Watching steady flames during fire ban season in South Oz sends a chill down my spine, which is actually a relief from the ballbags of sweat that is an Aussie Christmas. Beer and prawns to all. Merry Christmas AvE
BC Canada Wildlands firefighter here. Spent a few summer workin with the Aussies, begging for the phone call to come to the land down under to help them!
Thanks for stoking up the old stove for us uncle bumble as it does warm the soul this very evening! Just the tip and only for a min but sometimes thats all it takes... thanks for the years of mishap and adventure and I hope this festive season finds you well sir.
@@joebob4943I thought this was a heartwarming story about "the good ol' days." I'd play this for my kids and grammy, ey? AvE keeping us warm by the fire, don't cha know?
"Junkie Christmas" was really touching. I never read this book, that was something new to me. Thank you, Chris, for entertaining us for many years. You're like Bob Ross-figure for me. *Merry Christmas to you and your family! *
Hey AVE. I'm a CNC programmer from the great state of NJ. I don't know if you remember a few years back you uploaded a reading on Christmas of One William S. Burrow's a junkie Christmas. Do you think you could reupload that video. I've searched for it but it's nowhere to be found. I fingered it's probably pretty close too your confused and it would do pretty well for the confused. Love your vijeho buddy. Peace
He could narrate an owners manual for a toaster and I would still sit transfixed... Merry Christmas y'all from a trailer park somewhere in the Carolina's.
My great grandfather and his brother came out from Ontario to Northeast Saskatchewan in 1911-1912 to homestead and break the bush for farmland. It’s crazy to me that both of them fought in the First World War only a few years later, lucky they both survived. They seem like a different breed of human to me.
Seasons felicitations to you and your family. Thank you for sharing your convoluted but insightful observations thus guiding our confused minds to more productive endeavours than incinerating bacon. Keep your stick on the ice. Best wishes to Canada from England
Spinning yarns and recitations was what you did in those times before radio. If you could not sing or play an instrument you had to have a way to contribute. My father was from a poor family , his recitations were amazing. Will never forget his rendition of “ Face on the bar room floor “ . Robert Service. Bard of the NORTH.
@@mattwoodford5442 Matt, memories are priceless, even more reason to ensure we don't allow the wrong ones in. Your dad sounds like a chap I would give a beer to hear a tale. Best to you.
Good evening from the south Okanagan, thanks for the story. My grand parents came to southern western Saskatchewan and south eastern Alberta before WWI, so roughly that time frame. My late father was born in a sod house there and he lived long enough to go from horse and buggy to watching someone land on the moon. They were tough people to survive that environment in those conditions. All the best to you all, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
We had a similar breed down here in the antipodes. Around the same time your story was set, one of our local delinquent gentlemen was libeled by a colonial newspaper. He sued, and the judge found in his favour. Such was the value of his reputation, the magistrate awarded him a ha penny in damages.
@ryelor123 - if that’s not sarcasm…then what you just said is hands down one of the dumbest takes I’ve ever seen on the internet. And I spend waaay too much time on the interwebs. Jesus.
Ope, quite the opposite - without purpose society dies - Remember the Wester/US Haydays of the 60/70 when space exploration was the societal goal - purpose... War serves the few.....
This story reminds me of my Mother in Law, who is 95 years old, she tells her great grandchildren and great great grandchildren stories of coming across the plains in the covered wagons and always having to fight off constant Indian attacks, Much like Santa Clauses it’s not till they’re older do they realize it’s just a yarn.
Can you totally remind me of all of Vietnam vets that I grew up around. And then also everybody that I work with in the machine shop that was started by one of them. XYZ needs love baby 😁 💯 not playing into the algorithm
So I'm sitting here in bed with my wife as the sun rises watching this video with the audio muted, reading the subtitles. And I realize I'm going to have to watch the video again with the audio on, because AVE's voice is where things happen.
Ah, the good ole days! I remember back when I could travel the world on my remittance check... from the once great state of Cali's Office of Unemployment Benefits.
Well I feel better. I know you all do too. It’s 02:15 on the right side of the map. The Alberta Clipper is moving itself through western New York and it’s really quite pleasant. A fine way to start a Saturday really..
God damn. I have studied english language in school for more than a decade. And used it professionally a couple more decades. Yet you can make a video I can not understand what the hell you're talking about. Good work sir :D
Sippin' a Friday night cocktail, puttering about the shop, warmed by spruce and Douglas fir flaming away in the old Fisher mama bear. And here's old Bumblefuck with some history. Time to sit and listen. And sip.
Is there a Jimmy Buffett reference in this...."Remittance Man", one of his best songs, never played at his concerts filled with middle-aged miscreants. If so that would make my day. Regardless, I proudly display your stickers in my shop and on my work trailer.
Dam! much different from myself grown up as a man. My family kept be close and beat me! Think I should give my old papa a call and ask for backpay on all the remittance I missed out on?!
Anytime logs are burning AvE goes philosopher/historian. I bet theres some Canadian whisky off camera somewhere, and even with out the fire he'd feel warm and fuzzy
Strange hearing a Canadian reference the Boer war, but not all that surprising since you do know a few words of my language. I believe it was in your camera dolly video that you used some of our more "colorful" words. 😉 Merry Christmas!
AvE, Merry Christmas to you and your family and a heartfelt thank you for all the entertainment you've provided us over the years.

It’s wild to thank that it’s the 100 year anniversary of discovering the universe beyond the Milky Way.
it is 101 years since the Wright brother's first flight.
Shooosh you may trigger the flearthers.
121 years since the Wright Brothers first slipped the surly bonds of Earth

But they're essential for humanity's survival. Without them, we stagnate, become miserable, and take out our aggression on each other at home.
