This pedal is outstanding and is on my board permanently now since it’s release, not so much for drive ( in my opinion)but on clean it’s so good you almost can’t tell it’s on when used in stereo or mono. Most of the Waza craft pedals are extremely good, hope they release a phaser sooner or later.
I own this DC-2W and the (even better) FTT Tri Avatar Multi-Chorus = both are phenomenal. I've played in a Rush Tribute Band so i'm a huge Alex Lifeson fan and a bit of a Chorus junkie. Sounded heavenly today.
Prince purple rain, I’m pretty sure although lots say boss chorus was used it was this it sounds like it, as do lots from that era, how many engineers at the time just mix as they hear, would the artists truly know exactly what was used on everything, or would they want to let other know? How the got a certain sound, I’ve heard a lot of tracks by people and thought it’s this effect, Andy Summers being another, it’s why I bought this a few years back, sounds completely different to chorus, great on Rhodes, pedal steel. Everything. Sound full rich and the stereo depth is just awesome.
Sounds good! I still have my Dimension D in the studio - I have always liked the subtle movement it offers. I checked out the Dimension C recently - need a simple floor pedal again - but I wasn't happy with the volume loss when engaged so I went for the MXR Analog Chorus in the end. The MXR is as basic as it comes but ideal for me because you can dial it back to a point where you only really notice it if you turn it off (if that makes any sense!). I used the CE-2 late '80s / early '90s when that super 'glassy' sound was de rigueur but it just sounds wrong now, sort of like the EP sound on the DX 7 😅
Nice timing since Ive been curious of what kind of chorus are used in the 80s coz Im obsessed with mk.gee’s tone. He’s a brilliant guitar player that’s getting a lot of recognition with his 80s guitar tone in these modern days.
Maybe I can help. Some of the most used "chorii" (rack units) were: 1. Roland Dimension D SSD320 2. Dytronics/Songbird Tri Stereo Chorus (the lushest chorus there is) 3. TC Electronics 1210 (chorus presets) At the top of my head those are the main ones. There are pedal versions of these. Also note that Stereo Micro Pitch Shift was also a very common effect used (in combination with chorus) that gets you close to the 80's sounds. If you need to know more let me know!
@@CharLessMajor7Music If you really want the tweakability and want a seperate pedal for that effect your best option is the Eventide Micropitch, but the Eventide Tricerachorus also has a stereo pitch detune build in which you can activate in conjunction with the chorus or seperately.
I think the difference between line6 version and boss was the boss is at the end of the chain after reverb vs line6 was like in the middle of the chain and also has a mix control to adjust how wet the sound is maybe.
These are great. But because these roll off the bass so much, I like them best used in a wet / dry / wet rig.Where only the left / right pair have the rolled-off bass, but the dry center amp stays full. Or on a mixer so the chorus comes through studio monitors, but dry signal through amp. The Space Dimension circuit was more designed to be used from a mixer in a send / return and to mix back in just some of the stereo chorus with the dry signal. Sometimes the bass rolloff doesn't matter, like on the lead lines in your intro where it sort of gives the guitar a Fender Jaguar like character - in a nice way.
I used one to record an acoustic guitar and the result was disappointing, it added just noise and the track lost definition... The tech added the pedal on the final master when I already recoded thru mics; I don't know the signal path he used...is there a way it can sound in all its glory so I can suggest it to him next time?
@@lovecraftmusic8717 I'd probably just run it in parallel and with a fairly low level. So it just adds some subtle stereo / movement to the track. Another way might be to put it in parallel, low-level, but with a fully wet slap-back delay before it. So that the chorus is only on the slap back delay, not on the initial signal so initial transients come through uneffected. I tend to like chorus that way, only on the echos, and use a DOD rubberneck, because it has a send return on the delay pedal. Then add a gentle auto-gate after it, to further tame the noise. Or processing it carefully with something like izotope rx. That way the transients / original acoustic guitar tone would come through, mostly unhindered by the processing, and the processing itself is subtle and clean.
.... but what if I have an *actual* chorus pedal that was made in japan in the 80's? That said the dimencion C is my favorite of the Boss offerings of Chorus, it's so nice, can do subtle and less subtle.
Chorus, the 80's creeping closer? Just a f'n circle of old stuff we used to threw in the dust bin back in the day. Now it's time for the next generation to buy the same shit. Water proof plan with 20 years apart.
I remember when i first tried Dimension D, same time Yamaha SPX 90 was new kid on the block and suddenly you are trying effect that is two times bigger than Yamaha and has just four buttons and that's it. But it sounded good, i just never understood why it is so big, because it weight like nothing.
These do sound great, clearer pitch / less dated sounding, and less muddy than the CE-2W and better stereo. BUT, they also sound less thick and liquid, and they do suck the bass and don't do that classic slow pitch wobble, if that's what you want.
no great tone ever has benefited from wishywashy 80s 90 00 10s or 20s chorus. imho. its the ketchup of the fx board. making everything sound the same. yikes. not your playing.

