On a related note, be very, VERY careful where you buy crimp terminals these days. I'm a qualified electrical engineer and I've been crimping stuff for decades. Needed to do some wiring on my Disco' recently so I bought a job-lot of hundreds of spade, ring and pin crimps from Amazon. Set to work and began to wonder if I was going senile when I found I could pull the wires out of all the crimps I'd done. Eventually I had a close look at some of the crimp terminals and realised they appeared to be made out of old beer cans rather than being copper with a coating of tin. The metal just had no rigidity at all so it wouldn't "bite" on the wire. When a bag of 10 crimps costs £10 from an electrical supplier and you see a kit containing hundreds of terminals on Amazon/eBay for £7.99 it's very tempting but, unless you're totally confident about the quality, you'll be better off biting the proverbial bullet and buying from an electrical supplier. If you're determined to buy from Amazon, buy a single bag of terminals, see what they're like and then go back and buy more if you're satisfied.
When i crimp connectors i dip the end off the wire in vaselin then crimp, and den dip the end of the connector as well before putting it on! At least if its copper wire, the tinned ones are usually ok. There is heat shrink that has glue on the inside if you want it to be waterproof!
The quality of the crim tool is as important as the quality of the connectors. The battery powered heat gun is invaluable for light duty heat shrink tasks. Way to go Mike.
...I'll add that quality wire is important too. I've found a brand called Polar Wire that is stellar in cold temps. I've had cheap wire that became brittle and lost all of its shielding when temps dropped to -20F.
I have all the tools required for Land Rover repairs.. I ‘THE’ tool of course. Mike’s separator ‘thingy mabob’… along with the sticker… I also have a few gallons of ‘fuel’ and some matches… IYKYK!!!
Good video Mike. Crimps are great particularly for the gold coloured terminals. The more simple crimps on the blue/yellow/red tube style connectors don’t fill me confidence though. Also don’t forget solder connectors in clear heat shrink, they are excellent.

One of your earlier videos about master cylinders just popped up in my feed and reminded me to ask a question: does a heavy duty clutch necessarily mean a heavy clutch pedal? I’m recovering from a broken ankle and the pedal weight is killing me.
Generally yes - a HD clutch should have more clamp pressure - however a 300Tdi HD clutch has a few mm more diameter than a regular plate Very hard to say as there are so many combinations
I found another brilliant method of connecting wires, a couple of years ago Mike. I think theyre called "solder seal connectors". Just strip your wires then place in the ss connector. Theres already a ring of low temp solder on the inside of the transparent heat shrink. Heat gently with a small portable butane iron (with the hot air tip)... And bingo - a really good joint, soldered and heat-shrunk in one step. No need for any crimping at all. Yes, there are the neh sayers that say soldering is not as good as crimping but ive never had a joint fail yet. (Would be extremely tidy for your atoto wiring too) Zero soldering skills required! Oh and theyre peanuts for about a million assorted sizes

Even my local auto parts shop sells that crap. It's frustrating.

I have found that cheap quality isn't always the cheapest way to go, it can be cheaper to pay more for better quality in the first place.

These were pretty good and well worth the price considering it does a range of crimps and does a double crimp too

I have far too many crimpers, from F type to RJ45, the interchangable jaws is nice, wish it was around before I bought all the others.
This cheap crimper has the jaws for the barrel crimp too - so I sent the ones I bought for the Titan back to Amazon

Plus they usually have a glue element as well (the coloured ring, not just for sizing!) which adds a mechanical bond as well, they're really good
