As a lot of you know I’m making the move from Florida to Montana. So before the winter hit we decided to head out to my new location and make sure the market was viable for a mobile welder. Well as it turns out there are no welders in the area. So I put a few ads out and went meet some of the people in town to get there opinion on a welding service. I got 3 jobs in a matter of 2 weeks! So I’d say the market it healthy! Here is my first Montana welding job, where I made contact with Bob from Southmont Concrete (which works well, because I needed a concrete contractor!) They where nice enough to let me use there shop and even some of there equipment. I’m excited to see what my future holds here in my favorite place. Wish me luck!
Good luck brother, 29 years as a ironworker working in 10 below zero and - 40 windchill, been in Florida for 10 plus years freakin love it here...be safe..
You could look into a small portable inverter welder for mig work and small tig/stick. My buddy has a miller suitcase welder that does it all.
yeah I use fronius trans steel and transpocket machines on my truck. they work out really well.
Never met a guy named Anthony that wasn’t super chill. I just found your channel and really enjoy it.
We always called it a knuckle boom crane. Hydraulic cylinder for each section. Some have a winch on them also. Enjoy your videos. Worked in the logging industry where you don't always have time to get correct parts and have to make due with you have at your disposal.
I'm 48 years old and impressed with you and your channel. You know how to do so much. I wish I had gone and learned a trade when I was young. You're gonna be one of those wise old grandpas someday that can make and fix all sorts of things. Your channel is more entertaining than anything on TV. Watching you fix things is amazing as you come up w some creative ways. I wish you the vest in your biz and your new home. Good for you.
Thanks glad you enjoy it!
That's Awesome that you are in Montana. I'm an Electrical contractor and also do mobile welding and fab. I moved back to Wyoming from Las Vegas this last September. Hope it all goes well for you.
We are looking to move from vegas too. So tired of these summers.
You’ll make it work you look like a go getter and great at what you do. I love your videos I learn alot
I liked your video. I’m a high school student and where I live my town can enroll you into college trade class as electives for free which means I’ll be able to get my welders certificate right out of high school as long as I complete the program. It’s nice to see what some different kinds of welders do because it helps me find what I want to do in the future.
It's a Knuckle Boom Hoss!
We just call them Boom Hosses...
I admire your will to chase your desires.
Love the view of the mountains there. Hope it works out well for you there. Dress in layers, and never leave home without a jacket.
Welding those racks looks good. Fabbing the first is always the slowest. Stay warm. Fell better, you and your wife, and no motorcycle on snow covered roads…😵
for sure bud! hope to be making the move for good soon
The vertical bandsaw chilling in the back while he makes all those grinder cuts like 🫣
Moving to northern Montana from the East Coast is the best decision I’ve Ever made, was used to the cold and snow already living in ct tho lol
Nice. Using what u got to make it hot !! Weld on brotha
100%
Fantastic video all ways appreciate your time to show what your doing and your skills👍👍and the landscape is beautiful. Hope your wife feels better soon. Look forward to more videos👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Good deal brother!!! Good luck and keep us posted🤙🏾
Thanks! Will do!
I moved to Cheyenne Wyoming from the San Francisco bay 17 years ago, same deal - too many stupid people , too many regulations and I knew eventually some kind of big event was bound to happen and I didn't want to be stuck . Life is unpredictable so enjoy it where you are happy ! If you ever roll through Cheyenne stop by . Charles
Best of luck with a move to Montana. If I were a young man I would move there.
Great job! Good luck with your new endeavor in Montana! Glad you are making videos.
Congratulations on your move, mountains are beautiful.
I live in California.. I love me The Woods And Mountains thoe..... 👨🏼🏭🤟🏼👏🏼
We call it a HIAB crane, HIAB is the company that build these Truck cranes. It's very usual here in Austria. Hope you and your wife getting better soon, but you will deal more often with kind of colds in Montana I guess. The country I came from (Austria) the winter here is pretty similar. We have a lot of mountains (the Alps) and snow. But with all my implanted iron in my body (knee, wrist, spine) I can't stand the cold any more and would love to move to Florida, that's the reason I'm being there during the coldest period of our winter. Kind of snowbird. Wish you best of luck anyway and I like the new Truck. Stay safe and hopefully you guys feel better soon.
Tom
Have you ever looked into a skill metal saw?
Definitely savers a lot of time and saves on tool box space
My home state man! Glad u love it
good luck on your new adventure. Hope the wife is feeling better
yes she is ! thank you!
