milk in a carton and after seven days, it still hasn’t gone off. They’re doing something to it. I originally grew up in Ireland where you find the best dairy products on planet earth. And I’m telling you here now after a few days, milk starts to turn sour. Irish people don’t drink milk more than a couple of days old. It’s kind of the way in France French people don’t eat bread more than 12 hours old. I’m not sure what they do to the bread in Canada either but the fact it can be a week old and there’s no mould on it says something. So yes, people should really start looking into their food and like your family should go out and find the best safest possible products. 90% of the food I eat, doesn’t come from supermarkets the vast majority of it comes locally granted there are some spices and stuff I can’t get locally however, there are some spice places around that will give you great products without being messed with. they do all sorts of things to food that sits in supermarkets so it has shelflife understandable, and makes it very convenient and profitable. But it’s not ideal for your health. If you think I’m wrong and don’t believe me take a vegetable that you like carrot tomato buy it from a local farmer directly that day, then pop into the supermarket and buy one of theirs and taste the two of them. I guarantee you’ll see the difference.
Thank you so much for your comment. We agree wholeheartedly with everything you said here. Mass production of food is never good. Now that we have a bit more time we are trying to get to know the growers personally. Thanks for all the good tips. Have a wonderful day.
Dang spinning flu toppers are brilliant and essential! You all are so hard working! Working JUST to live and eat, stay warm, stay healthy snd feed your fur baby is rewarding, surely! ❤

Just beautiful. Thank you for sharing your family with us.
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed!
So jealous of the life you have created with your family. Wish I was strong enough to have done this with my little family... God bless all of you!!!
me too, or rich enough.
Me too.
The Mom is amazing-rudimentary cooking off grid and it looks gourmet and delicious!
Thank you. We appreciate the support 👍🏻

Your place is beautifull, all nessesary comforts and idillyc setting.
Experience, memories ??? priceless.
What an amazing adventure. I envy your family
Oh my goodness. I can’t express, how much I enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing ❤

Thank you for sharing your wonderful adventure on the island. Give that dog a Carabo. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Thank you and and thanks for watching!
Thank you for your kind words, we appreciate you joining us on our journey.
What well trained children, dog and husband. Thank you for sharing your journey with us 🥰
Your problem is clear,,,,!

Well done!
Beautiful narration, we thank you for sharing your fantastic adventure with us. Lots of hugs to all of you!
Hugs back. Glad you enjoyed it!

Off the grid on the big island since 1990.
Catching the strings of Mom's hood will put an end to the giggles very quickly !
