  • This is a Shekar brand endoscope with a .21 camera head and a very long cable. Now the image is good, but not great. Will it serve a purpose, absolutely..!!
    Endoscopes or borescopes are a must have for any home gunsmith hobbiest or true gunsmith. But do you need to spend a fortune on a high dollar scope, well that depends on what you are doing. This scope will work great for many things, but not everything. So it's going to be up to you to decide.

    You shoulda used the mirror to see the rifling, machine marks etc. I have a Teslong that cost $70 CDN - about 50 USD - and it's great with the mirror. You can see 'chattering marks' from the button-rifling as well as Copper and Carbon deposits. The video quality is as good as the $500 'big-name' scopes. ONE thing - You must be careful when storing the cable !! It's a 2-part thing with USB section and Fiber-op section - the Fiber-op cable is 'fragile'. My first one 'failed' and I had to get Warranty replacement. This took about a month - from China. Very good CS as they didn't charge for cable or shipping. I now store the new cable just hanging on the wall of my shop, over 2 pegs about 6" apart, the USB cable is about 6 ft long and the Fiber cable is about 4 ft. Keep them hanging straight down, especially the Fiber cable. I have an SKS I just bought and it was totally black with lots of copper streaks. After 'too many to count' patches and brush runs it's now shiny. And gets 2-3 MOA with milsurp.

    I have one. I use it when looking to buy a used gun. it doesn't give you the close up video like a true bore scope does, but you can see if rifling is missing or copper has built up in a spot. I still use my other bore scope when i'm looking at lapping or if I see a strange looking spot I just can't make out with the phone camera. glad to see i'm not the only one with plenty of take off barrels. I have two 5 gallon buckets of take off barrels.

    I also have one like that, it's a AN98A, took 3 weeks to get it from, guess, CHINA. It has a 90 degree, magnet and a hook. Like u said the focus isn't to great put it's ok for $19.98.

    Nice video. Check out the $45 version from Teslong. Seems to have shorter focal length and small mirror.

    Good video on another viable option we shooters have at our disposal. The phone model would be a good thing to keep in our vehicle console so that if we ever end up in a gunstore and find something we like, we can check out the bore. The portability is a virtue. About four years ago I splurged on the Hawkeye. I justified it by how much I load and shoot. I do love it. I remember the first time I saw a piece of bronze bristle brush inside a barrel. It looked like a sixteen penny nail laying in the bottom of a two-inch pipe. When I put the image on my computer screen, tho, the colorization goes away. Copper fouling is easy to see with the naked eye. I use the 90-degree eyepiece. I've been trying to get Phoneskope to make an adapter to fit the eyepiece but so far no luck. Keep those vids coming!

    My endoscope had a unthreaded mirror sleeve. Junk.

    The focal length of that borescope is way too long to examine rifle barrels. I am looking for one of those cheap China borescopes with a short focal length.

    Hey Curt, Did you ever find anything you liked better than this one? Seems like I heard you mention it in a more recent video.

      Bolt Action Reloading I’ll be showing another one that better but it’s about $130 vs $20. But it is nicer and has more capabilities. It’s made by teslong

    I use these kinds of borescopes for maintenance of industrial production machines . Hooks are useful to capture wires, screws or parts that fall down Inside a corner of the machines . What about Lyman borescope and how we use it correctly ?

      I would like to get my hands on a Lyman, but that will have to wait until I save a little more money. Got some other tools I need first.

      I miraculously escaped from a cerebrovascular accident during last March, so I bought a Lyman Borecam, it's great . You can see how are your barrels .

    I was wondering if you can see the throat erosion of the barrel and is the image sharp enough to see the beginning of the rifling by the chamber aera?

    • @derekthegreatgonzo
      @derekthegreatgonzo 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a true bore scope for that.

      derekthegreatgonzo i would like me to but those things are crazy expensive in my country, so if this type of thing could work it should be nice. I would prefer buy some powder and bullets.

      You’d need a side mirror. They have these teslong brands for about $40 that includes the side mirrors.
