While out urban exploring I once spoke to a security guard who was working at an old abandoned Seminary where students once learned to be priests. The security guard was not religious nor did he believe in the paranormal. However, while working this job he would often notice dark shadows walking past the cameras on his CCTV monitors and when he went inside to investigate, he always found nothing. He also claimed to hear disembodied voices in the building as well as hymns being sang in the old chapel. I reminded him of what he had previously said about there being no such things as ghosts, etc but he was adamant about the things he saw and heard and it scared him so much that he refused to enter the building by himself, especially at night. Other security guards working at this site also backed up what he said because of their own experiences while working there.

Here in Ireland, a seanchaí (shan a key) or story teller has always been very prized. They'd pass on folk stories, legends and even oral laws. No gimmicks, just mesmerising stories to hold the listener spellbound. This guy is definitely a seanchaí.
In the virtual world of Second Life, there is a place called Seanchai Library where very talented voice actors tell wonderful stories. I was honored to be allowed to do a Halloween reading there many years ago. They meet every Tuesday evening.
What I like about Ballen is that he doesn't explain the story formally. It's like he's telling you a story like he's your good old friend, I love that.
My mom worked in the Capital Theater and it scared her so much, especially in the basement. She said it was ominous and dark. Thanks for covering it cuz I think it helped validate her feelings.
I've heard stories, it was cool to see this and learn more. I moved down South years ago before they started construction on the freeways. I swear Utah County is a hotbed for paranormal activity ás I've rented numerous places that have shown activity,
Most places I have been ( which isn't that many tbh) seem to have a memory. If you pay attention, it's like big or traumatic events leave an impression on a place and then when you go to or near by that place you can pick up on it. Sometimes you can see things, hear things ( most common in my opinion), and sometimes even smell things that have happened there before. I usually find it interesting unless it interferes with the reason why I'm there. It's like the place wants you to know it's story.
My capitol theatre caught fire in 1926 and a fireman was killed in it. People think he haunts the theatre now because of paranormal experiences and stuff. I think I read about the hauntings in a book or something once which is weird because I live in a pretty unknown city.

@@luciq1007 the window was down and that night in particular was just very off. Things started going awry around 12:15 am that night. My patrol area is on the north west side of the property. I have to patrol a minimum twice a night 20 communities, with 9 pool checks 1200 homes 3 inner gated community checks, 2 apartment complexes and one assisted living retirement center. All along a 4 mile stretch of main road that all these communities branch out from. Well I had started on the south end that night and at the end of one of those I go down to a half finished cul-de-sac pull a u turn and then move out to the next community. At this cul-de-sac I was suddenly surrounded by fog. On my patrol vehicle I have spot lights on my light bar. I turned the one on to the right and the fog was so thick I could see past 3 feet from the car door. But I could see that it was swirling in a big circle right in front of the passenger side open window. I got out and walked to that door to see what it smelled like.. maybe it was smoke and not fog. I couldn't smell anything but I could see the swirls now farther away from into a person, a human silhouette in the fog itself. I felt uneasy and put my hand on my gun, undoing the first safety on my holster as I backed up around the car to the driver side, got in and drove away never taking my eyes off that figure. I turned left out of that community and went into one of the apartment complexes. I have to drive down through the parking lot and the first one is a dead end. This is where I came across the black eyed girl. As I came down the parking lot she was sitting on a parking curb on the left side between suvs directly above her was a light pole that has not worked since that night. But that night it illuminated right where she was sitting. She had a cell phone in her hand but there was no light coming from the phone to illuminate her face. My windows are open all the time during my shift unless it's storming or raining. So I said hello to her. She looked up at me. She wasn't a child she was a young woman, about 20 or so. Attractive, she was pale skin, with black hair wearing all black and as her eyes met mine they were black. I am the distance equivalent to a mid size car trunk to hood there was no white to her eyes. And she moved her mouth as if to say hello but nothing came out. I went all the way to the dead end, asit hooked 90 degrees and I could pull a u turn. At this location I could see between the suvs where she should have been sitting except she wasn't there. Until I came back around, just as the suv stopped blocking my view there she was again still sitting on the parking curb she stared at me unblinking as I drove by and again this sense of I am in danger came over me. So instead of finishing my patrol of that neighborhood I went back to the entrance hung a left and raced 3 miles down to the other side of my patrol zone. I drove 50 mph 3 and a half miles and just before I get to the north side of the property with an armed entry gate guard I see an open construction gate, and I shine my spot light at it and there she was standing next to the gate looking at me as I drove by looking at me like... you know you have to close this. At that point I said f this. I went through for 3 hours I would not get out of my car for anything. One other strange thing happened that night.. it was about a month ago... the day after I first commented I discovered my father had died in a car accident... I now believe that everything that happened that night was an omen of what was to come.

