So, in High school, I played Left Guard on Offense and Middle Linebacker on Defense, but on the rarest of occasions I would line up at the Tight End position when the starter was out or needed a break. During a play where I was at the Tight End position, I went on a simple five and in pattern across the middle. I.E. I went forwards five yards than cut a turn towards the center of the field. While the pass never went my way, one of the other teams players took an opportunity to run as fast and as hard as they could through the side of my face mask, giving me a whiplash concussion, *my head was whipped side to side with such force it was like getting punched by a heavyweight prize fighter.* I wasn't knocked out, but I still recall watching my mouthpiece spin slowly through the air as I wobbled on rubber legs for a bit, sat out for a couple of series on both sides of the ball than went back in later, and finished up the game. The moral of the story is that yes, it was a little bit of a cheep shot on the other guys part, but it's also on me to have been more aware of my surroundings combined with a big dash of *Rub some dirt on it and get back in there.* nature of the game, if you go across the middle, your going to get hit, that's just how it is.
Yeah I took a helmet to helmet in college I don’t remember the hit before the hit during the hit just remember waking up in an ambulance 15 mins later I was out of it
Played hockey most of my life. The good part about being knocked out is you don’t know you’re knocked out. In all seriousness though, I had a concussion once that had symptoms for nearly two months after. It sucks.
5:54 The reason the defensive lineman is taunting the quarterback is because the QB is taking out the lineman's knees (from out of his field of vision). That's a dirty block. The QB could have wrecked that guy's career.
Between 7 years of youth/high school football, the worst hits I took were: 1. being upended and landing helmet-first. Knocked out cold, needed smelling salts 2. I once got crushed by a legal blindside block on a punt return, talk about getting the wind knocked out of you. Lots of other contact and injuries, but not from hits like these.
Played football for 12 years roughly 17 seasons from youth to arena football all the way through high school. My career ended with 2nd ACL tear, but I had my good share of concussions (7) throughout as a wide receiver my most recent and worst one was freshman year of high school was on kickoff return and a 6 ft 2 (me 5 ft 7) came clean unblocked and launched me 5-10 yards back and knocked me unconscious for about 5 minutes.
My son has played since he was 4 years old, 15 now and playing high school. He plays flag football during the spring to stay conditioned which doesn’t allow tackling and in a flag game broke his wrist breaking up a pass.
I was a center in high school and a helmet to helmet is brutal u see a white flash and then a buzzing and as the buzzing slowly goes away a headache comes right along. I had three concussions so I decided not to go the college route.
You should react to Jeff Gordon's biggest wrecks of his career. I know he was one of nascars all time bests but he took some big hits through the years. And I find it funny how many times you heard his name in your nascar wreck reactions lol
Tis a great bit o fun. I played til my orthopedic doc told me: "If you want to be able to walk when you get older, stop now!" Broke the tip off my femur, tore acl, mcl sprained the synovial capsule in my knee and a few other bits there in. Only got my clock cleaned once, it was my fault. Coach ALWAYS said if you get through the line untouched, someone is coming from the side to hit you, so turn and brace. I did not and little birdies were flying around! I played NT, OT and some special teams.
the clip at 8:47, the guy going in for the hit gave up a stupid Late Hit penalty. The guy was still half way across the field when the whistles to stop the play start sounding (the players forward momentum stopped, causing the play to end.) Dude just continues running at full speed and cleans the guy out.
to your question in the previous video, number 83 in the third clip wasn’t able to play after that hit. heartbreaking and frustrating too, he was on his way to a legendary career as a wide receiver
The guy hit in the thumbnail is Ricardo Lockette, it also happened to be the last play of his professional career as he was forced to medically retire. A shame, he was the best gunner i've ever seen on special teams.
I played Quarterback in highschool and threw a slant across the middle of the field, it was tipped and intercepted, I turned and started running up field to try and cut him off and took a blind side hit from a linebacker to the head. Good block but put me out for a minute, ended up having a concussion too
I think you would enjoy the "NFL announcers with 0 context (sus/funny moments)" video based off of your reaction to the "Goodwin got unloaded upon" part 😂
We was taught to put the top of helmet just above the face mask into the opponents chin. This was before padded and hardened chin straps. I’ve been knocked out as well as knocked others out with it. I have a huge scar on my face from it. It’s why I wear a big beard to cover it up
I played 6 years of American youth football 🏈 and was a line backer and nose guard and right guard...... when I was a line backer I would drill players into the ground.
People like to say "football used to be real football" but football used to really kill players until the good rules came into effect. Especially with college, the nfl has always been rough and tough.
What up Adam I’m a new subscriber and I got a couple video ideas you could react to you could look up Jason Williams highlights aka “white chocolate” basketball video his passes are incredible and you could also do some nascar reactions like closest finishes or biggest wreaks I find those enjoying!! Thanks dude for all the laughs 🙌🏻
At 5:49, the reason #99 seems to be taunting is because of where the Dolphins player hit him on the block- his knees. His career could have been seriously impacted. Does it make his taunting ok? Not in the slightest, but it does explain why he did it.
5:54 thats a no go in American football, blindside cut blocks like that usually starts fights. You can say the guy making the block got hit with karma..
its a touchdown when the ball carrier or receiver catches or takes possession of the ball and enters the end zone , while still having it ball in hand and doesn't lose it hitting the ground, if he does.
Ive dished out a hit like that to a quarterback once u celebrate and enjoy every second but if their is an injury ur the first one making sure their ok
Americans love this (and I'm one of 'em). It's sick. They actually used to have a weekly show of "this week's brutal hits" (or something like that). They were forced to take it off the air.
Try these hits with no padding or helmets.... Highschool yard football ... I remember one guy he was the back up QB and we rolled him out.... Tackled and rolled over top... He ended up having major concussion from smacking his head against the ground and splitting it open.... Our WR got a back injury and was out out for good.... I mean we played mean and full out no pads... I always thought this shit was normal... And I'm Canadian haha
To give you an idea of how hard they hit each other, the linemen who weigh between 270-350 pound hit each other with the same force as driving a pickup truck into a brick wall at 35 MPH and they are only 2 feet away from each other when before hitting each other do this over a thousand times a season. Now imagine how hard the other players who weigh between 170-240 pounds running down the field full speed and hitting each other.
