- Video from an epic Hike up Snowdon, a route we’ve not done up before, the Watkins Path, which didn’t fail to delight!
Starting just above sea level, of all the routes up Snowdon, this path has the greatest amount of ascent. It passes through the historic Hafod Y Llan farm and is named after Sir Edward Watkin, local landowner, MP and railway entrepreneur, who paid for the old quarry path to be extended to the summit. It was officially opened in 1892 by Prime Minister William Gladstone and became Britain's first designated footpath. This is a great route and is my new joint favourite alongside the more dangerous Crib Goch! Today was also a great recce/training for the 33 Mile Ultramarathon we have coming up in October, which features this path in the route!
It was a great hike, and after a very refreshing wild swim on the way back down, we finished our adventure in Beddgelert with a lovely cold cider and the best Vegan chocolate orange cake we’ve ever had!
