I'm giving away my age but as a young 20 year old living in New York with my truck driver boyfriend who was on the road 5 days a week, this show got me through many lonely, boring nights. This and Star Trek TNG.

"Are your pupils distended?" This show is so dry and cozy. I had two or three tapes of this recorded from ComedyCentral with the commercials chopped out, which remained mainstays for years. Then again after TH-cam showed up. It's a hidden gem, but I've rarely bothered showing it to other people because it has such a lowkey cadence and tone that most people probably wouldn't appreciate. I think Doc's remark about Emo (as a patient) having a knack for exploring the subconscious also applies to Emo (the comedian) as a guest and as a comic. His act plugs in really well, whereas some of the other comics can seem a little bit stilted or rote at times. In general I always liked the non-"therapy" parts best, but when you think about everyone who was on this show at some point.... Louis CK and Marc Maron were both on that couch, both Gary Shandling and Conan O'Brien. Steven Wright, Jon Stewart, Dangerfield, Chappelle, Gaffigan, Patton Oswalt, Gilbert, Brian Regan, Mitch Hedberg, Dave Attell, David Cross, Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, the Smothers Brothers, Ray Romano ...several more. It's just too bad Norm MacDonald was never there. Always loved Todd Barry as the video store clerk in the later seasons. The finale of one of the seasons is a Thanksgiving episode where you finally get to meet Dr. Katz's ex-wife/Ben's mom....and it's CARRIE FISHER!

in the uk, dom irrera isn't well known and certainly wasn't at the time, so imagine my surprise when i saw him on tv and he looked NOTHING like his cartoon. they all have some resemblance to their cartoon but he looks completely different. this is a dark-blonde young lad and dom looks like super mario without the tasche. because of this show, i always recognise people's voices before i know who the hell they are.
oh no it was a sxual abuse joke? i thought it was an abuse thing but more like the dad enjoyed messing with the kid psychologically nothing filthy. so he was shaped like a mitt that would catch the ball.
@@Auriam I like Bob's Burgers. Great show. Jonothan Katz actually does the voice for a character in that. I don't like South Park and Family Guy. I find those shows shallow and too fast-paced. Suited for the ADHD generations.

But as a response to the earlier commenter who claimed that PC killed all good cartoons, there are some that manage to be edgy and offend people even today. But I definitely prefer the Bob's burgers, home movies, Dr Katz, King of the Hill type :)
