Hey Allen. I love the new conversational format. It makes for a nice relaxing watch. Keep up the great work! I've learned a ton over the last few years and am really appreciating the Yard Mastery products. You are building a great business.
I started following LCN in January when I began my St. Augustine lawn rehab and on my way to becoming a 100% DIYer. This last week, I had someone stop in their car to compliment me on my lawn. They asked me what I do to make it look so good. I simply said I follow the Lawn Care Nut on TH-cam and encouraged them to start watching Allyn’s videos. Being able to share your knowledge is even more satisfying than having a beautiful lawn. Hopefully, I just helped someone become a DIYer of their own.
I am really enjoying the new format! My grandparents lived in Ellenton, FL. Always loved visiting them. My grandpa and I would do chores together and run errands for grandma, all the while talking about everything under the sun… you’re new “walk and talk” format is so familiar and nostalgic for me.
I followed this procedure on Friday. We had a solid week of rain up over here in Montana by Glacier National Park. Very wet mow with a sharp blade and blew the clippings evenly into the lawn. It's beautiful again! Thanks Alan! 💯 ✌
My head almost exploded when I saw you did a collab with Matt, I’m a HUGE O.G. devotee but the funny dance while cutting grass and the side discharge nickname had me CRYING😂. Oh and you’re making me dominate my street, thanks LCN/Yard Mastery crew!
This video comes at a perfect time for me. I am also a Floridian and was stricken with Covid so I haven't been able to mow in over a week. Also curious why not bag the clippings, here the city picks up the bagged clippings.
Video helped a lot. Had to get my toenail pulled off and couldn’t get anything done for a bit. Then it rained like mad here non stop for a week and I couldn’t do anything about it. Mine is half way to knee-high but I’m going to attack it in two hits. One to get it down to “overgrown” then wait a little and do what you’ve done here.
I missed my midweek mow this week as well. I spent my day off Wednesday sitting on the back porch watching it rain. Honestly, it was a very relaxing day, but I knew I’d have some tall grass this weekend. By tall, I mean my 1.5inch zoysia was maybe 2.5 in its tallest spots. So nothing like what you had. First cut side discharge and second cut mulched and mow were back in business.
I'm loving my Toro Timecutter 50" for exactly this reason. It's gotten to the point where I'm mowing every other day and thanks to my zero turn, I can knock it out in about 20 minutes.
I went on a week long vacation when I usually mow 2 times per week. I mow taller in the summer and use this time to my advantage for the lawn to grow higher, but this year was longer so I cut 1 notch lower. I had to go over it 5 times. Twice with the bag to clean it up. Now when I come back it will have grown up to my 4.5 inch mowing height and I haven't broken the 1/3 rule
Great video, when you're cutting with the zero turn. If you are cutting at 5 on your next cut raise the deck one notch, then go back over it. This will break it up faster then you can blow any extra clumps which will be a lot less. Thanks
Hey Allyne! I'm having some issues with my lawn, hoping you might be able to help. Cool season turf and my front lawn is separated by a concrete walk way. One half of the turf looks great! Following everything you say, couldn't be happier! The other half ism8xed with 60-70% brown and 30-40% green. Thought it was over watering so I cut back to watering 1 to 2 times a week in the AM, got a little better, then noticed it looked like brown patch, there were mushrooms growing and applied bioadvanced, looked a little better. I had applied a 24-0-9 fertilizer back in mid spring, as well as post emergent herbicide about a month later. Pulling at the grass and it seems to hold well, doesn't not come up easily. I know I'm getting towards dormancy, however the other half of the lawn still looks great, so I'm kind of confused. Hoping it's ok to contact you here. Any help would be great!
@@joeljohnson5657 I think I figured it out. Watered for avout 30 minutes per usual. Wait avout 30 minutes again to let the water drip down the soil. I have a soil probe and on the good side it had a great looking dark soil. The other side was kind of hard to push down and when I looked at where the water had gotten to it was may e an 1/8 of an inch in the soil. I think it means I have dry spot. 😕 So my plan of attack is to get some liquid humic acid and aerate. Look at your soil after watering it....might be the same issue.
That's funny... I just raised my Toro the extra 1/4" on Friday and mowed. Mowed again today (Sunday) with a used Snapper I picked up today at 4". Going to raise the deck if I can to get it about 4 1/4 or 4 1/2 for those mows like this. I too have a mix of Floratam and Palmetto.

Great video AL! Thanks for the bottle of Greene Charge, threw it down yesterday along with some Greene Effect I had on my front lawn and it's gonna look amazing in a few days
Hey from Palm Harbor. Al, that was some SERIOUSLY tall S.A.! Up here it was like all the rain suddenly caught up with us... coupled with the recent final dosing of fert to meet the black out and it was like a rubber band snapping back. Green and thick... you will never hear me complain about that. Good tip on dealing with the cobbers on the pool cage. I don't mind the spiders, it's the webs that are annoying. cut once, then let the clumps dry in the sun for a bit. cut again a few notches higher and it’ll blow away way more than when it’s super freshly cut and wet. then mow lower and repeat, or do what you did it came out awesome! but waiting between cuts helps it dry out and fly further and crack/break up into smaller pieces easier 👍🏻

I cut at the highest setting but I’m still close to the crowns and exposing too much light green!! I have St Augustine but I’m in Australia so we call it Buffalo. Thanks!!
Allyn, I have a two weeks vacation coming in and I am worrying about my grass. What are your thoughts about 1-2 weeks before, start lowering your cut to maybe 3 1/4” tall (letter E)? So when I come back, maybe I don’t cut way too much.

Because mulching the clippings back into lawn returns nutrients to the soil and is good for the grass!
