What Makes a Rudiment? (Bass Drum Rudiment Analysis Pt. 1)
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
Part 1 of a series of videos that I will be making to find common ground on bass drum rudiments. This video discusses why bass drum rudiments are so hard to specifically define, and what factors should be considered when identifying a rudiment. Yooo you played with my homie Ryan Jonker! I had the pleasure of being taught by him at Legends in 2012. Great videos, I think the activity is lacking in useful information on not just how to play, but learn/teach/synthesize these concepts. Keep 'em coming!
Great vid 💯
I'm surprised that you don't at least mention the importance of staying in touch with the feet. I feel like the feet provide a constant "check." Not saying that they replace the pyramid check, rotating check, the full unison check, or anything else that the hands do. Just saying that I feel like we build what the hands are doing on top of what the feet are doing. Then again, maybe that can't be the case in WGI, where you're not always marching or marking time.
I could make a whole video on how marking time can be useful, and I probably should. I agree with you, but this video is specifically addressing the unison check.
@_downbeats_ Just watched two more of your videos and realized that you're way past talking about locking in to the feet. Your content is amazing.
We did unison checks at cap last year! It was the first time I’ve done that and I thought it was weird at first, but then we immediately got better at the chunk, so it works. We also used pyramid checks at Scouts when I was there, especially in 2023.
Great video and great explanation. Now stop so you don't give out too many secrets...
Amazing stuff, dude! Love the bass drum community, but we seriously need more bass drummers out here making videos as valuable as this!
Dude I've been a bass tech for the last 4 years, and this type of stuff is going to be SO awesome to share with my students. Seriously thank you so much. Keep making good shit like this :)
this is fire
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
So great, don't stop these please!
Great stuff man!
MY BASS TECH MARCHED 4 THAT YEAR!!!
Another Dadisi banger. Unison check > split check/double downs > part I feel like a lot of people also glance over double downs to get to that "easiest to see check" you mentioned. It doesn't help the upbeat people to just not play durring the check sequence and then magically fill it in.
One thing I think you should do is play each break u explain. Ik we all would love that
You're right, I don't think you're the first person to suggest that. But it would take me an extra month to put these videos out if I did that💀
@_downbeats_ true but hey you marched rhythm x for Pete's sake
🔥🔥🔥
AWESOME video, great examples of how beneficial breakdowns can be! also that marine bass music is the craziest split i've ever seen, if that's not the craziest, you should show and example of the craziest split you've ever seen or played.
Great job
