Dang, I should have thought about that. At 72, it's getting harder all the time. Hadn't thought about extending my arms. I have tried grabbing the crankset. Can't wait to try this on my trike before it gets too cold for me to ride. Thanks!

I put my trike in park and then as standing up I push up with the top of my wheels and that steadies me enough to get up. Someday I will get assist bars they seem to work best as well.Great video and I will try your way of getting up the next time I ride thanks for sharing.

The Terra Trike Rover and the TRIOT trikes are the two best for ease of getting on and off them.

We stock a lot of trikes from Catrike, ICE, HP Velotechnik, TerraTrike, Greenspeed and Hase that are easy to get on and off of.

A good solution to a common problem. Funny how I never thought of that myself!

When parking 'in the wild', aim the trike downhill (if convenient). This will act as if the seat has been raised a tad.

Great vid. I only wish that you had mentioned the assist bars that you can get for many if not most trike models. Another technique that I was using was to push off the seat with one hand behind me and stretch out the other hand like you did. Knee issues are the hard part... about half or more of the folks I know that ride trikes transitioned to them due to knee or other health challenges.

At 73 years young and 300 lbs., this is an issue. I used to grab the top of the tire(no fenders) for support and then I bought the helping handles from Rolf. They give enough support for exit/entry, although I try not to put my full weight on them and still do some leaning forward.

Hi Randy, That is an ICE Adventure 26. It is a great trike and very comfortable. You can view it on our website at hostelshoppe.com/ICE-Adventure-26-Fast-Track-38895/ . Email me at jessie@hostelshoppe.com if you have any questions.

How utterly ridiculous!!! You obviously don’t have titanium knees that won’t bend past a certain point, I DO!!!
You obviously haven’t had seven major back surgeries ending up with a fused spine from L5 to S1, I DO!!!
Your video makes me very angry!!! You make no mention of why the recumbent was made in the first place which is for people like me, not you who is obviously mobile enough to ride an upright bike, I CANNOT!!!
I get on and off my Greenspeed my way which is the ONLY way I can and it’s nothing like you are showing.

We certainly aren't trying to upset anyone. This video is just one of the many ways you can get on and off a trike. Of course, it will be different for someone who has different needs. We offer stand up aids and recommend different trikes with higher seats for people with disabilities and also show people in the store various other methods. The previous owner of the store, who made this video, is retired now and was just trying to address questions from certain customers at the time.

You need to qualify that in the video then, that this is just one of many ways to sit and rise from a recumbent position. The recumbent trikes we have were born out of need by a patient of a physiotherapist who used to ride but due to an accident could no longer ride upright bikes. Thank you for your reply.