Anthony hello I'm glad to see I'm not the only one from the south up here in the north me and my daughter moved from Louisiana all most 5 years ago to come live in the mountains the winter's are the best I love the cold my daughter loves the snow I wish you and your wife the VERY Best in Montana keep up the great welding I may have some questions for you some time hope that you might answer them for me and I love your videos thanks David
Florida to Montana big difference I really wish you luck.
Anthony, you have some slick torch cutting skills. Very little dross and slag. Well done!
thank you!
You really want to see a human with some serious gas axe skills check out IC welds here on TH-cam
Yes , Isaac from IC is inhuman with a cutting torch .
Awesome !
Anthony, you have all these nice tools but you have a dollar store tape measure . I recommend a Milwaukee wide blade tape . I bought one recently and I haven’t looked back since .
Get yourself one of the Milwaukee tools trim squares, just like a speed square, just smaller and easier to use on 2" material.
I don't know if you're still using those quick connects, but I highly recommend switching to the Koike ones. They're a good bit more epensive, but well worth it. I've never had an issue with them even with salt on the roads in winter
Ive been to Ennis once. I went to a shop called shed horn sports and bought a gun lol. thats a pretty area for sure. At the time i lived in West Yellowstone MT. I like it there a lot. Have fun getting really into Snow Machines. :)
Cool Anthony, hope Montana is all you hoped for. If nothing else the contrast with Pinellas will definitely give you a richer life experience and break up the mundane nature of living in same place for too long., I appreciate your work ethic and hope he was happy with the end result.
Welding in Montana 🎶🎧🎶 soon....gonna be a cellulose tycoon🎶🎧🎶doo doo doot doo doo
Looks like you need an ln25. Good job bud hope the work keeps flowing!
Got one in my other truck in FL
@@MeltinMetalAnthony well shit doesn't help you out there now does it lol. That's the worst when you go to get a tool and then realize you left it in the shop or on the other truck.
Looks great Anthony! Congrats on the move; now you get four seasons and mountains to boot!
Good luck on your new path in Montana!
You need a bench top portaband brother, great videos just got my own rig together doing major frame and boom repair
Boy i hope you're ready for the cold lol you'll get used to it... working in 5 degrees tho In the dead of winter can be grueling
ill just do shop work lol
@@MeltinMetalAnthony build a massive shop on your property with a little loft apartment up top and you'll be good to go
@@mcfwelding im doing a barndominum your close, but I do have a wife lol and you know women they need house room.
@@MeltinMetalAnthony oh I know all too well haha, happy wife happy life 😄 I want to get of out jersey in the worse way and Montana sounds reallllly nice
You are so charismatic and energetic! :) I love it! :)
Thank you so much 😀
It's a knuckle boom btw
I would love to move to the mountains of Montana
Best of luck!
It's Kinda cold here in Helena. 25 Below with the wind chill yesterday. A balmy 0 this morning. Two years ago on March 3rd it was -31! Actual temp without wind. Get mittens and put handwarmers in them so that you don't get frostbite. Good luck.
the gloves and boots are the only things I havent invested in so far
I wear roping gloves under my welding gloves in the winter. Most of the time its enough. Always have extra gloves, socks and hand warmers in the truck though.
Nice work. Good luck in all you do. Try a suit case W.F. you'll love it.
Too bad Bob didnt have a dry cut saw to lend you
Good job as usual and best of luck to you on your move to Montana
Great work! I always like to see what project your working on.
A cut off saw would have saved a lot of time and straightness.
Psssshhh all my cuts are dead on 😉 but yes it would have. If I wasn’t 3000 miles away from my evo saw
I have the same thought. I would've brought evo along if I have to cut that much metal.
Pick up a few 90 deg magnets for holding your parts together, and that ensures an accurate 90.
Too cold beautiful but cold I’m a New Mexico high desert dweller forever I guess it gets down to teens in winter here but nice summer and spring
A fan would also be a good Idea.
Best of luck In Montana Man
If your quick connect ends keep freezing up, you can melt them down with the exhaust of your truck, usually have to do it that way myself. Always keep air line antifreeze with yea if your doing lots of gouging or work with air lines from compressor
Good tip!
Movin to Montana soon, going to be a dental floss tycoon. That's an old Frank Zappa song. Have fun being cold in the winter. I used to like to cold but, as I got older, it's just not as fun anymore.
Looks great man! Moving to Montana within the next year too
sweet!
