I made my sparkler block which I found on Lori’s blog. I had trouble with the striping. I made a stupid cutting mistake with the stripes. I think I’ve managed to salvage the piece but I won’t be posting a picture! 🤣 We are going camping this week so no quilting for me another week. Your blocks are just a qork of art!! Hi Julie! The enamel tiered tray came from Tractor Supply a few years ago. They have super cute country decor sometimes. I am using Springbrook by Corey Yoder which is the little bee print and the gray and yellow plaid is Michael Miller and I think that line is called Queen Bee? The white is just a white on white dot. Of course! When you are sewing a block, before you put that block under your sewing machine foot, you sew a leader first. So for us, it would be two squares together for our gingham quilt. When you finish chain stitching, instead of pulling the block out and cutting the thread (which can waste a lot of thread) you finish with an ender (sewing together two squares for the gingham quilt) and then snip your sewn pieces off of that ender. I have Joy in the Journey as part of a 1999 Leisure Arts booklet by that title, by Diane Williams. It has 6 fabulous patterns - I did 3 of them years ago and it’s one of the few old pattern books I’ve kept bc I still want to do the rest. Worth searching to see if it’s still out there!

Heather, I spent a good deal of time yesterday having fun learning how to make crochet flowers. I was inspired by the one you made that you have on your strawberry bag. I was wondering what size hook you use and what kind of yarn.( I guess the weight of the yarn?) I used a pretty small hook and some Lori Holt cotton yarn. My first few attempts were pretty pathetic but by the last couple I was pretty pleased with the result. Just wondering if they are a bit too large.
For those teeny flowers for the strawberry I actually used dmc and just used all six strands. It’s super finicky but then it was small enough for the strawberry! I don’t remember what size hook but it was small. At most 3.25 mm. I hope that helps!
@@CraftyCottageStitches Thanks. I might try it but I am so new at making them that it might be frustrating. I learned to crochet years ago but it's not something I've done very often. The only things I've made are simple caps and scarves. My friend just started crocheting and she is starting out making three dimensional animals. I was raving over a little monkey she made with a tiny derby hat. She gave it to me!!! I am so impressed that she is making these animals after only just learning the skill. Been watching all your previous episodes and having fun with them. I'm up to 23. hahaha Keeps me entertained while I work in my sewing room. I love your videos because they don't just focus on cross stitch. I love all the crafty stuff and of course the quilt stuff.

Thank you! A leader is a piece if fabric you sew and leave under your presser foot so when you put your next piece through the corner doesnt get pulled down into the machine. So you are basically chain piecing. The ‘ender’ is the same thing. So after you piece what you are working on you send a scrap through and leave it under the foot. Or in my case I put another set of squares for my gingham quilt through. I hope this helps? It was harder to write out than I thought lol
I stitched Joy in the Journey this past year and then found Quilt Time Sampler to stitch ( also LHN) in 123 Stitch to go along with it. @rezniksc. I loved your small tomato idea and had to get some. Thank you so much for all the great ideas!

We live in Washington state in Olympia. Our most local LNS is Acorns and Threads but it’s a little over 2 hrs away. When we can’t get there we love shopping on Etsy supporting local shops that way. Happy stitching 🥰

Hi, Cindy! A lot of the ones that you see us dye are started on white or antique white. I have started with other bases of linens that we got but did not like the color. I have Joy in the Journey as part of a 1999 Leisure Arts booklet by that title, by Diane Williams. It has 6 fabulous patterns - I did 3 of them years ago and it’s one of the few old pattern books I’ve kept bc I still want to do the rest. Worth searching to see if it’s still out there!

Heather, I spent a good deal of time yesterday having fun learning how to make crochet flowers. I was inspired by the one you made that you have on your strawberry bag. I was wondering what size hook you use and what kind of yarn.( I guess the weight of the yarn?) I used a pretty small hook and some Lori Holt cotton yarn. My first few attempts were pretty pathetic but by the last couple I was pretty pleased with the result. Just wondering if they are a bit too large.
For those teeny flowers for the strawberry I actually used dmc and just used all six strands. It’s super finicky but then it was small enough for the strawberry! I don’t remember what size hook but it was small. At most 3.25 mm. I hope that helps!
@@CraftyCottageStitches Thanks. I might try it but I am so new at making them that it might be frustrating. I learned to crochet years ago but it's not something I've done very often. The only things I've made are simple caps and scarves. My friend just started crocheting and she is starting out making three dimensional animals. I was raving over a little monkey she made with a tiny derby hat. She gave it to me!!! I am so impressed that she is making these animals after only just learning the skill. Been watching all your previous episodes and having fun with them. I'm up to 23. hahaha Keeps me entertained while I work in my sewing room. I love your videos because they don't just focus on cross stitch. I love all the crafty stuff and of course the quilt stuff.
I love seeing all your crafty goodness this week. And I’d love to see a craft room tour. Can you explain what a leader and an ender is? I don’t sew very much but am intrigued by quilting lately.
Thank you! A leader is a piece if fabric you sew and leave under your presser foot so when you put your next piece through the corner doesnt get pulled down into the machine. So you are basically chain piecing. The ‘ender’ is the same thing. So after you piece what you are working on you send a scrap through and leave it under the foot. Or in my case I put another set of squares for my gingham quilt through. I hope this helps? It was harder to write out than I thought lol
I stitched Joy in the Journey this past year and then found Quilt Time Sampler to stitch ( also LHN) in 123 Stitch to go along with it. @rezniksc. I loved your small tomato idea and had to get some. Thank you so much for all the great ideas!

We live in Washington state in Olympia. Our most local LNS is Acorns and Threads but it’s a little over 2 hrs away. When we can’t get there we love shopping on Etsy supporting local shops that way. Happy stitching 🥰

so, when you hand dye your fabrics, do you start with pure white? do you use that formula on different bases as well?
Hi, Cindy! A lot of the ones that you see us dye are started on white or antique white. I have started with other bases of linens that we got but did not like the color. I just experimented with those one! There is a light blue that we like from hobby lobby once it is tea dyed. I will try and show that on our video tomorrow. Happy stitching 😃
