    I used a Speed Graphic with a 9cm 6.8 Schneider Angulon lens when I was a press photographer in 1962.. The focal plane / between lens shutter choice was very useful.

      :-). My fav part of Finnishness was when I was at Monza - I believe 2008 or 2009 - with Linus Thorvalds, and Kimi starting at the pole position. And we were about 50 m from the start line :-)

    I delayed watching this video until I had made a cup of tea and I'm glad I did. Your photos are beautiful and evoke strong emotion in me when I see them -- mostly a feeling of gratitude that I'm sitting here with a hot cup of tea while watching you out in the freezing near-night. I love how you stationed yourself at an intersection to wait for pedestrians and when I saw the image of your snow-covered Graphlex I said to myself, "This fellow is a real photographer of a style to which the rest of us can merely aspire."
    Thanks for a great video. I rate it 11 out of 10. 😉

    Thanks again. Good stuff, the ones in the middle of the street were by far the best in my opinion. Lots of white and then some darker shades. Shooting a great snow storm photo is not as easy it looks even here in Finland, because the density of the storm comes and goes. You have to hit the exact sweet spot. What do you say if we some day make a video or two together? It's only about 1,5-2 hours between Tampere and Helsinki.

    Some beautiful images here, and surprisingly not many snow images that I've seen that were taken whilst it was snowing, so these do add something special to the mix.
    Seeing you using individual DDS I did wonder if you'd considered using a Grafloc back? When out and about with my MPP MkVIII Rangefinder, many years ago now, I would take two with me as a) each took 6 sheets of film, so took up far less space than 6x DDS, and b) changing each sheet of film was much faster. The only problem I can see with this photo shoot would be you would need to know and in what sequence you'd loaded the Grafloc.
    I'm sure that you will have used a Grafloc, but for those who aren't familar with them, each sheet of film has its exposure number imprinted from 1 to 6 during exposure, so as long as a record is kept of each exposure, the actual negative can never be confused with another.

    • @ShootOnFilm
      @ShootOnFilm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree using a Graflox would often be much easier. But, as you said, if you have a mix of different films with you, individual holders are simpler. Also, changing a new holder under a spring loaded back takes literally two seconds. :-)

      Take some plastic bags with you. And when you get the camera home allow it to warm up slowly - to avoid condensation inside the body and inside the lens.

    I like to describe the Graflex brand as the historical camera. Most people in the world have looked at a picture taken with one of them, either a RB or a Graphic. I love mine btw.

    No reason to be afraid for your Graflex cameras in snow or sleet, or even rain as long as it's not an absolute downpour (get it wet enough and the film will suffer). For the same reason, I'm not afraid for my RB67 in weather -- no electronics, and all the mechanical parts are inside the body, closed up in a way that would almost need to be immersed to get wet (short of just being left out in the rain for hours).
    As you say, those cameras were made to be used, with an expectation that they'll be used under whatever conditions are present. And even though some of them might be approaching a century of age, they made so many that parts can still be found if something fails -- not as easily as would have been the case, say, fifty years ago, but they're out there.

    • @ShootOnFilm
      @ShootOnFilm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well said. These old cameras were meant to be used in challenging conditions -- and they were also built so that one can fix them if needed. Unlike many modern gadgets that are unfixable.

    • @SilntObsvr
      @SilntObsvr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShootOnFilm I just got an Autographic Vest Pocket Kodak -- the second version of the very first 127 camera ever; the first one was the smallest camera ever made when it was introduced (some years later, there were smaller ones; I also have a Zeiss Baby Ikonta that's half frame 127 -- sixteen on a roll -- and it's smaller than most compact digitals when folded -- very comparable to a Minox 35, in fact). This AVPK has a meniscus lens, but it's fully functional at around 100 years of age (the Kodak Ball Bearing Shutter is well nigh bulletproof). And most of the camera is aluminum, so it won't rust.

    Is it not traditional when shooting with a graflex, to take a flashgun with you, so that you can secrete your lightsabre in place of the battery pack, to be able to ward off any marauding storm troopers. If not it should be. Nice shots anyway.
