    Tune in as Mrs. Wax Pack Gods reads about 1972 Topps Baseball Cards.
    Has there ever been a better cardboard representation of an era than the psychedelic funk 1972 Topps baseball cards dropped on collectors way back when?
    I mean, here you had wild colors … starburst team names … arched borders … mutton chops and handlebars and fu manchus and long hair and afros and chest hair like shag carpet even if you couldn’t really see it.
    You knew it was there.
    Add in superstars and rookies and Hall of Famers and a huge checklist and scarce high numbers, and you have a set that’s stoked collectors for decades.
    So which of these classic cards are the most valuable?
    Glad you asked …

      One of my first favorites, along with 1975. The '72 photos are beauties!

    I applaud the effort, hobby knowledge, and passion for baseball that went into the script for this video. It was very well written.

    Great segment! I used to have TONS of these cards. 1972 was the last year I really collected. We used to play a game called "colors' where a few of us would sit down and each put down a card. When someone's color matched the color of the card on top, they took the pile. It could get exciting and you could come away with a lot of cards.. I still have some of these, like Mays, Clemente, and Aaron. I used to have a few of the Nolan Ryan. No more, lol. But the 1972 set for me, is one that as time has gone on, has truly become a classic.

      That sounds like a fun game -- might have to give it a try if I can find a willing participant and a few '72s for sacrifice. Thanks for the tip!

      We used to each bet a similar priced cards. What we would to is one guy flips his card and the 2nd guy would have to match it . Stats side or "heads" the player side. We would flip the commons and just lay the good ones on the table . Some of the cards were pretty hefty price wise Great times

    • @jga59
      @jga59 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zebraallday8332 The way we would flip mostly was by two people flipping at the same time and calling odds or evens. You could also flip with 3 people, and the odd card would win the other flippers' cards. We also would play "farthies" where we would take the corner of the card between our middle and index finger and fling it as far as we could. Whoever's card went the furthest won. Like you say, great times!

    Rusty Staub was traded from the Expos to the Mets, but there isn't a card from him from either team in 1972. Weird.

    absolute classic. i think the 75 set competes with 72 as the perennial 70s set. took me a solid year to complete the set and i compiled a nice representation of this monster of a set. the high numbers were a bear and there is the usual 70s sketchy centering, but it's a joy to look at

    Just discovered the channel, good content. I did want to mention that Roberto Clemente's last Topps card was actually 1973, not "72

    • @WaxPackGods
      @WaxPackGods  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      "This is Clemente’s last regular Topps card issued before his death in the winter of 1972" -- which it was. The '73 was after his death. Thanks for watching!

      What he did best was hold (swing) a bat. Against the blue sky is where he's holding it on this card. It's all in the parsing.