I love this pedal. I think it’s one of the best pedals of all time
My favorite chorus hands down. Sounds great on everything. Just saw a video with Aaron Marshall talking about using chorus on distorted guitars.
That’s interesting because John’s playing reminded me of Intervals

This had to be one of your most melodic solos yet. I love the pedal and I love your playing ❤
I ended up getting the tc electronic 3rd dimension knock off. It scratches the itch, really great clean sounds. It's like ear candy.
SRV used the Dimension on his Let’s Dance parts (or more accurately the producer did….) Great sound > great demo as well JNC👍🏼
Could you please do a demo of the Meteoric Effects Stargazer please!!
I have the Arion SCH-1 Stereo Chorus, another classic.
Crazy Tube Circuits’ Sidekick Jr has a similar (mono) Dimension setting, modelled on this 👍🏻
Oh, good to know. Love Crazy Tube Circuits stuff!

Love it! TC Electronic 3rd dimension is also a good take on that tone!
This one was my po’ boy entry into the Dimension chorus.
Yes but it's only mono, in my opinion the Dimension sound is at its best stereo!
Can you please give a lesson on the chords you’re playing? And how you’re combining it with those hot licks?
If you want a similar sound in a pinch and already have the e hx pitchfork, it has a “D” setting that does a fair approximation as well

MXR single dial chorus is my favorite.
The Dimension is my favorite chorus in the Axe-fx. Another famous user is Gary Moore. He made heavy use of both the Dimension and Space Echo.
Is there a song that is a clear example?

Is the HX Stomp version comparable in people’s opinions? Thorpy FX Deep Ogin sounds lush. My CE-2 has been going strong since 91 😀
Is there such a thing as a chorus pedal that won't produce 80s tones?
CE-1 wasn’t exactly in vogue in the 80’s, or was it?
Boss Chorus ensemble pedal kinda sucks
The Boss CE definitely wasn't an 80's chorus, especially when the Dimension racks and the CE 2 came out!
Yes. Especially shi**y ones.
Hi Nathan and greats from Argentina. Wich over/dist use in the intro for lead tone?
Not a fan of it on my guitar, but started using it on my bass

Before
Which one of your HX Stomp presets were you using here? That's a great clean tone.
During the pedal demo I mean :)
Agreed. I need that one! And the name of that little glitchy delay!
It sounds ok, but nothing beats Dytronics tri-chorus.
I had the CE-2W which was fantastic. I can only wonder what this is like compared to the CE-2W
DC-2W smokes the CE-2W. I've had CE-2 Silver Screws from the 80s and the CE-2W is the worst of the bunch.

Wendy seems to prefer the CE-2
Helix has this
The only chorus better than the DC-2W is the Roland Jazz Chorus.
Four years ago I was dying to get a CE-2WC, but I would up paying $380 for an open-box JC22. It might be one of my most fortuitous purchases.
You forgot to combine the modes.
These MOR chorus sounds were all over the place in the 80s. Brrrrr. I hated it.

Yup, and Dimension technically is not a chorus, and when you change the context away from 80s you hear its distinct personality
