My first deployment in the Navy (P3C), was to Kadena, Okinawa.
It was really cool seeing the SR71 roll by my birds, and then watch it take off. It was pretty amazing to see the rain move across the runway, with everything behind in just disappearing. This is were I learned I liked friedrice and yakysoba, and of course I also experienced the Drinky Girls, and watched the shows at the bars outside of the gate.
During this deployment I also made my first R&R to Olongapo, Philippines.

I married for 30 years, it was not easy. I tried my best, but now I want to live free. I am the same age as you ABC, free is the way.

One positive about being comfortable with yourself is you never get lonely. I have been here 2 years and other than Filipinas I am basically to myself. I am currently going to Thailand for a few months, traveling is my hobby. The Philippines is a great country to live in but if you’re not comfortable with yourself you maybe want to think hard about moving to Asia alone.

@@acebachelorcool I leave next week, rented a condo on Jomtien beach area. Aeras condominiums near immigration. I think I might do the 5 year visa they offer as I am here under srrv visa which is awesome and I highly recommend it to you. If you travel to Thailand give me a text maybe go for a beer on their walking street. Which is so much better it’s unreal.

Ace my first time in PI was 1983, as a sailor , true the military got me into over 30 countries, PI and Cambodia has the easiest cheapest retirement visa, If I moved overseas Thailand was my first choice as we were going there for a month every year but the visa cost are high and now they want to tax foreigners, The islands of PI would be my choice, no Angeles STD central.
Ace, did you try the San Miguel beer delivery I mentioned? Order online direct from SMB. To your doorstep. First order I would order a case of Red Horse, case of San Miguel (reg) and a case of San Miguel light. (Puts you on good standing w/SMB) . They come and get the empties the next order. Next order try the San Mig apple. I like it as a change of pace, also if you have a lady friend over, she may like it. Hmmm I think claiming that Philippines is great weather 6 months out of year is a bit of a stretch heh heh. Hot as heck!!! Lots to love about SE Asia but wow the weather is really hot and humid throughout the year. One gets used to it eventually of course though.
In the Philippines you can live without a jacket.

Yeah, I kinda wondered about the Professor's rosy characterization of Philippine weather. But I granted him a dispensation because of all the places where he lived, basically lands with harsh winters. So for someone like Ace Philippine weather is literally paradise (most of the time).
@@dave-d-grunt I did a deployment to Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean where it’s 96 degrees and 95% humidity. We had a detachment down to Australia, midway through the deployment, during their winter and the temp was in the mid 70s, and I learned to drink hot tea with cream from their NCO lounge.
It’s amazing what you can get used to.

Being in the military is cool as long as you get posted to Thailand, Philippines or Japan. Knowing my luck, I'd get sent to Iraq or Syria. Different kind of boom boom.
Disagree on the outdoors. I've lived in multiple countries and in over 10 places in the US being military and the Philippines is the least amenable to being active outdoors due to the constant heat and humidity from 9 am to 9 pm. I actually can't think of a place that is less friendly to staying fit and activenoutdoors than the Philippines.
My step count dropped from 400K per month before moving to the Philippines to 150K here in the Philippines.
You have to get out and climatize. I lived there for 8 years. I arrived in August so by the time the hot season came around i was well climatized. No AC in those days. The houses were mostly wood with a lot of ventilation. Now days the places are hollow block with zero ventilation.
@@dave-d-grunt I'm young, fast metabolism, even very lean with a 9% bf I get hot and dehydrate easily. I lived in Hawaii and Mexico City which have like ideal weather.. PH during the day is ridiculous. I hear when you're older your metabolism slows down so that's why guys 60+ like it
@@wanderingdoc5075 I was living there when in my early twenties. I went back in 2019 in the middle of May. Thought I was gonna die! One of those days it was the hottest day of the year! It’s like everything else, different things for different people.
@@dave-d-grunt Yeah well said. I spent 2 years in Bethesda Maryland, hella expensive but literally just hot for one month and cold for one month, 10 months perfect weather for outdoors. And then spent 2-3 months in CDMX, 1800m elevation, 10 - 24°C year round.
I present to you Antartica as the least amenable to being active outdoors
