THIS IS SIIIIIICK!!!!!! What a tease :P cant wait to see the longer content- This is what the community needed!! Thank you for making this content for us.
i really hope this film captures the tension that is created in the line when people start realizing how many spots are open and who is getting cut. being on edge for WEEKS not knowing if you'll get the spot or someone else. obviously i don't expect that much length out of a short film but it would still be cool to see it displayed. CANT WAIT TO SEE THIS!!
Watching this it still floors me that instructors still put kids on the base line because they have no where else to put them due to the students talent level. If used right Bass Line is the hardest instrument in the band, even some the best drummers can't do bass line. and yes knowing all of the music parts for your particular instrument when going into an audition is a must for everybody, Drums and Horns.. why? as Chris Rock said "Because you never know...."
I think this is cool because it goes to show how drum corps auditions are, yes it isn't boot camp but it is more like think fast, be prepared, and follow instructions, the instructors are chill but demand a level of professionalism. That in and of itself is stressful.
Top bass from 94-96 Cavaliers here. Dec camp for the 95 season our tech put me on drum 4 most of the weekend as a sort of temporary test, I think. I never played a lower drum or paid attention to a part other than bass #1. I smoked it and 8 months later we captured a DCI championship and a Sanford. If you need some story ideas for inspiration, hit me up. We definitely had some real deal drama that year.
You never know when the calling may come--all you can do is be ready! We love hearing these sorts of stories; thanks so much for sharing. We'll be in touch!
What's hilarious is how low the stakes actually are. There is no pressure or test of resilience and adaptability. Just the petty whims of the little tyrant who's supposed to teaching them.
We are planning to shoot a short film in early 2025 to generate interest in a full TV series! We aim to begin filming the show in the fall of 2025. In the meantime, we will continue creating additional scenes and behind-the-scenes content for the Drum Corps community we are building.
Highschool marching band: on freshmen just going into battery no, because most of the time they aren’t expected to have seen music like this (especially in my county because they started us on actual music during highschool). On a highschool who’s already marched, yes. There is a standard you have to reach as a vet and if you can’t meet it then you don’t deserve to be on the line College: from what I’ve seen yes, Especially the wasting everyone’s time part. If you think you can walk into an audition without being able to play most if not all of the packet then you definitely weren’t ready for the audition DCI/DCA/WGI: OF COURCE, you are literally trying out for the best of the best, if you don’t bring all you’ve got then you didn’t work hard enough
Batterie is fully about the Drum Corps experience and we'll be following the journey of what it's like being a part of this incredible community. The ups, downs, and everything in between.

At least he had the balls to try.

this is awesome
God I would hate to start over on bass drum just because I have to learn 5 parts. I don’t even know how to do splits
So will this be a movie or a show? Either way, I like this concept

@ absolutely, get in deep in the community cause I know some DCI fans and players will absolutely appreciate these types of stories being told.
drum corps whiplash would be fire lowkey
Who’s playing yuessef?
The Creator and Director of Batterie, Aaron Mills
@ gotcha
This is what Drumline should have been.
you know somethings wrong when two snare players are on bass and know the parts..
Gotta make the line any way you can
dang, are battery techs this harsh in real auditions?
Let's just say it's in your interest to know all the parts ;)

looks cool but PLEASE dont be a Whiplash clone