I played hockey growing up and the helmet to helmet hits are the worst. I suffered a concussion from a hit like that once in high school. I can tell you without a doubt that it hurts like hell... for days after too. I was out for a week because of the hit. Still one of the worst I took in my career but it's part of the game and something you should always expect in contact sports.
damn- it started so fast you could not even breatheeeeeeeeee = OMG it is truly a miracle that there are not more really serious injuries- Everything going in different directions that it was not intented to go in ! dsmn-
These guys have been playing and getting hit since they were in elementary school. In general they know how to take a hit unless it takes a weird angle.
Block away from the ball is legal. This is why coaches tell you to keep your head on swivel and play till the whistle blows. You're gonna get blown up if you don't
Looks more like a game of tackling the opposition, they jumping and flying like missile head first into players rather than trying to snatch the ball from players hand😵💫😵💫
I was returning a kick one time and saw a hole so big I thought I was on my way to reach pay dirt....little did I know in all of my excitement my vision narrowed on the gap. And next thing I knew my ear pads popped out of my helmet mouth guard flew out of my mouth and I'm trying to pick myself up from the grass wondering where the fuck the guy that rocked me came from as collectedy pads and mouth guard
In American Football, a touchdown constitutes the ball, while in positive control of a player, breaks the plane of the goal line. It is based off the ball and not the runner. Just like how in Soccer has to cross the goal plane.
i’ve taken hits like these before, i play high school ball and my freshman year on varsity my small ass got laid out by a senior safety, i don’t know how i’m still standing
Context to why #99 was taunting the QB is because the QB was attempting a cut block when the DL wasn't looking and it was right to his knee. This is a very dangerous play that has been made illegal. Guys get their knees all tore up, especially when their cleats are still in the ground.
It is sad how easy it is to pick out the concussion on almost every hit... The hands/arms going into a 'protective pose' to prevent your head from hitting the ground as you fall forward is a tell-tale nervous system response of a concussion.
My 17 year old son got hit like this last week in his high school game. It was a HARD hit. Guy came from the side and leveled him. After the game we went home and he did his math homework. Anybody who has ever played football can tell you if you gonna play give it all you got or don't even suit up.
Look up Mob Ball happens once a year on the Scottish English border and is absolutely wild Essentially the goal is for your team to get the ball to the Other side of town and visa versa only rule is legit don’t kill anyone
"How long are these guy's careers?" - Well... there's peewee football starting at age 9. Then moving into Junior High School and High School Football until 18ish years old, then 3ish years of College. Then.... then... if they're very "lucky" and are good enough and have not sustained any career ending injuries, they can be drafted to play Pro. The average career is 3.3 years, but that skyrockets up to 11.7 years if they make a pro bowl at any point during their career.
An interesting fact: In 1905 President Theodore Roosevelt invited several college football coaches to the White House and told them that if they didn't clean up the sport, he would ban it. You see too many football players were getting crippled, disfigured or even killed. They had no protective gear at all. The players were vicious with fighting; gouging out eyes; biting, also no one wanted to referee.
Hey Adam! Not sure if you know, but passes across the middle of the field are called “hospital” or “morgue” passes… because that’s where you end up when you catch them! Have a good one!
I was center (guy who holds the ball before every play) and both my knees are gone, right ankle's gone, collar bone is destroyed, nerve damage in my shoulder, my fingers can bend backwards now, my neck pops if I look to the side too fast, and more! Great sport if you want ti die in your 20"s lol
The quick one you didn't comment on from the Bills. Everrett. He actually got paralyzed on that play. Crazy sport but we love it. Not sure what that says.
Used to play high school football played defense end and x out receiver, being on defense playing the end. I have had my fair share of hits and hitting and I can tell you that it is an absolute rush. Playing the x out and trying to catch the ball when being thrown to you personally I would try to put myself in jumping positions to get hit in the air only for the fact of the picture, thought it was even better when my helmet came flying off. Got more pictures of me playing defense than offense, heck how I played me d end position I got national ranked in top 5 for sacks and unfortunately ended 3 quarterbacks football careers As far as today is standing and those hits I have alot of memory problems. And forgetting almost instantly what is told to me
Theis is why they pay WR's what they do. There are 2 types of defensive backs that play the game. Assassins and thieves. (Ed Reed was both which made him incredible) Assassins are focused on planting his shoulder in the upper part of the rib cage just under the arm pit. Chances are the WR won't extend his arms for the rest of the game. Thieves know how to position themselves to steal the ball while the Assassin destroys the receiver. There is strategy in the game. A lot of it is how to put your people in the best spots so this doesn't happen to them. Your really don't want to test how much pain your players can eat each week. Save that for the playoffs.
At 00:56 that was Seahawks Ricardo Lockette and his his injury was career ending. His injury was so severe that if anyone tried to pick him up other then the way a professional medical personnel would of HE SOULD OF DIED. This is in no way an exaggeration he would of died right then and there.
Those helmet-to-helmet hits were not specifically illegal when most of this footage was shot, although the officials could call "unnecessary roughness" if they thought it was deliberate. But now they're specifically illegal even if inadvertent. You also can't lead with your helmet into any part of the opponent's body. And if you're sacking the quarterback, you can't fall on him with your whole weight. A long long time ago (like 100 years), yes, to score a touchdown you had to get into the end zone with the ball and then literally touch it to the ground. Things have been made much easier since then. All you have to do is momentarily break the plane of the goal line with any part of the ball while you have control of it. Or even touch the ball to one of those blaze-orange foam pylons sticking up from the front corners of the end zone.
They are dancing after a hit partially because there used to be an awards system for players who take out opposing players. This bounty system is now illegal but used to be a pretty common reward system amongst the teams. Guys used to get paid to hurt the opponent. Lol
Nose of the ball have to cross the white line (leading edge) of the end zone while in possession. If the ball oscillates in the hands before it crosses (looses possession)it is not a touchdown
No one dies and these guys play this game for years, they are big and strong and though you see them laying still sometimes they all get up, there are some injuries some head problems but its rare and they come back in the next game, but now you can not hit with your helmet above the shoulder, taunt a player or hit them out side the side lines. As long as the ball crosses the line then its a touch even if the player does not.

