    I also live in Kansas and plant my Peppers and Tomatoes around the first week of May (5/3). When I first started gardening I started my peppers and tomatoes WAY too early and was worried about them getting root bound in the containers before I could transplant them outdoors. I realized if I leave them in the containers for too long I have to water them everyday because the plants absorb the water so fast and about twice a day when I’m accumulating them to the outdoor elements by hardening them off a week or so before I transplant them. After a few years of gardening I realized my containers that are 3.5”x3.5”x4” (LxWxH) gives me about 8 weeks from starting Pepper seeds (3/8) and 6 weeks from starting Tomato seeds (3/22) before transplanting outdoors. If anyone is a new to gardening id recommend doing some test planting in your containers to see how long it takes for them to get to transplanting size and then subtract the weeks from the date you plan on transplanting them outdoors.

    I would love to see a diagram of how you are "placing" your plants this year. I would also like to see how you plan on replacing the plants when they are finished for the season. I am struggling with plant placement. I have some 4x8 beds where I'm not sure if I should plant 4 tomatoes down the middle with room for flowers and peppers on the sides or plant the tomatoes on one side and peppers and flowers on the other.

    I love to dice up sweet peppers and freeze them. I toss them into anything from chili to tacos to soups to eggs. Bonus points if I freeze them mixed with diced onions. I also toss spicy peppers in the food processor and freeze them in ice cube trays to toss in the same kinds of dishes for some extra flavor.

    1:36 same, my average last frost date is April 17-19 but I don’t plant out frost tender until May 1st. I learned my lesson my first year of gardening when we had a late frost and I wasn’t home to cover my plants. I was heartbroken.

    I’ve germinated my seeds for many years now, in wet coffee filters, sealed in plastic sandwich bags. They germinate almost twice as fast than in the dirt. Tomatoes germinate in 4-6 days and peppers 6-7 days. Then I move to my pots when green leaves are starting to emerge from the seed. You ensure every one you plant is successful. It’s much more fun to me, putting a live seedling into my starter pots. I feel like I’m a botanist. 😂 But you do have a much bigger gardens than I do, so maybe too time consuming for you to do.

    Try Carmen peppers, (a bulls horn shape) it’s a hybrid. Wish it was an heirloom to save the seeds but they’re so good I don’t care. Very productive and super sweet when red, way sweeter than a red bell pepper. They can get thick walled too. This is the first year I’m not growing bells anymore, after 30 years of growing them. Carmen is so much better flavor. I’ve Been doing both for years and realized I like the Carmen way better. If you don’t want a hybrid, try a Marconi it’s an heirloom. Trying Marconi this year too. I want to see if it compares to the Carmen pepper.

      Seeds are getting so expensive. Going to try to save seeds this year. Never really saved seeds. Almost all my plants this year, are heirloom or open pollinated so I can do that this year. Hope it works.

    How often are you planning to fertilize your garlic? Im asking about both the nitrogen & the phosphorous applications. Once per week? Monthly? Thanks

    • @itsbreellis
      @itsbreellis  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Its been a 3-4 week thing in the past. Really depends on what you use. The fish and seaweed I mentioned can be applied every 7-14 days. I will probably only feed with bone meal ( phosphorous ) 1-2 times. If I use blood meal for nitrogen again it will be around the same. We are currently about 4 months until harvest around here, and I will cut back feeding for that last 3-4 weeks when scapes appear. Hope that helps!

      @itsbreellis  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It will depend on what you use. The stuff Im currently using the fish and seed weed is a every 7-14 day thing. Other liquid fertilizers would be closer to 3-4 weeks. and Nope I didnt, I was testing that out and they all germinated perfect!

    • @itsbreellis

      They are bootstrap farmers 3.3in pots. Typically if I use a nursery pot my preferred size is around 3inches. These ones are nice because they are also deep! Theres a link to bootstrap farmer in the description! If your curious about anything else seed starting I probably mention it in this video - th-cam.com/video/WemJA_uH3eA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UnuSzDE8_dIv0FLA
