Former FBI profiler and program director of the George Mason University forensic science department Mary Ellen O'Toole joins CBS News to discuss the latest updates in the case.

I just read the full indictment, this man is a monster. SCPD and FBI have been building this case quietly and thoroughly. Can’t wait to see this animal rot for the rest of his life.
A grand jury was involved, that's why it was quiet and under the radar, police knew a lot but kept it close to their chests until the indictment

It’s almost surreal that they were finally able to identify and arrest this guy. I live in LI and remember when the bodies were being found. It was scary knowing that there’s a serial killer right in your backyard. To the police’s credit, they did one heck of a job building a case against him. One thing that O’Toole said that can answer why it took so long is that they had DNA but they needed technology to catch up for them to use it. At the end of the day the police will always get you. Rest in peace to all the victims of this sick monster.

Just like the Golden state killer, these serial killers are still living in the same areas where they killed - decades later.
The belt that was found at the crime scene did indicate to officials that the killer was a large male and he fits that description. Let’s see if more evidence points right to him.
What about the others?? There were 10-18 bodies (as per wiki). So 4 have been accounted for. The remaining??

I've seen a tv series in a while. Title "Killing Season" and among others killers there was a thread about LISK. But what was most interesting in it was that scientists and criminalists estimates that there are about 60 active serial killers constantly in the USA.
possible motives?? the victims look nearly identical. would love to see a photo of his mother. or the girl who was mean to him in high school, etc. He was definitely targeting someone in his mind.

This case is an interesting story. It seems no matter where you dig in the US, it's not unlikely you'll find some dead bodies. There are too many unsolved cases rotting in police archives.

Have you never seen the Lost Girls? The Police and Press didn’t care about these young women going missing, they were dispensable to them. Seeing this disgusted me in ways I had never been disgusted before. I never not cared about a person because of their occupation it was their actions and treatment towards me and others that summed up my judgement of anyone and everyone. Some of these young ladies were nice and loving, their best friends being their sisters! When this case remained unsolved i thought about it all the time, and I wondered if they found out who did it. "A drowning man was rescued today by vampire bats in the Greasy River, according to a statement by Lisa Gankowski, spokesperson for the office of Clayton County sheriff Albert Thompson" (first sentence of story), for example, became "Bats Rescue Drowner" (headline). Nowadays, headlines _ask questions_ and they're long and idiotic: "How did vampire bats literally just rescue a drowning person and totally make the Internet legitimately explode?"

These idiotic, long, questioning headlines are as grammatical as the good ones that they supplant. I say that it's impolite to treat others thus. It is possible to make money doing the news without that approach. @@wisdomit429 well I know that. Also it's unlikely 2 serial killers used the same small dumping ground for victims bodies. Maybe he'll confess to them for a lighter sentence or to avoid death penalty. And I'm sure getting old and physically weak must've played a part in him stopping his crimes. Or he may have been careful because of the high tech surveillance and social media attention to missing persons in recent years.
Would like to know if he was the killer that dismembered the victims that aren’t charged /included in this arraignment …they were mostly murdered earlier and mo was slightly different.. but same dumping ground etc.

The mo’s are a completely different pattern and that alone implies 2 or more killers, imnsho. Intent and satisfaction are not necessarily even close except dead and disposed of at the end. It’s an entirely different level to mutilate and dismember someone who’s been murdered.
