I remember watching this back in the day and thinking "This isn't Davy Crockett". Also I think the subject matter was a bit too adult for Disney of the 80's. But then again they also thought Pleasure Island in WDW was a good idea back then.
I live in the area of the "Davy Crockett Bridal Trail" that Crocket helped clear back in 1816. It's now known as Old Fort Rd. They cleared this road because of a tax that was being politicized to use the road at a crossing point and the DCBT came about to circumvent this tax.

He’s a pretty face but not a great actor. Completely lacking gravitas. This is the same actor who NBC insisted on for the A-Team and playedFace in the pilot. He was replaced by Dirk Benedict for the series.

This is the first time I have ever seen this, of coarse, I was working nights when it came on so I missed a lot of movies. A great movie.
My Cherokee ancestors fought in the Creek Indian war against the Red stick Creeks along side of David Crockett!
