Whatever happened to me group New Hampshire Railroad Revitalization Association, them seeking to restore such services? In a similar opinion I believe that the rails, up to the MA/NH state line, are owned, or until some control, by the Commonwealth of MA (Look at Google Earth's sky view feature. You will see that the Nashua's Pheasant Lane Mall structure is entirely in NH while its large parking lot crosses south of the State Line into MA.) Could the MBTA run trains to a point just south of this state line, constructing a passenger boarding platform somewhere south of their state line? Could the owners of the Pheasant Lane Mall charge the same fee to park at the southern end of their mall parking lot, abiding by the same policies, posted by signs found at the MBTA's Commuter parking lots (for liability purposes)? Could any bus service operate so to bring MBTA passengers from various points north of the Pheasant Lane Mall to this proposed passenger boarding platform/station? Could the same such proposed service bussing operations bring MBTA passengers north from the Boston area upon arrival of trains from Lowell, MA? I believe that there are some ramifications of MBTA trains running north of the NH/MA state line of some kind.
Most of the video was filmed in Lincoln and several times the narration explicitly mentions it is the Fitchburg Branch, which is NOT part of the New Hampshire corridor. The Fitchburg Branch parallels MA Rt 2, going west all the way to New York while staying completely in Massachusetts. After Fitchburg, the tracks (though not MBTA passenger service) continue west to Greenfield, where they cross the Connecticut River and proceed through Shelburne and Charlemont, following the Deerfield River, to the Hoosac Tunnel and through to North Adams. The proposed passenger service to New Hampshire would be an extension of a DIFFERENT branch, I think the one that currently terminates in Lowell or the branch to Haverhill. I am aware of no plans to provide rail service to southwest NH, (Keene), but if so it would make sense to branch off or extend the Fitchburg Branch to the north, crossing into western NH, but for service to Nashua, Manchester and Concord, the Fitchburg branch is NOT the best choice by far.
Minor nit: the blue, black, and green ducts are not fiber optic cables, but flexible duct that can be buried (plowed) into the dirt or into the ballast. There is usually a second pass, or separate reel, of the fiber itself that would get pulled through. The fiber optic cable will be maybe 1.25” (max, and unlikely to be that thick) and pulled through by a mule tape and pull system, from intermediate pull boxes.
Ohhhh fascinating! Thanks for that correction. I saw a video on youtube yesterday of the train trenching and burying the cables, and i saw this weird orange stuff being dug with them, that must be the fiber!
Nice video. That trencher car resided in New Bedford for some time after the South Coast Rail cables were done. Small correction in that a scheduled train does not display any class lights. A following train running as a second or more section of a regular train displays green class lights and an extra train not in the timetable displays white class lights. In daylight they would fly flags of the respective colors.
Where roundabout 16:24, they arent talking to Wes, but rather West, that section of the Fitchburg line is under control of the Boston West train dispatcher.
I have to say you did a great job in capturing this project. Thank you for doing the hard work of research and then the chasing. It is indeed a rare set for a work train. Please keep up the good work, we all appreciate it.

I've seen the cable ends along the ROW - could tell they were some kind of fiber optic gear, but didn't know they were dedicated PTC cabling. Glad to know - keep up the good work!
A nicely detailed synopsis of a unique train. Michels Pipeline has had this fiber optics division probably close to 40 years. With their HQ in the small town of Brownsville WI which hasn't had rail service in about 40 years (old MILW RD) their initial applications were for US Sprint. GTE. Verizon and quite a few miles were placed along right of ways that are now ripped up. My first sighting of their activity was on the Duluth South Shore & Atlantic c..1985 @ Sidnaw MI which at that time was embargoed and removed the following year crossing the former Milwaukee Road line to Ontonagon. That metal blade probably was down at least 4 ft add up there was moving quite an amount of loose rocks in the dirt. MPCX. Had an outdoor shop at Byron WI where they had up to eight cars alongside the Wisconsin Central Main.and the "brute" of the fleet was built on the frame of an old ATSF GE and at one time I believe they had 2 GP9 units in off white that worked projects in AZ and CA. It is quite a sight to see and Michael's also works on railroad construction engineering for Bridges tunnels around the nation and even some abroad

#2107 isn't a GP 38 shell but is now classed as one with 2,00hp. It was built as a MoPac GP50 and its current configuration was done by (I'm guessing MK: aka Morrison Knudsen) as the result of UP having it rebuilt into a low horsepower/low emissions unit before it was sold off.
The 2107 shell is a GP50 shell not a GP38 shell. It started life as Missouri Pacific GP 50 #3504 It now has a Caterpillar 3612 prime mover in it instead of an EMD 645E3.
Sooooo what I’m taking away from this video is that the MBTA installed a safety system in a manner that they knew was going to fail, but did it anyways. Then the taxpayer has to pay for them do the entire job again several years later, only this time they do it properly (maybe). Classic MBTA.
They need one incase the other breaks down etc. That would cause crazy delays to the whole installation process, and would just be a hassle cus they would have to borrow an MBTA locomotive
