Adam, to answer your question about players taking oxygen during the game.....they do, especially in Denver because the Broncos stadium is so high in the mountains. The air is much thinner up there.

  • @israelmartinez9473

Yes they take air. Broncos especially. The city of Denver is a mile above sea level so the air is thin.

Idk if anyone mentioned it but the offense and defense are allowed one player with a radio in their helmet to hear play calls from the coaches. This is the qb and normally a linebacker on defense.

  • @mccoybo

On that first clip. Lots of call outs are code from qb or others. Obama could be outside (O). Like outside run. Dusty could be at the defensive back. Or (db)
When i played. We did Rip and saLLy. For right and left and used 31 32 and 33 for the running gaps(spaces between the lineman. 1 being directly next to the center. 2 being next to the guard. And 3 being next to the tackle. On the rip or sally side. Always on their outside gap not inside.)

Its the QB calling out the center linebacker and it tells who center of the defense. It helps the lineman to know who to block and where to slide protection. So QB says Mic followed play the players number he is calling like mic 52. The Center offence line in some teams call the mic out other teams the QB does it.

They huddle first to communicate the play, but once the QB sees how the defense is lined up, there are short codewords that let the skill players know how to adjust. Or he can change the play altogether with a little more jargon. Often he'll call 'kill' a number of times that corresponds to a couple back pocket plays, like 1 kill means this play, 2 kills means this, etc. When he yells mike 4-2 he's saying defender number 42 deserves extra attention.

2:19 Baker Mayfield, the player yelling "the phrase", was making it seem like he was asking what the play call was, making the defense think they had a break for a second, but after the quarterback says hut or hike, the play is live. So the center, the person who snaps the ball to the quarterback, can do whatever he wants with it, so instead of hiking it to Baker Mayfield, the quarterback, he snapped it to someone else.

Just to give some background info, the clip of Philip Rivers (The Chargers Quarterback), that was talking about someone talking through his helmet. Most, if not all QBs have a one way speaker device in their helmet so coaches on the sideline can make playcalling easier. They are usually marked by a green dot sticker so they know who has the helmet.

The air thing was probably because he was in Denver, a city with a VERY high elevation, and there is a genetic desease which is more commun in African-Americans called cicle cell anemia, which makes it particularly hard to exercise in high elevations. The air was probably just to help him should he have cicle cell. There was once an nfl player who couldn't play in dever his cicle cell was so bad. The desease effects the blood cells, and isn't super commun, but isn't rare among African Americans.

2:22 so, the offense knows when the ball is going to be snapped, but the offense doesnt. The QB says Hut huuuut to try to get the defense to jump offsides. Sometimes the QB will yell things to change the play, like when Jared Goff was screaming "Tupac" and "obama". Its code. The offense knows what it means, but the defense doesnt. Baker Mayfield called out "Mike 4-2" signaling to the offense that the Middle Linebacker is number 42 in that play. But in that case, it was just an act because it was a trick play.

All the screaming is trying to make adjustments to the other side with 80,000 fans screaming. It's called an audible and it's usually called when the quarterback knows the play previously called won't work against the defensive formation. Also, you'll hear something like " Mike 42" in which he is calling out a specific player to watch or that the play is based on exploiting or reading what he does, or a Mike. Hope this helps, but it's the more complicated side of football. Oh and by the way, on the specific play you were talking about, there is something that a quarterback says to let his team know when to start. It's called a cadence, and it's hard to talk with a mouth piece. He was faking to try to get the other team to jump early. Pretty sure he was saying "white 80, white 80, set hut hut"
