In my opinion, for something like book ends, it still IS a single split, but since it's between the end drums it gets a special name. If someone called it a single split they'd be right, it just gets a special name because of the voicing.
    I'm excited for part 2.

And also, I think for the "Rhythm dictates the rudiment" idea, it does to an extent, but what I think that guy probably meant was something like you can have hertas played as 16th notes with 32nd note inserts or triplets with sextuplet inserts and they're both hertas.
Bass drum example would be a single split could be 16ths or sextuplets or 5lets but its all on one hand.

Man, the quality in this video is excellent. Not just the content, but the editing and style as well; I’m looking forward to seeing the breakdown from the form!
I think your definition of a rudiment as a unique sensation to the performer is spot on. Look at the classic 40 snare rudiments; one could argue that having so many different roll variations is redundant, since they are essentially the same concept, but something as simple as changing the length of the roll creates a different sensation in the hands. This can then be applied musically, i.e. a 7-stroke roll is used very differently than a 5-stroke roll, so both are good to practice in isolation.
I think it’s very smart to treat bass drumming the same way, albeit much more complex given the additional variables that come with splitting things up amongst so many people. If anybody can dissect and standardize the art of bass drumming, it’s you.
    Keep it up!

Excited to see what that bass drum rudiments sheet looks like when you’re done with it!

I hope that as a community we can come to at least a 90% agreement on some of these rudiment names (gamecube and bunny hop supremacy). It was super fun responding to the google form, and I hope that the quality of responses matched the quantity received! Good luck with the rest of the work you do with this man, super cool stuff.

love how this breaks down terminology that's relevant to both bass and flat drummers. the production quality is also great! looking forward to seeing more videos, would love to hopefully see bass concepts being explained with some visual/audio examples for easier digestion.

Take car bombs for example. How would you interpret it if you were bass 2 or 4? I love bass drum. I wanna learn how to interpret the more dense stuff. Like at @3:44 30 second notes 1/4 I wouldn’t know how to interpret the 2/3 partial to play it in time?
