Some gay people admit that they clearly remember the day they gave in to this lifestyle, and they were fully straight before that. I have worked with boys who were molested, (never felt gay before) and started having homosexual desires/fantasies after being raped by men, so, this issue is a lot more complicated, than what you presented.

So yes, I too have spoken with both gay and straight people about their desires. While it is completely valid to acknowledge the experiences of those who feel their sexuality has shifted or evolved, shouldn’t you also consider the many people who have always been attracted to the same sex, even before experiencing any sexual actions, before concluding that being gay is a lifestyle choice? I agree that sexuality, in general, is complex; it isn’t just about actions-it’s also about desires and attraction, which are intertwined. @Mo a Unfortunately it doesn't work this way at all. Ethnicity does not require experimenting, nor is a choice, because it depends on your lineage. This is not the case with sexual orientation. It depends on nothing we know of. Gay people are gay, bi people are bi, that's all. This doesn't mean this is a choice. The only way the education influences the sexual orientation is if the kid is taught that being gay is a sin or whatever religious shit, then they will be more likely to repress their sexual orientation and live hidden. Being straight is backed by science as much as being gay is, or any sexual behaviour. One, it happens, so it is natural. Two, same-sex intercourse and parenting for that matter has been observed in many animal species. Experimenting is far different from chosing. When you experiment you try several options to see which one ou like better. That doesn't mean you hate them all, that doesn't mean you like them all. That means that there is one or several of them that fit you. It's not a menu in a restaurant. Straight people know they are straight, yet they sometimes experiment with people of the same sex. You cannot choose your ethnicity, nor can you choose your sexual orientation. Saying sexual orientation is a choice is blatantly homophobic, because it denies LGBTQ+ people their identity as human beings, and puts the blame on them for decades of oppression. Believe me, if it was a choice there would be far fewer gay people given the fear and prejudices that Carson and other jerks disseminate in the society.

it's usually not a choice that is made overnight, it's a choice that can take years and usually an entire childhood to develop. the developmental environment has a massive impact on children and adolescents/teens and not always but much of the time people of homosexual orientation came from childhoods that were in some form abnormal pertaining usually to psychological abuse, physical abuse or both. I have observed it, read about it and have been told about it by people that lived it. And that might not seem on the surface to be a choice because it is a gradual psychological change over often substantial amounts of time. It is a choice because it was not a condition they were born with but a factor of their environment and how they responded to it. For example there are many people that have equally had traumatic upbringings but are not homosexual. Humans are born predisposed to their natural gender role but can have that natural circuitry rewired.

I do believe however, that there likely are certain biological factors involved which can make it more likely that an individual will turn out gay. I believe that people have the freedom to make their own choices and are best suited to do so themselves. If two men or two women are attracted to one another and choose to spend their life together, why would I argue with that? Why would my personal beliefs about homosexuality being biological or not even matter? What I was saying in my comment above was that there could be biological factors involved in a person being or becoming gay. our biology is incredibly complicated and we have have relatively little understanding of it. What we do know however, is that certain genes can lie dormant in a persons body, and be activated because of enviromental impressions. This can be the case with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and dementia, and a whole bunch of other physical or mental matters, like for example 'gayness' (not saying being gay is a mental 'illness') In your example about identical twins swinging different ways, I'd say that due to leading different lives, and therefore experiencing different enviromental influences, some of those twins could have had these 'sleeping' genes triggered, while others have not. Despite having almost the same genealogy. (We now also know that identical twins don't have absolutely identical DNA, this also serves to undermine your arguement. Look it up.) Even if there would be absolutely no biological factors involved in a person being gay, that still doesn't make it a concious decision or a 'choice'. Not in most cases at least. In cases where someone 'goes through a phase' as you put it, one could argue that there was a biological or mental attaction before them choosing to act on it. This could still be present after the 'phase', but the person has simply decided not to act on it further. And what makes you think that gay sex is somehow "immoral"? If it is that it spreads STD's then straight sex is just as immoral, since it does the same thing. If it is because it doesn't result in reproduction, then what about straight sex with birthcontrol? However, if they feel the need to change it using surgery and hormones, I don't really give a shit. I studied behavioral neuroscience for my bachelors and it’s crazy that he doesn’t mention the brain differences between men, women, gay men, and lesbian women. Certain structures of the brain in gay men are the same size as women but are statistically different than that of heterosexual men, it’s most likely due to prenatal hormone reception in the brain. A good example is the INAH3 nucleus or the median pre-optic area of the brain. For some reason Wikipedia says there is no difference for the INAH3 but most recent studies (even dating back to 1994) say the opposite. Some really interesting stuff! I recommend checking it out. What does the Bible say about homosexuality? In some people’s minds, being homosexual is as much outside one’s control as the color of your skin and your height. The only way the education influences the sexual orientation is if the kid is taught that being gay is a sin or whatever religious shit, then they will be more likely to repress their sexual orientation and live hidden.
Being straight is backed by science as much as being gay is, or any sexual behaviour. One, it happens, so it is natural. Two, same-sex intercourse and parenting for that matter has been observed in many animal species.
Experimenting is far different from chosing. When you experiment you try several options to see which one ou like better. That doesn't mean you hate them all, that doesn't mean you like them all. That means that there is one or several of them that fit you. It's not a menu in a restaurant. Straight people know they are straight, yet they sometimes experiment with people of the same sex. You cannot choose your ethnicity, nor can you choose your sexual orientation.
Saying sexual orientation is a choice is blatantly homophobic, because it denies LGBTQ+ people their identity as human beings, and puts the blame on them for decades of oppression. Believe me, if it was a choice there would be far fewer gay people given the fear and prejudices that Carson and other jerks disseminate in the society.

