      Yes, at least I think so. I own the Waza version as well, then you can actually combine settings in two modes. Plus a stereo in. Might be worth checking out if you haven't allready done so...

      Yes. Also, TC Electronic's Corona Chorus has a "Dimension M" Toneprint which is a fantastic cheap substitute for people not wanting to sell a kidney for a Dimension C.

    Partial to the CE-1/CE-2, I think of the Dimension as an essential chorus, but not “best” per se. With thanks to Ikegami Yoshi and crew for releasing the Wazas of each!

    This is the one pedal where I'd say the Waza version is superior in every way. It doesn't have the clipping problem, and you can have two buttons in at the same time.

    Best chorus ever?
    Definitely the CE-1. No question about that. But for true stereo chorus (meaning at least two separate delay lines, not wet/dry like the CE-1 or phase inverted like my DOD FX65), the Dimension D rack unit is probably the best. Either that or the Dytronics tri-stereo chorus. But I'm not a big fan of Dimension-style chorus with heavy distortion, because it cuts so much low end. With high gain, I prefer either stereo detune or a multi-voice digital chorus like SPX90 Symphonic or the Intellifex 8-voice chorus.

    I've owned both the DC-2 and DC-2W. I thought the original sounded a little better, but ended up selling it, as it had headroom problems that meant that it worked poorly with strong humbuckers. It could probably be got around somehow, but for my purposes the DC-2W simply made more sense.

    i have the Waza version and it might be my favorite pedal. i can't explain how the Dimension side different from the Chorus side, but its certainly unique. i run it into distortion (MXR 5150) with the 1st or 2nd setting which gets you some 80s rack tone vibes.

    Hi Leon, awesome demo as always. Was wondering what your thoughts were on the overall EQ of this pedal? I have the Waza version, and though it does sound amazing, it seems to suck a noticeable amount of bass out of the signal when engaged. I lose a lot of low frequencies which feels like I lose just a little bit of output, even though that 's not exactly the case. This is just the character of the pedal, IMO. More mid focused. Wondering what your thoughts are on this?

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I suspect it's probably the out of phase modulation that results in some of that "bass suck" - works great in a mix!

  • @tolchok89
    @tolchok89 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought a TC Electronic 3rd Dimension, more or less a copy of the DC-2, and it's even cheaper than the Waza Craft version. You can also use more than one mode simultaneously on that particular version.
    I guess as a bassist, I just wanted a simple chorus pedal, and the use of buttons instead of knobs just seemed like the right way to go.

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the "multi buttons" trick is pretty cool.Is the TC mono or stereo?

    • @tolchok89
      @tolchok89 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeonTodd Mono, unfortunately.
      But honestly, I'm not really doing anything nuts with it, just your average run-of-the-mill stompbox setup.

    I concur with your labelling of the DC-2 as the "king of chorus pedals". Its throne ascension relies on two basic aspects of its design:
    1) Unlike most analog chorus pedals that use a single modulated BBD (delay chip), the DC-2 uses two, which are counterswept. That is as one is moving towards shorter delay times, the other is moving to longer ones. The net result is that it never sounds fully flat or sharp because it is always a little of each, hence not one or the other.
    2) Because it uses two counterswept BBDs, it is actually providing *three* voices (clean, plus 2 delayed), which is a bit more like a chorus, rather than a duet.
    On top of this, the use of the 4 buttons for presets, instead of rotary controls, prevents anyone from achieving "bad" settings.
    I'll note that for a little while, Behringer made a very good and accurate clone of the DC-2, albeit in their widely rejected plastic enclosure. I picked one up cheap and it is excellent. Indeed, I think I may like it more than an actual DC-2, because it uses cheaper buttons. The buttons Behringer used allow one to press as many, or as few as you want, rather than any single button defeating all the others, as on the real DC-2. My own favorite setting is actually NO buttons pressed, which gets a nice quasi-slow-Leslie swirl. If you can find one of these babies, scoop it up quick because, like I said, Behringer isn't making them anymore. And please note that the TC Electronics Third Dimension chorus may *seem* like a DC-2 clone, but it is mono, while the Behringer CC300 (whose reverb prices seem to have skyrocketed) is stereo.

    Is this really a chorus? I always thought it was more of a de-tune type, the kind of sound you get if you pitch shift up and down a few cents at the same time

    • @LeonTodd
      @LeonTodd  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's a chorus, but there's 2 modulated voices that are modulated 180 degrees out of phase with one another so the net result is much smoother sounding, which sounds a lot more like a pitch detune. Great trick.