To be completely honest, I've seen much worse ice hockey hits.
Right, you cannot hit people with the helmet. That's targeting and leads to an ejection and penalty. But it still happens.
So, in High school, I played Left Guard on Offense and Middle Linebacker on Defense, but on the rarest of occasions I would line up at the Tight End position when the starter was out or needed a break. Made me read all that just to say one time you got hit in football lmao
I was at that game at 10:17. will never forget hearing the sound of that hit over one of the loudest crowds I’ve ever been in
5:24 - The ball has to break the plane of the end zone while you have control of it for it to be a touchdown.
Played hockey most of my life. The good part about being knocked out is you don’t know you’re knocked out. In all seriousness though, I had a concussion once that had symptoms for nearly two months after. It sucks.
Just so you know, that hit at 3:25 permanently scrambled Antonio Brown’s brain. Ever since then he’s been batshit crazy.
Well.....he was a little off before that but after yes he definitely wants bonkers.
So true even more so now
@@krkhns no it wasn’t lmao Antonio brown got hit by burfict in 2016 and shazier got injured in 2017 on Monday night football.
Finally the NFL is back Thank you
5:54 The reason the defensive lineman is taunting the quarterback is because the QB is taking out the lineman's knees (from out of his field of vision). That's a dirty block. The QB could have wrecked that guy's career.
Big guys especially hate that. They have so much strain on their legs as it is just moving their own bodies around.
as former d linemen i can agree. i hate fuckers who couldnt block so they woyld chop block you like that

