I’m trying to get Medicaid. I’m a widow and I’m 60. 5 months ago I transferred my home to my son. I am NOT seeking long term care just regular doctors visits and medication.

Hello Sarah! The 5 years you're mentioning is probably the look-back period. It's a period of time prior to your application in which the Medicaid office will review all of your expenses. If they find any expenses that are not allowed by Medicaid, they might approve your application, but delay the payment of your benefits by a few months or even a year, depending on the size of those expenses. Medicaid recovery means that the Medicaid authorities are entitled to a portion of the Medicaid recipient's estate after their passing. Yes indeed! It's worth knowing that this limit only exists in the main Medicaid application. Community spouse's income is not taken into account in Medicaid renewals. Also, if the applicant spouse isn't going to transfer any income to the community spouse under the spousal impoverishment rules, there is no limit on the community spouse's income.