I would be very intrigued, seems like the spirit was trying to get attention, not terrify the living. Its very sad to me. Has anyone tried to communicate with and help this lost soul? I doubt its demonic and the coughing? how terrible the way he died, "still reliving" it. '
Of course it was a ghost. What else could it possibly be? Nothing else makes sense, nothing else checks all of the boxes. At some point, you have to quit trying to pound square pegs into round holes and accept that in a very few cases, something outside of our usual understanding is happening.
I'm a retired police officer, and usually we work off-duty details as security for extra income. The freakiest place I ever pulled off-duty security for was an old junkyard near a swamp. Nothing paranormal happened, but the mist that comes off the water at 2 or 3 in the morning, along with the shadows and weird sounds is enough to set anyone on edge. Additionally, we have to search many buildings in the middle of night in the performance of our duties, and the creepiest buildings were always big industrial facilities with many large open areas with machinery and then a large office area. People would be surprised at just how many shadows a single flashlight can throw around.
I have been a police officer for over three decades and in that time have experienced some weird things. Crackheads, gang bangers, command staff, stuff like that. Anyway, on Thanksgiving Day, 2005, my partner and I responded to a possible burglary in progress at a local library, which was closed for the holiday. There were motion detectors within the building and something had been detected in the basement. Upon arrival we made entry into the building and crept down into the basement, which was a large, well lit area. All the doors were closed and locked. We then sliced the pie into a hallway which leads off the main basement area into the mechanical room. As we eased around corner at the end of the hall there was a person in black pants and black hoodie with his/her/its back turn to us. He appeared to be reading a bulletin board with with safety brochures attached. Reading safety brochures? Who does that? He's too far away to give commands to so we need to get closer. We start creeping down the hall on this person who just keeps reading the brochures. I feel like I'm in the scene in Ghostbusters where they sneak up on the librarian ghost. Just as we're about to issue the normal commands he spins around and is wearing a black ski mask. He then runs into (please don't run into the mechanical room) the mechanical room and into (please don't run into the tunnel system) tunnel system underneath this complex. We have no radio contact underground and this guy can run like a antelope. Luckily, my partner could run like a cheetah and was on him like a spider monkey. After a brief struggle we took him into custody and secured him in my patrol car. My vehicle was equipped with a video recording camera which was aimed at the backseat to record the prisoner, for his safety and mine. Upon arrival at the jail, I got out and secured all my gear in the trunk, took our little goblin into book-in and was done with him. When I got back in my car I always check the recording to see if the prisoner did something stupid. In the video he is sitting there and you can see me open the trunk. He then leans over towards the camera with an insane chuckle and says, "the swordsman is coming." Then leans back and looks normal again. Overall it was a strange occurrence. Four years later at a diner we had a guy approach our table and say "the swordsman is coming" and then walk away. Four days later one of our officers almost had to shoot a sword-wielding nutbar. Ah, the joys of law enforcement.

The guy who died in the fire was Richard Duffin and he was 17. It's quite sad. He was working at the theatre as manager (of something), and a fire broke out in the basement so 4 workers, one being Richard, went to check it out and three ran away from it but Richard got trapped and died due to smoke inhalation.

I find it funny on movies were they show 2 or 1 priest taking on a possessed person, taking on the demon they make it look so easy when it's not. Jesus apostles all of them couldn't even take on a possessed person so Jesus had to take over and those demons called themselves Legion meaning there was alot of them and they went into those pigs and those pigs jump off of the cliffs so I find it funny when they show that stuff.

@@michellehaberman5918 gosh, that’s always heartbreaking. To die without any loved ones to wonder where you are and why they’ve not heard from you? That’s really sad. I remember a story about a woman who was found dead in her condo TWO YEARS AFTER SHE DIED. She had money in the bank and all of her bills were on autopay. It wasn’t until her bank account ran out and she became ‘delinquent’ on her utilities that people started asking questions. Even more heartbreaking was that she was on her couch, a couch that was near her Christmas tree that had a few still-wrapped presents. They were clearly meant for someone, so how was she dead for two years without anyone knowing it?! That poor woman truly had no one in her life that cared for her. I hope that the afterlife is treating her with far more love and kindness than the real world did.

I used to dance at that theater when I was a kid, and some nights rehearsals would go fairly late. I used to always have a recurring dream about being chased through the theater by a burned person, and thought I was crazy. It wasn't until one of the other dancers and I were in the changing room during a late night performance that he turned to me and asked if I had seen the ghost at that theater. It scared the hell out of me when he described the ghost that had been in my nightmares, but then we started noticing doors opening and closing on their own during the evening performances when we were in the basement. I stopped dancing there pretty soon after.

I lived in Salt Lake most of my life and used to do a lot of ghost hunting. Capital Theatre is definitely haunted. The man that was mentioned, I can't recall his name at the moment, he likes.being acknowledged when people are in the theater. So when you go there at night you're supposed to say Hello. If you greet and acknowledge him he doesn't cause trouble. I wonder if these officers didn't know that or didn't believe and the spirit made sure they noticed him.
I’m pretty sure this is a demon decieving people into thinking it’s a person that died. It makes sense that they would run to where someone died and steal his identity so to speak and terrorize people

I swear Utah County is a hotbed for paranormal activity ás I've rented numerous places that have shown activity,
I feel like every capital theatre has these kinds of things. The one where I live does too
Most places I have been ( which isn't that many tbh) seem to have a memory.
I’ve heard the one in Wheeling WV has some weird shit going on too
My capitol theatre caught fire in 1926 and a fireman was killed in it. People think he haunts the theatre now because of paranormal experiences and stuff. I think I read about the hauntings in a book or something once which is weird because I live in a pretty unknown city.
I love the way he tells these stories with such sharp details.