What part of Montana
Knuckle boom
Well alright Anthony, looking real great....don't forget to look into some Polypropelene long underwear....you will thank me for it.....do not know if you need the tops, but the bottoms are great and indispensable in the weather you are in...........I lived in Cleveland and traveled al lot doing outside work in the snow......they are great.....Cheers....Paul in Orlando
I definitely will Paul
Knuckle boom crane
Invest in a toothed saw (unless you have and just don't care for them) I find them better for repetitive cuts - I have an evolution but there are many to choose from - I like the videos but don't care for the repetitive intros - proud of you and your drive, sir
I was thinking of dropping it, but a friend encouraged me to keep it. im gonna put it to a vote
Nice I want to move to Montana from British Columbia
Liquid white out better then soap stone it don't burn off so when using torch u can still see lined
its a boom
Good luck from South Wales. What's your other TH-cam channel?
adventure Anthony. I don't post much there
Lincoln MP 210 and a Hypertherm XP 30 air would save you A LOT of time and money.
didn't have that in Montana!
Good luck brother enjoyed the video. I like your content cause I see myself in your situation here soon.
You might want to consider some adjustable stands so can you don't have to catch your cut piece. Also a chop saw or something might have been a bit easier.
Hell yeah bro
Sweet your in my neck of the woods . When did you move from Florida
not there 100% yet
Hey MMA, if you could point to what you forgot the name of it might help. My guess is headache ball.
What are your reasons for moving to MT?
“Foldy boom crane thing”…. That is an industry term…
😂
It's a knuckle boom
Hiab
Hi Anthony great video and good luck with your move have you been to Australia 🇦🇺 HOO ROO Paul🍺👍
Boom
What respirator do you recommend for welding fumes? Great video love the channel!
3m quick latch and I can’t remember filters
keep tham in the kab
Nothing wrong with zip disc cuts lol if you know what your doing it’s fast and straight and you don’t have to pack an extra tool on your truck
All the pieces cut out of the pipe should have turned out 3/8 to small? Good luck
is that toboggan fireproof? best to go with 100% cotton or 100% wool so you dont torch your head
I never saw this Rig of yours before, did you have it all along here in Florida? you are looking sharp.......Cheers
yea ive had this truck for a long time I just finished putting it together before I left
@@MeltinMetalAnthony are you keeping the old ford?
What cut of wheels did you end up using? I know you did song good comparisons. Looking good man
bench mark abrasive in this video
Watch some CCE... Good wife makes him wear that 2k respiratory gear
A Florida boy moving to Montana…. You do know what winter is… right?
Are you talking about the boom?
Great job! What did you do for marketing when you moved to the new area?
just walked in asked if they need my service. that's how I got most of my best customers
And I noticed you weld on your bed idk if it would hurt I know it's got a coating on it but maybe in can or truck have battery disconnect switch just so it don't ark the bed and dry your truck computer I may be wrong but would hurt look into it
Na it won’t hurt nothing. Current isn’t going to loop all the way through the front of the truck
Why move away from Florida? Just curious.
too many people
Quick question for you. Why the respirator when MIG welding? Was it galvanized or something, or just bad ventilation?
always wear it! if your heating anything it is releasing fumes into the air
You should always use a resperator or at least a m95 dust mask after a while you really start to feel it not only welding but cutting disks and abrasive disks ex grinder flap wheel whatever you use or call them are not the best thing to breath in i used to care what people thought or said but now I'm all about ppe eyes ears and lungs wish I would have realized this when i was younger the damage is already done
U had a bandsaw behind u 😀just where the frame is.
Wow! Nice project job. I guess if the customer provides the material, shop, and even the welding equip., then you are only into it for labour? I worked 40 years in the equip. service industry, and it was necessary to sell labour and material in order to make a decent profit. Labour alone wouldn't cut it. I am sitting here drooling over your Florida warmth and sunshine.....and here you go wanting to pick up and move to Montana! LOL Yikes!
I sweat at 70 deg I run HOT lol
No suitcase I don't miss the cold I'll stay south
You should've used a smaller tip on the torch
Anthony, you moved way up north, but your first job is for Southmont, what gives, haha
lmao never thought of that Paul! it is south Montana
Dude always looks like he just woke up with bed head.
Where in Montana are you moving to?
Davit Crane or boom Crane maybe
big changes for MMA...is this move permanent? my dads favorite movie was "jeremiah johnson" about a mountain man in the late 1800's. your outdoor opportunities should be amazing... hope you and the wife are better and over your illnesses. take care and good luck up there!
we are thanks for the concern! this place is pretty special, was once the biggest gold mine in Montana
@@MeltinMetalAnthony cool
Keep cutting my man....
Why did you move to Montana. It is beautiful there
Spray your quick connectors with wd40 when you’re done with them to stop them from freezing.
I will thanks!
I wouldn't use wd-40 with compressed oxygen. Bees wax is the only recommended lube, as I recall.
Good luck on the oxygen side with that. Boom!
