I know it's meant to be a joke, but just in case someone believes this... It was named minuteman in honor of the militia 13 colonies (what would become the US). They were called minutemen because they have to be ready in a minute. They were simply regular folks armed with muskets.

@@slimshakey5494 I was kidding with you, this is how I described the situation in another post: US is just showing off that their rotting Minuteman III still works and delayed upgrade to 2030 because unlike Russia no one is breathing on their necks. The last test failed or was delayed (lookup I forgot) so we can't call it a 100% success rate. MAD, that protected us for so long, have lost balance because NATO got so close to Russia and can place missile defence systems right on their border. Russia had to upgrade their ICBMs.

Mach 23? These minute men 3 missiles are old tbh. Unless they replace them every so often. Otherwise, they are 50 years old probably.

They were first fielded in 1970, but none of the 450 fielded are more than 14 years old, with rolling updates and maintenance continuing. Mach 23. It's an ICBM. How else are you going to strike a target 6000 miles away in under 30 minutes? These things leave earth's atmosphere (but not with enough speed for escape velocity).

Mach23 is classified as "High Hypersonic". "Hypersonic" is between Mach 5 and Mach 10. ICBMs are High Hypersonic due to the distances they travel and that they leave the earth's atmosphere (where that max speed tops out .. Mach 23 inside the atmosphere has huge problems with heating and thermal control.
So technically the answer to your question is "yes", Mach 23 is hypersonic. However, not in the same category as a "hypersonic missile", which tops out at Mach 10.
