    • @christopherguilford5676
      @christopherguilford5676 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @reality check how does a non government agency have a right to do this? This argument just made even less sense. The government has a legit security reason for doing it. They even keep it away from corporate and other countries the best they can.
      You're talking that it's the same thing and it's nowhere even close. This CORPORATION is selling your information. Not only that but refusing to allow you to disallow tracking. The only thing they should know about me is what I post for the public to see. Everything else. My apps? What I view online? That should be cached on my phone not in their databases.
      The Geo location should only be utilized when I open an app that requires it to function.
      These are so very very very far from the same conversations

    BS about what google said. Phone calls and many other services worked just fine before smart phones. They also don't need to collect data 14 times and hour just because you want to use your phone 2 hours later or check a map. It's bs anyway because it's not like these services are running all the time. Why would you have to wait to load a map and not have all points where you have been listed instantly considering they are recording it all and have the data already? I can use google maps just fine on a desktop or laptop with no geo location at all. Lies and more lies!

    • @Flippokid
      @Flippokid 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      You think google maps on desk or laptop doesn't use geo location? Google maps isn't the issue though. Every reasonable person can conclude that when you open google maps, your location is used. I'd reasonably assume that 99% of the time anyone opens google maps they don't open it to see what's on the other side of the world, so it's consumer friendly to open with the area around you. This also happens on desktop. Again, that's not the issue.
      The issue is not using any service that uses geo-location, and phones still send geo location 14 times per hour.

      @reality check Oh.. you're actually all over this video crying about the NSA. Reality check for you: Most people don't give a damn if the governmental NSA does this. They keep it for themselves and can use it to protect us from terrorism amongst various other things. Another reality check: Google sells this fucking information.
      Get off here. Everyone and their mother knows about NSA and majority of normal people are okay with it. Maybe ask why people are ignoring you.

    • @jamieingels1190
      @jamieingels1190 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, why can't the phone just use your location as needed when you open a map app? What do they need our location for all the time? Why do they have to lie about it? Just tell the truth Google!

      i mean, it is complicated though. If the phone doesn't know what towers it has available it is unable to receive a phone call or text message. This isn't a 'google' thing, this is actually legitimately how all cellular devices have worked since invention. That said, Google using that data (which cannot meaningfully be turned off unless you want the phone to become a brick without the ability to call or text while in your pocket) to run ads to you is probably not ok.

    • @blubblubber9460
      @blubblubber9460 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidk8893 Yeah bs, like anyone has time for that, never even mind that it's hard to even function in today's society without using google services. That doesn't mean that google can demand what they want from the consumer. On the contrary, they should never have become as powerful as they are in the first place.

    • @davidk8893
      @davidk8893 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blubblubber9460 "yeah I don't have time for that" is not a valid excuse to get out of a contract. That would be like refusing to pay a plumber because you didn't feel like reading his hourly charge. By clicking "I read these terms and agree" you made a legal statement that you have read, understand, and agree to all the terms in the agreement. I don't necessarily agree with everything Google does, but you can't complain about having your data collected if you signed a legal agreement allowing them to collect it.

    • @blubblubber9460
      @blubblubber9460 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidk8893 Most people know that google monetizes their data, that's not the point. It's about how Google uses the data and in what quantity, and what kind of expectations they raise at the same time.
      Collecting geodata with location tracking turned off is the chief example. One shouldn't be required to read through the terms of service to find out about that.
      Reading the terms of service in detail for all kinds of google services takes hours after all, understanding it in full probably takes weeks unless you posess sufficient knowledge in both law and technology. It's just completely absurd to expect people to do all that. And I guarantee you, if they'd actually make a law that only people who understand google terms of service are allowed to use the service, google would vehemently be against that, because that would probably mean they'd lose 99% of their customers.
      You see exploiting the lack of time and energy, laziness and ignorance of people can work both ways.

    Thank you Senator, you are indeed terrifying in the greatest of ways. This well placed tenacity on the side of logic and reason is why I recently switched from blue to red.

    One reason why I so admire and respect senator gowdy! I so believe if I was located in his state instead of Oklahoma there is absolutely no way i would be struggling with the horrible anti trust situation I am now! These big tech companies genuinely destroy people and their personal life with the real sick disrespectful Shit they are allowed to get away with! I’ve been so terribly affected and yet I’m completely treated like I’m the damn criminal! We live in a wicked sick world

    Finally a Senator who makes me proud to be from Missouri. No I don't agree with everything his Party does, but he is knowledgeable and articulate and he is a much better speaker than Claire was and Blunt is.

      Blunt what a disappointment..

    • @davidk8893
      @davidk8893 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fact of the matter is that he is in no way knowledgeable. If he was, he would know the difference between the two types of tracking being discussed here: Location history, and anonymous location data. The former can be turned off quite easily, and is off by default. The latter can also be turned off by turning off the location button on the top of your screen in android. If he were to let the Google employee talk for more than 10 seconds, then maybe he would be able to explain the difference, but he keeps getting cut off. This is a prime example of paranoia due to technological ignorance.

    Be strong Josh and don't ever lose your momentum and energy because inevitably someone is going to try and take it from you. Our government needs so many more of your kind in its ranks. God bless Senator Hawley for slamming the hammer when no one else would.
