    • @KevinVideo
      @KevinVideo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think this combo is also supposed to take into account creatures that have resistance. Even if you did more damage on average with the tiefling feat, the creature would still resist half damage. You could still take the Elemental Adept feat, but you'd have to either sacrifice another +2 to Cha or wait until you're 16th level.

      The problem is that on average, the damage gain is not that great when stacked as opposed to each one individually. Rerolls on their own help a lot with individual d6s, changing the average from 3.5 to 3.92. Turning 1s to 2s makes the average jump to 3.67, but together, the change only goes to 3.94 (a result of diminishing returns).
      For reference, let's look at Fireball with each of these averages.
      - No die mods: average of 28 save for 1/2.
      - EA: Negate resists, average of 29.36 save for 1/2.
      - FoP: Average of 31.36 save for 1/2

    Alternatively, you could also be a level 14 Evocation Wizard, take Elemental Adept: Fire to overcome resistances, then put as many points as possible into Int and Con, and if you have room, grab the Tough feat. Then, you can use Overchannel to toss out fireballs that do maximum damage to your enemies everytime (up to 53 damage for a 3rd level slot, 65 for a 5th level slot with your Empowered Evocation bonus with maxed Int), while also never needing to worry about friendly fire thanks to Sculpt Spells. A higher Con score helps with this so that you have a bigger pool of hitpoints to soak the damage from Overchannel.

    With Pyromancy Sorcerer subclass you could bypass the Elemental Adept feat if you want to because the subclass has a built-in ignore resistance(you do loose out on damage a little since 1s aren't treated at 2s) but if you get up to level 18 you can turn immunity to fire to resistance to fire which means you could smack everything with fire. Was thinking about trying a Dragonborn Paladin/Sorcerer with Pyromancy the guy was going to love fire. Was hoping to be either an Amethyst or Emerald Dragonborn to have resistance to Force or Psychic since Pyromancy gives you Fire resistance, which actually doesn't help with resisting your own spells.

    I have the potential to do a 5 fireball spell combo in one round with my 10th lvl 3.5e Dwarf Wizard. So here's the rundown.
    I have the Feats: Quickdraw, Twinspell (Complete Arcane), and Residual Magic (Complete Mage)
    Items I need: Metamagic Rod of Quickenspell(Major), and a 5th lvl Wand of Fireball.
    First I Twinspell my Fireball making it a 7th lvl spellslot, while using my Rod of Quickenspell. I then am able to cast another Fireball which still has the Twinspell effect on it due Residual Magic feat. Finally I'm able to Quickdraw my Wand to cast another Fireball however due to the secondary effects of the Residual Magic feat, the Wand releases a Fireball of 10d6 dmg instead of the usual 5d6 dmg.
    So after both casted spells and a use of a wand I'm able to do 50d6 of Fireball damage. Which is pretty nuts for me.
    Also yeah I know there's RAW in the various books for use of Quickdraw/Quickenspell. However for the current campaign I'm playing it they're more RAI.

Maybe killing all the enemies quickly allows you to skip some turns while waiting for more to appear, making things a bit faster.

    Be a tiefling and get the feat: Flame of Phlegethos. Now when you roll fire damage you Reroll all 1s AND with Elemental Adept each 1 counts as a 2.
    Also, if you cast Delayed Fireball at 9th level and extended spell to it's max of 24 hours. Then, wherever you put that bead. If you managed to keep concentration until the last second with both those feats and maxed Charisma. That blast will deal 14414d6+5 (5,688.22 on average, half on a successful dex save) fire damage, which, if it wasn't immune, would kill the Tarasque 42 times.
    Unfortunately, while you could transmute the fire damage into thunder damage (to damage the Tarasque), it wouldn't benefit from your feats or your draconic sorcery, and you can't Extend a spell you've Transmuted... Metamagic rules.

    Take 11 levels in Order of Scribes Wizard, and get the spells Chain Lightning and Disintegrate.
    Then take 2 levels in Tempest Cleric for the Channel Divinity: Destructive Wrath. When you cast Disintegrate, use your Awakened Spellbook to change the damage type from Force to Lightning.
    Then use your Channel Divinity: Destructive Wrath to maximize the damage of Disintegrate, for a flat 100 Lightning damage.

    • @BYERE
      @BYERE 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only problem is that a lot more creatures resist or are immune to lightning damage than there are those who are immune to force damage... so while you may be doing more overall damage, you run the risk of them negating half or all the damage.
      Plus, because it's Disintegrate, if they succeed their DEX save, they take 0 damage (it's not a "save for half" kinda spell)

    • @jacobyullman5005
      @jacobyullman5005 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BYERE A few things. Firstly, while there are plenty of creatures that have resistance to Lightning damage, it's no where near as common as Fire or Poison.
      If you're facing a creature with Lightning resistance then just don't change the damage type or attempt this combo.
      Also, I'm well aware that Disintegrate is a "save or suck" spell, but that's regardless of this combo anyway. You also trigger Channel Divinity when you deal the damage, so you don't have to worry about wasting it. Hell, just being able to maximize the damage of Chain Lightning is great.
      If you're in a situation where you want to use Disintegrate, and you know the creature isn't immune or resistant to Lightning damage, then use this combo. If not, then don't.
      If you're able to cast Hold Person or Hold Monster, or you have a Monk in the party that manages to Stunning Strike the enemy, then that's even better, because paralyzed creatures automatically fail Dex Saves.
      Ultimately the downsides you've mentioned equate to the inherent risks associated with Disintegrate, and the possibility that a creature you're facing might be resistant. If you're smart then of course you should obviously test for that beforehand, and/or take the Elemental Adept feat.

    Two minutes is a super long time in combat so it’s really up to you how long these waves are stretched out, but should never be longer than a few seconds, could be used to give your Pc’s some prep time for the next wave, or to down consumable items.

    Love the idea and was curious of furthering it into becoming a "fire god" but wanted to check. So, riddle me this, say you do everything you said here BUT instead cast the fully concentrated delayed fireball spell into a glyph of warding (say on a rock that you just found and have been filling your pockets with for a long time) and then set the activation to be contact with an enemy or maybe a spoken word (see where I'm going here?). Then have a stash of these rocks with the glyph on them then proceed to throw them in battle and use the activation effect to then discharge countless fully powered delayed fireballs (with all the additions you mentioned). The only catch I currently see is the note in the PHB on glyph of warding that says, "If the surface or object is moved more than 10 feet from where you cast this spell, the glyph is broken. and the spell ends without being triggered", but would that mean the 10 feet from where the spell was cast, as in you stand here and ten feet is here thus no effect outside here, or since you cast it on the rock and the rock comes with you the object that the glyph was cast on has not moved ten feet because the glyph is on the object being moved? I can see holes in this, but a friend wanted to start a new campaign and I love your tips and really wanted to try to make him just go WTF. Thanks, and keep up the good work

    there is a way to make a far worse nuke, though you need quite a few wizards or sorcerers with the enlarge spell, simple cast the delayed fireball(or the regular one) and cast enlarge on it as many times as possible(using the quicken spell feat does wonders) and make sure you use the maximize spell feat and extended spell feat to maximize the damage dice, other feats and possibly a race or class to increase the fire damage is even better, and the enlarge spell will increase the size of the blast range and the damage, from how i have always played it and seen it played, just like with weapons, the bigger the spell, the bigger the damage. most i ever saw the spell reach was 40d20, X if he had crit(he had a feat to increase critical range on spells)