it's usually not a choice that is made overnight, it's a choice that can take years and usually an entire childhood to develop. the developmental environment has a massive impact on children and adolescents/teens and not always but much of the time people of homosexual orientation came from childhoods that were in some form abnormal pertaining usually to psychological abuse, physical abuse or both. I have observed it, read about it and have been told about it by people that lived it. And that might not seem on the surface to be a choice because it is a gradual psychological change over often substantial amounts of time. It is a choice because it was not a condition they were born with but a factor of their environment and how they responded to it. For example there are many people that have equally had traumatic upbringings but are not homosexual. Humans are born predisposed to their natural gender role but can have that natural circuitry rewired.

I do believe however, that there likely are certain biological factors involved which can make it more likely that an individual will turn out gay.

regarding to your first comment about "deciding whether or not you believe it's biologial", I'd like to ask you; "why?". I believe that people have the freedom to make their own choices and are best suited to do so themselves. If two men or two women are attracted to one another and choose to spend their life together, why would I argue with that? Why would my personal beliefs about homosexuality being biological or not even matter?
What I was saying in my comment above was that there could be biological factors involved in a person being or becoming gay. our biology is incredibly complicated and we have have relatively little understanding of it. What we do know however, is that certain genes can lie dormant in a persons body, and be activated because of enviromental impressions. This can be the case with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and dementia, and a whole bunch of other physical or mental matters, like for example 'gayness' (not saying being gay is a mental 'illness')
In your example about identical twins swinging different ways, I'd say that due to leading different lives, and therefore experiencing different enviromental influences, some of those twins could have had these 'sleeping' genes triggered, while others have not. Despite having almost the same genealogy. (We now also know that identical twins don't have absolutely identical DNA, this also serves to undermine your arguement. Look it up.)
Even if there would be absolutely no biological factors involved in a person being gay, that still doesn't make it a concious decision or a 'choice'. Not in most cases at least. In cases where someone 'goes through a phase' as you put it, one could argue that there was a biological or mental attaction before them choosing to act on it. This could still be present after the 'phase', but the person has simply decided not to act on it further.
And what makes you think that gay sex is somehow "immoral"? If it is that it spreads STD's then straight sex is just as immoral, since it does the same thing. If it is because it doesn't result in reproduction, then what about straight sex with birthcontrol? Is that immoral too? I don't see anything immoral about consenting people giving eachother pleasure.
That part about CONSENT is also exactly what differentiates peadophilia from other sex. Peodophilia is immoral because people take advantage of kids, who are often unknowing and are unable to give consent. I studied behavioral neuroscience for my bachelors and it’s crazy that he doesn’t mention the brain differences between men, women, gay men, and lesbian women. Certain structures of the brain in gay men are the same size as women but are statistically different than that of heterosexual men, it’s most likely due to prenatal hormone reception in the brain. A good example is the INAH3 nucleus or the median pre-optic area of the brain. For some reason Wikipedia says there is no difference for the INAH3 but most recent studies (even dating back to 1994) say the opposite. Some really interesting stuff! I recommend checking it out. The researcher Simon LeVay is a good starting point if you are curious

As many have pointed out, beginning with Kinsey, sexual orientation is a spectrum. One end of the spectrum is 100% heterosexual, where someone has never had a single fantasy about any member of the same sex, never noticed that a member of the same sex was attractive, never experimented, never had a dream about someone of the same sex. Such people are rare. We are all far too complex for such a simplistic categorization.
On the opposite end of the spectrum are people that are 100% homosexual. They have never been attracted to or experimented with anyone of the opposite sex, just like the 100% heterosexual above. These people are even rarer.

