    I remember taking my friend from Brazil (Carioca) to visit this place. She spoke in her Brazillian Portugese with a few locals. What she told me then was out of 10 words spoken, 8 are the same to Brazillian Portugese.
    We must remember this community survived since 500 years ago. Hence the change in their looks. So, ones should not question why they didn't look Europeans.
    The same for many Malays with Thai acenstery do have the same look too.

    This is very fascinating! Thank you so much for this video overlander. Out of curiosity this is an ancient song about a river (Rio Mondego) in the Centre/North of European Portugal. It is sung in old Portuguese with some local tones, the kind that only survived in Malacca and not in the language's birthplace. I wish I could visit Malacca one day, if you like the mixed Portuguese/Asian cultures, Macau would also be a good choice for you to visit..

    I lived in Malacca for quite a while in my late teen till late 20's near the Portugues Settlement, mixing with them and enjoying their company. They were truly Malaysian, excel in sports and enjoying beating the Portuguese U18 National Team in Field Hockey. Their food is a fusion and delicious but not that spicy. Thier soup and gravy is rather thick. Their bakery is simply out of this world. Their Seafood too but cheese is rather alien to them. There are some blonds with a truly Portuguese Beautiful Balanced feature. Fell with one of them but can't make it to the end for I went to the University and my parents moved to other states on retirement. Missed The Portuguese and her.

    Dutch and English were in Melaka very longer than the Portuguese, this were the first. Today we see almost no legacy of Dutch and English. The Portuguese already, we have the culinary, religion, names and why not say, the language. Even in the Malasian language, we have many words of Portuguese origin, as well as the Portuguese took some services of the Malasian language.

    • @TheSaltube
      @TheSaltube 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Jyunkai But, dear, you're wrong. The Portuguese came out of Malacca from 1641. There was no more any contact with Portugal, or other Portuguese colonies. England from 1826 until 1946, or maybe even today. So, proportionally, the largest contribution was the Portuguese.