Jesus... 7 concussions? I am surprised you could type that all out lol
6:50 Kevin Everett wasn't knocked out, he was paralyzed. Despite diagnoses he _was_ able to very gingerly walk again several years later.
My son has played since he was 4 years old, 15 now and playing high school. He plays flag football during the spring to stay conditioned which doesn’t allow tackling and in a flag game broke his wrist breaking up a pass.

i took a big hit at practice last year. i had a headache for like an hour and my chest hurt real bad. i sure felt the hit the day after as well
Love your commentary, for the videos, we need follow up of the injuries!
When i played i was the usually dishing these kind of hits out but in return I've got my bell rung a few times as well.

My sentiments exactly. Adam, I love everything about you ❤
That’s why there are so many players on an NFL team, because so many first string players get injured. It’s a brutal sport. And fans can’t get enough.
well i’ve had one of these in lacrosse about a year ago but i don’t remember anything from that day
The guy hit in the thumbnail is Ricardo Lockette, it also happened to be the last play of his professional career as he was forced to medically retire. A shame, he was the best gunner i've ever seen on special teams.
Taking the receiver 😢 head off is no long legal. There was a time where that would make a highlight reel on ESPN.
I played Quarterback in highschool and threw a slant across the middle of the field, it was tipped and intercepted, I turned and started running up field to try and cut him off and took a blind side hit from a linebacker to the head. Block away from the ball is legal. This is why coaches tell you to keep your head on swivel and play till the whistle blows. You're gonna get blown up if you don't

Guy blocked low around the knees and knocked himself out. The reason he was being taunted was because his block was considered extremely dirty.

There are multiple career ending concussions in the NFL.

As far as today is standing and those hits I have alot of memory problems. And forgetting almost instantly what is told to me
And would do it again if I could.
You should react to nascar angry radio it’s crazy
As someone who plays lacrosse, which is similar in some ways, helmet to helmet is the absolute worst
I got hit so hard in practice that I was coughing up blood for like 5 minutes
At 00:56 that was Seahawks Ricardo Lockette and his his injury was career ending. His injury was so severe that if anyone tried to pick him up other then the way a professional medical personnel would of HE SOULD OF DIED. This is in no way an exaggeration he would of died right then and there.

Who else remembers Austin Collie? I remember him because it seemed like he was constantly getting murdered
You should react to Cale Makar highlights. He is the best defenseman in the NHL.
He's on the move
Not for long 😂
you need to react to Trevor Zegras highlights (NHL)
Lol
Most of them are like....man down lets all jump over him and loose the ball in the mess🤯
Hey Adam check out the video of Alex ovenchicken playing soccer(football) its awesome lol.