Don't crack windows or open doors for black eyed kids..

I work in a theatre in New Mexico and we have a ghost that hangs in the back stairwell to the spot booth.
You too good at telling these stories. Makes me think I’m here with them and gets my heart racing also keep up the kick ass work.

It would be cool if he used hi tech audio equipment set up in this theater to capture the whispering used at the 8 minute mark. But even still hes definitely the best audible storyteller Ive found worth listening too. Sort of makes others attempts at doing the same thing futile. Mr. Ballen = Super Bowl Champions Starting QB Vs. Everybody Else = Jr. Varsity Bench Warmers/Waterboy!
It reminded me of the simulator schizophrenia. I have had to pit those headphones on twice for training and it freaks me out every time.
I’m addicted to this channel. And thank you for your service in the armed forces sir. You deserve a Netflix series
Nah hulu like buzz feed unsolved
Ballen does really need a Netflix Show
I couldn't agree more
He is just sitting here talking. I have tried to look up information on some of these "stories" and there is nothing out there. I think this is just creepy pasta.
@@RonnieDobbz1978 Funny, can't find these on creepy pasta, which means he's getting them from somewhere.. *cough* real stories.

"he quit that day" finally someone i can relate in this kinda stories
I knew a guy who was an Aberdeen, MD police officer for one day. He didn’t quit because of demons or ghosts, but because he and his trainer found a very decomposed corpse behind a gas station in the heat of July. You can imagine how bad it smelled and looked, and that was it for him. No idea what he’s doing nowadays, but hopefully he’s doing well.
I was a property manager for several apartments and homes when I got a call from a tenant that several days ago, they heard a thump, and now there is a bad smell. It was July, no air conditioning. Poor man had a heart attack. It is one smell you never, ever forget. Hats off to people who clean that type of thing up.
@@michellehaberman5918 slightly amending my comment - she did have people who cared about her but she had, for a reason unknown to us, cut contact with them. She was two years behind on her house payment and her skeletal remains were found when the bank went to repossess the property for non-payment. Here’s the link to her wiki page if you want to read it.

As we were as DEA agents with 7th gathering intelligence of drug n human, military arms trafficking while in Central/South America. Way back in the early 80s. We generally would carry Vicks Vapor stick whenever we examined dead corpses often. Odly enough, after 40 years later, I still carry one in my pocket. These stories scared the monsters under my bed away. Thanks, Mr. Ballen. Way to go!

The moment he said the Capital Theatre in SLC Utah, I seriously dropped what I was doing and had to sit down. I was about to take a job at the Theatre as a Ticket Shift Manager but ultimately didn't because of the commute. This is honestly one of the most surreal moment of my life.

I absolutely 💯 love the picture backdrop. My grandparents who raised me use to have an old junk car on the side of their property and I loved playing in it as a child in the 60’s. Thank you 🙏🏽 Mr. BALLEN for sharing your AMAZING STORIES.
I was lying in bed listening, and completely creeped out by what's in the elevator, and my cat jumped from above onto my shoulders. I am glad I go to the gym every day or I don't think my heart would have survived that shock. You have a real gift, MrBallen!
I think the cat should get some credit too!
I've worked security in a few buildings and elevators often have minds of their own
They come down opening up without anyone inside and moving around on their own
Quite a few places have set levels for the elevator to rest on so that is often the reason
Like say there's 2 side by side elevator in a 10 story building, one will always rest on the lobby or bottom and the other at 5 or a midway point. And they usually swap positions when one goes up or down.
Haven't had any stay open longenough for the thing to have alarm go off or yell about something blocking the door but have seen a few reopen as if someone stuck their foot in it to catch the door
As he was talking about the door slamming shut my brother dropped a chair. Scared the crap out of me.
Oh my twin used to know qhen I was watching these and he would just creepy open my door and stare though the door! And our house was haunted as fuck! Speaking of cooperation, me and a friend of mine saw an apparition of a girl walk down the hall at a hospital in Philadelphia. She walked down the hall and disappeared into the wall near the nurses station. Both our jaws dropped when we witnessed this. I will never ever forget that experience...
Is that a functional hospital or an abandoned hospital?
@@shelivesforjesussame742 functional
That's interesting! I too (i think) had a strange experience when I'm working night shift. I was alone in my office working as usual, then i heard the office door opened a bit and closed repeatedly. But that only occur when I'm not looking at the door. My co-workers also said the same thing happened to him when he was scheduled for night shift, he even saw a dark/burned figure peeking at him from the glass door.
I would have stopped dancing there right then and there. Nope. Not going in there again. Ever.

I've been in this theater when I was in school in Salt Lake. Something always felt off whenever you were even slightly alone. I never knew about this
I lived in Salt Lake most of my life and used to do a lot of ghost hunting.
@@witchyarch his name was shorty he hung himself in the 30s i think
