    I did my first wingsuit jump in 1999 at World Free Fall Convention. It was far more dangerous back then. Only a few people had survived it at the time. I had about 5 minutes of training. Nobody knew how to do it yet. You pretty much got to figure it all out on your own. It made for some exciting times. If you think the training and gear is expensive, just wait until you start hiring helicopters!

      Didn't work. He fell to his death and left a hole in the ground. Maybe we shouldn't credit the wingsuit to him😂

    I went skydiving for the first time in my life today. It was the most otherworldly experience I've had, the instructor let me feel free and 'in charge of the whole process' by giving me control of the direction the parachute takes. The view I could see through my steamy protective glasses was breathtaking, those autumnal colors, such as red trees, pale yellow hills, short green grass mowed especially for skydivers to land on, were undescribable. The process of falling didn't last much time, but I appreciated every second of being in the air, soaking up energy from the surrounding nature. I definitely am going to do extreme sports more often, this is what gives life sense.

    this video was helpful for sure. I didn't know how wingsuiters started out and jumping off a cliff seemed a little risky for a first timer lol. Now it makes more sense. You need to learn how to sky dive first and then dabble with the wingsuit. I'd like to see more novice wingsuit jumps from planes and then maybe a bridge. I've been watching videos of them flying along side cliffs and through donut rock formations and under bridges but these guys have to be super experienced I'm guess.

    What feels different about wingsuiting vs general sky diving? More control of the direction you're able to fly?

    • @ConnerJohn
      @ConnerJohn 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly. With regular skydiving there are jumps called "tracking" or "angle" in which you fly a horizontal pattern. But the control and jump time are much smaller. With a wingsuit you get a much more controlled fall rate which means a longer jump, more control of direction, and it gives a stronger "I'm flying" feeling

      @@ConnerPeterson you are welcome mate, one question if you dont mind- in your opinion is better to buy own gear as soon as you get A licence ( if you have money for that) or keep renting gear and learn how to pack yourself after 200 skydives when person will start flying a wingsuit with own full rig( just rent wingsuit)? When i asked one dz over the phone they adviced me to rent gear for 200 jumps and then buy own- as this way i will get 200 skydives quicker than waiting and saving for own one and then start jumping. ( if whether will be goo this year). They said it will be cheaper in longer run to rent and in future buy final canopy size( smaller than the ones beginners use) instead of buying and reselling after certain amount of jumps. Do you mind sharing your opinion?

    • @ConnerPeterson
      @ConnerPeterson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ijumpandfly So I bought my own rig at about 40 jumps and Im still jumping the same container/reserve. I have only downsized once (From a pulse 190 to a pilot 170).
      Renting gear each jump is going to be way more expensive in the long run. I would advise getting a used rig that has room to downsize.
      Skydiving gear holds its value pretty well and you can always find good deals on FB groups.
      So what I think you should do, Buy a rig at around 50 jumps with a canopy that has you at around a 1:1 wing loading but with a container that has room to downsize.
      Once you decide to wingsuit you will have a container that can fit a wingsuit friendly canopy (I love my pilot).
      Renting gear each jump is not cost effective. Pay $28 per jump instead of $50+ and find a great deal that will hold its value if you ever decide to sell.

      @@ConnerPeterson thank you very much for opinion about rig/ container and canopy- i just watched few videos about canopies and it seems its not as they said over the phone - so in reality you dont change gear as often as they said. Few other jumpers also bought their full kit at about 50th jump. I dont live in place where you can jump all year round so learning how to pack early also will give more experience.

    No, my first question to wingsuiters is what about crosswinds and gusts. I've seen people cutting through trees, mountains, and tight spaces..
    A simple crosswind will end you so quickly. Do they train you on how to maneuver or handle situations like this?
    I know nothing about it, but that's the first thing that comes to mind lol.

    • @ConnerPeterson
      @ConnerPeterson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I totally understand. People often confuse all wingsuit jumps with the wingsuit base jumpers. Wingsuiting from a plane has much more room for error and I never intend on BASE jumping at all. So if i get some weird winds the suit usually cuts right through it and I deploy my parachute at about 5500 ft so I never have the risk of striking anything while flying (Except other people or the plane)

    • @ConnerJohn

    Stupid question so the point of the wing suit is to slow down your fall and give you more flight time right? I have never been skydiving and not really sure why you were so nervous after so many jumps I guess what I mean is what is so intimidating about the suit

    Just a question: a few years ago, wingsuit pilots said no one should try unless they'd had 1.000 free falls. Now it's down to 200. What's next? Why not say, 100 ?

    • @ConnerJohn

      Personally, I think it should come down to how many tracking/angle jumps you have. If it were me, it would be a minimum of 200 jumps and 50 tracking/angles. So that way the person already has knowledge on planning/flying a pattern.
