I think the funny part is the subtext that he's avoiding answering the question cause it's implied that the character probably didn't go to medical school.
Dr. Arroyo is an amazing doctor. He help to deliver my baby last week. I don't have a wife, and I didn't know i had got somone pregnant.
But he delivery the baby at my house, said the baby was kinda healthy, gave me bottle of rum to help me sleep at night if the baby cries and also 50 dollar bill.

The “take my pulse” bit was brilliant
Dr. Arroyo saved my life. I showed up at his clinic (Chili's) with a rash, and he nearly leapt over his table to perform CPR on me. I did not even know my heart had stopped, and I was very surprised to learn that CPR is done with karate chops. Needless to say, my rash went away four weeks later. I'm only able to write this comment today thanks to his extensive training at doctor school.
It's not a doctor school, it is Doctorschool-auf-mainkopf, in southern Bavaria. Famous for its mountain springs rich in sulfur, known cure for hiccups and leprosy.
That was hilarious! Loiter around outside Conan's podcast building and maybe he'll hire you if you tackle him on the way to his car and break into some improv. I hear he likes and admires go getters like that! 😂

@@LAFC. I think the biggest thing that gives it away is that they're not breaking character which is probably a lot harder than it seems to do, especially for 20 minutes.
@@LAFC.Rewatch it again, but this time pay attention to their body language.
Whenever Conan is about to finish his line, he will often look up directly at Arrojo or nod his head of point at him, and Arrojo will do the same thing with his eyebrows or other quick gestures or putting the accent on specific words. The very first bit they do about the name of the clinic is a simple example of that.
As per Sona's "character", I mean no offense to her, but her job is to just sit there and laugh.

What makes this bit work is that Conan plays it straight. While Sona is cracking up, Conan continues to act as if he's having a legitimate conversation with his doctor. Both make a brilliant team and I love that Conan knows when to be the clown and when to let others shine

I was a patient of Dr. Arroyo, and I can vouch for his legitimacy. I came to him with a fractured leg, and he told me that I "was made of sterner stuff." Additionally, he reminded me that sticks and stones may break my bones, but words could never hurt me. It really boosted my morale! My leg is kind of crooked now and sort of just dangling there, but I got a major confidence boost! And only for $10.99!
His delivery of, "You don't need a Rolls Royce to take you to the...Goodwill," was hysterical.
What did that mean though? "Taking to the goodwill"?

I'm a longtime fan of Conan and generally chuckle when listening to his podcast these days...but THIS banter between the two of them had me literally laughing out loud the entire time. Full on belly laughs. Love this guy!!!!

The guy is literally a cartoon character: the body language, the face, the dialogue, his story. One of the best characters and people Conan has brought to the show in his career.

OMG, Conan, Sona and Matt are always funny, but this is monumentally hilarious. And it seems at least partly improvised, which makes it all the more amazing. As a physician watching this between patients I am dying in my office. I loved his role during the Hot Ones video and this follow-up visit was just what the doctor ordered!
Now you’ve done it, by typing that you’re “dying” in your office, beware. Dr. Arroyo may suddenly pop up to provide an involuntary checkup. He will probably drag you out of your medical clinic and go to a restaurant where the restroom will have everything he needs to treat you.

I just love it when doctors have a sense of humor, use it, apply it and appreciate it. My doctor at Hopkins when I was 9 not only saved my life because he went to "doctor school" but also because he spent time with me, we told jokes back n forth, played card games, read books and of course had heart to heart talks. I loved that man and God bless his wife and family (I say this because many times he had to be pulled away from her and them to be there in an emergency situation) for us. He could only invite a small number of patients to his retirement party and I felt honored that me and my family were one of those. You could pick us out in this very prestigious black tie event because my family was the one wearing jeans... 😂

Jose Arroyo is absolutely hilarious. He was amusing on Hot Ones but this interview in character is absolutely wonderful.
Almost everyone connected to Conan becomes famous. Sona, Gourley, Schlansky as well as some of his other staff and now Dr. Arroyo. The most affordable Doctor that graduated at the top 100% of his Doctor School.
Several writing staff interns have gone on to become noted actors or writers including Vanessa Bayer, John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling, Ellie Kemper and Jack McBrayer.
If you really think those 5 people are his entire staff then you have no clue how a massive show and its production works.

Matt is a terrific comedian, a founder of the Superego improv group.
He is a 2 time emmy award winner writer/producer.

Ok, i get why he has been in Conan's writer staff for so many years. Quick wit, deadpan delivery..
He was giving me some Bob Einstein (who was the absolute master of deadpan) vibes with how good he was, even with Sona and Gourley laughing the whole damn time.
Absolutely genius.
He was fantastic on Hot Ones with Conan and Sean, of course. But as an English person, beyond his Dr. Arroyo appearances I didn't know who he was.
Then I watched the Conan video where Conan talks about 'what happened to his body post hot ones', where he describes and compliments Jose Arroyo and Jose's comedic talent and how they know one another.
Again, as an English person, I didn't really know who he was (although I realised I had probably watched a lot of American stuff that Jose Arroyo had had a lot of writing input on).
Now, watching this, I get it. I am now a massive fan of Jose. Oh my gosh, the man is an absolute bloody genius. Unbelievably quick wit, nicely/pleasantly weird, and clearly very very talented. I can see why him and Conan are such good friends, too! This was 20 minutes of pure, unadulterated, and unedited improv. The fact that Conan had such trust in Jose's ability to riff back and forth completely unscripted for 20mins straight, is surely a compliment, but also testament to Jose's natural sharp wit.
Absolutely genius.

Conan steamrolled Hot Ones (in the best possible way), and Dr. Arroyo really brought the entire thing to another level. Conan managed to have multiple running gags throughout the show, was an absolute psycho with the hottest hot sauces, and somehow managed to be thoughtful and interesting while also rubbing hot sauce on his nipples. Conan is the GOAT host in general and easily one of the best Hot Ones guests of all time, if not #1.
