You failed to report the basis for your own piece…the derivation of the word SLAVe. It was the Slavic people enslaved by the Muslims that rendered the term SLAVe.

Yes we do, from the bottom of our hearts. I feel a bit teary eyed, because brothers/sisters from another mother knows what DeSantis is doing is deeply hurtful and disrespectful. We are the first generation in 400 years that’s trying to right the wrongs in our history books, because my parents couldn’t speak on it, because they would’ve been lynched, because they grew up in the South prior to the 1960s.
Desantis done a job of creating a theocracy, who knew that Florida would be where everything would tear apart? Wasn't it only like a decade ago that Florida was like a purple state? So you know why not just you know mess up other aspects of History I mean heck. I mean if you were to bring religion to school, you might as well ignore the Constitution all.

When you take a job you get paid wages and sometimes "benefits". Most people today work for "wages" and then take the wages and pay for "benefits" (housing, food, clothing, education, etc..). At the end of the week most people are broke. Now lets look at a slave. They worked for "Benefits" not "wages". For their work they got free housing on multi million dollar property, free healthcare, free food, free clothing etc.. At the end of the week they too were broke. Today, most people want to be like slaves, they want all the benefits, but unlike a slave, they don't want to work for them.

It appears all of the US is on an "inclusivity" trend. Everything must be included. The good and the bad. Yes there is good and bad in everything. Is it worth it? It's interesting how recently while watching TH-cam videos about the partition of India, I discovered the division of one country into three. During my exploration, I also came across the plight of the so-called lower castes in India, particularly the Dalits. It's disheartening to learn about the oppression they have faced historically and continue to experience.

I’m 50 and am the 3rd generation in my dads lineage born free of slavery in the early 70s, I didn’t meet any slave ancestors but my parents did in the 1930s and 1940s…a lot of my white friends in the 1970s had parents that knew their Confederate or Union soldier grandparents, there wasn’t much political correctness but it was good to hear history from folks who were actually there or heard it from a actual slave or slave owner.

Recently when I was holidaying on my first cruise ship holidays I noticed modern day slavery exists in many forms. The staff working on the cruise are paid as low as 3 dollars per day, work 7 days a week for 12 to 14 hours with no holidays in their 10 month contract. Since they always sail in international water no labour laws of any countries apply to them. You will find staff from countries which has their own currency very weak against the dollar. This is modern day slavery.

(eg local wars) In other societies the reverse was true. Chattel slavery was common in Africa and Europe from antiquity, it was the transportation aspect of the transatlantic slave trade that disturbs modern sensibilities. You maybe right that transported slaves are now a minority but you are wrong to think slavery has stopped in Africa and other countries. Slaves are today being bought and sold in N Africa. I worked in Saudi in the 1980s as was very close to a expat N.African family. They, in common with many others, had a slave servant, though he was well treated, but in no sense was he free. I don't try and create narratives and only speak from my own experience.

Most slavery was codified by laws and the idea that codification only started with European traders is risible.

Social ostracisation, oppression, classism, restrictions, positive & negative discriminations,etc. have existed in Indian society. At the same time, there was flexibility, upward-downward mobilities,etc. have also existed. Just like in any other huge and developed pastoral society. That is why in last centuries, people of India and social reformers, have been working to eradicate these problems. But these are pan-India/Indian Subcontinent problems & issues. These little to no comparison with the history of US, racism there, slavery, ethnic cleansings of Native Americans,etc. problems. As the history and historio-sociological development of both US and India are totally different and poles apart. So no comparison can be made between these two countries and their histories.

A few year ago I visited my brother in Houston, TX - he had two High School children. I happened to go to one of my nephew's room and saw a H.S. Geography book. I perused it and came to a world map of human migration. The map showed arrows of human migration. The arrows from Africa to America was labelled: Africans migrated to America to work in Agriculture. I could not believe I was actually reading this and being taught to H.S. Students in the Houston Public School.
When I was in high school in the 80's world history was limited to America and Europe. Slavery was never spoken about.