Great, it's easy for him because he is 90% heterosexual and besides already has a girlfriend.
To a well-adjusted straight man, such an event would occasion something along the lines of "Huh. That was weird." And then he'd move on. But now the bigot thinks he has made a decision not to be gay.So, in his mind, if he made this decision, why can't everyone?
But here's the rub. He will never share this experience because he is ashamed of it. He is terrified that if he tells others of this "decision," they will think he actually is gay. So when gay people insist they do not choose to be gay, he thinks he has a special secret insight. "Of course they choose," he thinks. "I did." So he assumes all gay people are lying about their orientation, but he can never say why he believes they are lying.
This bigot thinks of sexual orientation as a binary choice (in fact, his entire worldview is likely binary). So he could never conceive of people far on the other end of the spectrum toward homosexuality who may have even had a fleeting sexual experience with a member of the opposite sex but realize they are way too far, say 90%, on the homosexual end of the Kinsey scale. In some people’s minds, being homosexual is as much outside one’s control as the color of your skin and your height. On the other hand, the Bible clearly and consistently declares that homosexual activity is a sin (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9; 1 Timothy 1:10). This disconnect leads to much controversy, debate, and even hostility.
When examining what the Bible says about homosexuality, it is important to distinguish between homosexual behavior and homosexual inclinations or attractions. It is the difference between active sin and the passive condition of being tempted. Homosexual behavior is sinful, but the Bible never says it is a sin to be tempted. Simply stated, a struggle with temptation may lead to sin, but the struggle itself is not a sin.
Romans 1:26-27 teaches that homosexuality is a result of denying and disobeying God. When people continue in sin and unbelief, God “gives them over” to even more wicked and depraved sin to show them the futility and hopelessness of life apart from God. One of the fruits of rebellion against God is homosexuality. First Corinthians 6:9 proclaims that those who practice homosexuality, and therefore transgress God’s created order, are not saved.
A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as some people are born with a tendency to violence and other sins. That does not excuse the person’s choosing to sin by giving in to sinful desires. Just because a person is born with a greater susceptibility to fits of rage, that doesn’t make it right for him to give in to those desires and explode at every provocation. The same is true with a susceptibility to homosexuality.
No matter our proclivities or attractions, we cannot continue to define ourselves by the very sins that crucified Jesus-and at the same time assume we are right with God. Paul lists many of the sins that the Corinthians once practiced (homosexuality is on the list). But in 1 Corinthians 6:11, he reminds them, “That is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God” (emphasis added). In other words, some of the Corinthians, before they were saved, lived homosexual lifestyles; but no sin is too great for the cleansing power of Jesus. Once cleansed, we are no longer defined by sin.
The problem with homosexual attraction is that it is an attraction to something God has forbidden, and any desire for something sinful ultimately has its roots in sin. The pervasive nature of sin causes us to see the world and our own actions through a warped perspective. Our thoughts, desires, and dispositions are all affected. So, homosexual attraction does not always result in active, willful sin-there may not be a conscious choice to sin-but it springs from the sinful nature. Same-sex attraction is always, on some basic level, an expression of the fallen nature.
As sinful human beings living in a sinful world (Romans 3:23), we are beset with weaknesses, temptations, and inducements to sin. Our world is filled with lures and entrapments, including the enticement to practice homosexuality.
The temptation to engage in homosexual behavior is very real to many. Those who struggle with homosexual attraction often report suffering through years of wishing things were different. People may not always be able to control how or what they feel, but they can control what they do with those feelings (1 Peter 1:5-8). We all have the responsibility to resist temptation (Ephesians 6:13). We must all be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). We must all “walk by the Spirit” so as not to “gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16).
Finally, the Bible does not describe homosexuality as a “greater” sin than any other. All sin is offensive to God. Without Christ, we are lost, whatever type of sin has entangled us. According to the Bible, God’s forgiveness is available to the homosexual just as it is to the adulterer, idol worshiper, murderer, and thief. God promises the strength for victory over sin, including homosexuality, to all those who will believe in Jesus Christ for their salvation (1 Corinthians 6:11; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Philippians 4:13).
