I was in the airwing, my A and C school roommate/classmate was a scout/sniper dropout. he had already done SOI and failed the swim qual at little creek. For a guy that wanted to be a sniper, he did pretty good in electronics classes. we all had 5 year active duty contracts but he had a 4 year since he signed up as infantry. our schools were about 1.5 years so he got out pretty quickly after joining the fleet. They have very different rifles than we used in the 60's and early 70's doing the same thing in Vietnam. M16, M14, and either a Remington 700 or a Winchester 70. Their optics are way more sophisticated than we had. The Starlight scope on an M16 was your night vision system. You had to have a 0300 MOS and qualify as expert. You then got got your 8541MOS added on.
Our MOS was 8541 back in 1984 in Scout Sniper School at Camp LeJeune. We shot a Remington bolt action rifle model 700 with a free floating “Sniper” barrel. Our rounds were a .308 match round. Our sidearm was a 1911. Good times. Semper Fi.

It used to be that you couldn’t enlist and go to Scout/Sniper school. You had to complete an enlistment as an O3, then reenlist. A lot of the Special Forces were this way as well. My understanding is that they’ve had difficulties with the quality of applicants since they got away from this.
@Rami Hajjar, There is no difference between the Shooter and the Spotter. Both are Scout Snipers from the same Unit. It's simply for a particular mission, one is chosen to carry the Sniper Rifle and the other is chosen to Spot for him.

But not always. The shooter is only the triggerman and the spotter gives the shooter the dope and wind correction, coriolis effect , distance and target designation etc. that does not mean the shooter does not know what he is doing. They are both excellently trained. Especially the scout snipers. once the team is in position they may swop shooter, spotter every 15 to 30 minutes depending on the conditions, heat or if they are using night vision etc. This is how we did it in the old South African military. I am unsure if they do this in the American military though

@@garynelson9538 we swopped duties every 15 to 30 minutes to prevent eye strain when looking through the scope and or night vision. One would observe and the other rest and then swop back and forth. If something interesting was spotted both would look and monitor what was happening. This way we could stay and play for a few days if needed. We were mostly used to find and observe terrorist bases so we needed to find out info like how many terrs in the base, what uniforms were worn, what time the food was served what time they got up, what time they went to bed. Were there guards and what were the roots the guards walked if there were visitors and how alert was the base etc etc. my longest stint on a base like that was two weeks. We then called in fire-force and blew the bejesus out of the base. I still have all my observation notes and drawings from all my missions. Be aware this was in the early 80s and our night vision was I think Gen 2 at the time.

it's all training. ...and lots of it. Back in the day, they mixed MOA and mils and that was a beast for calculation because of the conversions. Regardless, training, training, and (you guessed it) more training. Then it becomes second nature. Just like a second language, the more you do it, the easier it gets. ...and then train some more
some simple addition/subtraction and multiplication. Look up the Mils reticle system and that's the crux of the math you'll have to do. There's some more for other stuff but if you can master mils you can handle the rest

Can't say except you have to pull your stock weld to run a right hand bolt with your right hand, plus left hand shooting with a rh bolt minimizes excessive movement that can give you away. Makes sense to me, so does a lot of lefties lol

if you mean them shooting at that little speed boat, there's no one on board. thats a training tool to practice shooting moving targets at sea, whether pirates or Iranian attack boats or drug runners (for coats guard), its a vital skill for snipers deployed on the water.
Easy to say. It's been 4 months are you in boot camp yet? I was going to go into the Marines, but the recruiter told me I had to go into the Navy to do the job I wanted. So I went into the Navy and became a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman. Yea you have to go into the Navy to be a Marine medic. It was good times.

군대서 연대 직속대루 나갓는데 미해병 스나이퍼 대단합니다.소변 보러 논쪽으로 갓는데 100여미터 되는데서 뭐가 꿈틀 거리길래 소대장 불러서 가봣는데 컥 역시나 스나이퍼 엿습니다. 그때는 스나이퍼가 뭔지도 몰랏는데 영어 잘하는 소대장이 통역 해줘서 알앗습니다.
저격수 화이팅 근데 전쟁이엿쓰면 저한테 발견되 나는 죽는거고 스나이퍼두 위험해 질수이겟죠? 그게 어언 35년전인가 아른거리네요.

I said that then watched closer and everyone is moving their face to clear the bolt. There goes my theory.
At 1:02 and 1:14, shots taken, rifle doesn't recoil, ejects live rounds (watch v-e-r-y closely at slow speed. I want a rifle like that!
