Very nice old vehicles here. Good that you included some RTA scenes it also shows the equipment used to recover the vehicles . Interesting to see the London photo's, traffic management. I had relatives in London and back in the 60's parking was possible!! Thanks for sharing this collection Rick. 👍👍

At 17.10 I think the Morris Minor convertible RKB923 is parked on the Honister Pass, looking down towards Buttermere in the Lake District. I'm impressed with your encyclopedic knowledge of cars! The soundtrack is very restful, which together with the photos of yesteryear are a wonderful way to escape the madness of this modern world! I hope you manage to ignore the somewhat uncharitable comments that some people post - keep up the good work!

I grew up with all these cars, and still love every one of them. During the 60s, on a school trip to the Science museum, we travelled up Kings road chelsea. I spotted a Triumph GT6, AND VOWED ONE DAY I WILL HAVE ONE, and i did. 105Es were another favourite.
Thanks for all these lovely pics.

Another fantastic video, I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your narration, I’ve lost count of the interesting facts I’ve gleaned from these photos, in this case Alloy bodied XK 120’s had separate sidelights ! I also enjoy seeing the period accessories fitted to the cars , brings back memories of my childhood. Brilliant video.😊

Thank you for these wonderful photos-some of these cars were a familiar sight on New Zealand roads during the 50s-early 70s,we had a 1959 Humber Hawk as a family car from 67-71 and did a lot of caravan travelling with it,also my Grandfather bought a new Austin A40 for his retirement and kept it until he passed away in 1970 Auckland New Zealand 2022

Thank you, evocative of my childhood back home. First car was an Austin Cambridge that I bought from my father at age 17 upon passing my test in ‘73. Always loved the thick carpet, leather seats and the feeling of that chunky dip switch down by the clutch pedal when pushed on or off.

Great start to the day, I had one of those 'basic' Ford 105e Anglia's back in the day it was about 5 years old from memory and as rotten as a pear ( as the saying went ) the sills , front wings and rear chasis spring hangers had all been attacked by rust and it took hours of work welding the thing to get it roadworthy again.

Great photos again, thanks. Putting on my anorak, that is a 105E deluxe, the 123E paint scheme had a painted flash along the side, and the same second colour only on the roof, not down to the beltline. The chrome trim along the side indicates an MG Midget, and would cause rust under it that didn't affect the Sprite, though of course everywhere rusted on both these lovable little cars. Bentley KMA 900 was originally a factory trials car in Black pearl colour, soon sold to a Mr G B Pollard, and apparently repainted in a lighter colour before this picture, last heard of in 1956.

Marvellous! When I started driving many of these cars were the sort of 'old banger' you'd have as a first car. Maybe not the XK120 although I do have a friend who used a drophead for his window cleaning round in the early '60s!

the American Ford at 20.42 next to the Mini although registered in 1965 is an earlier 1961model. They used to register them the date they came into the country. I had a 66 Ford Galaxie that was "H" registered , 64 Oldsmobile Cutlass "P" reg and a 67 Olds "K"reg. Some yanks still have their out of sequence registrations to this day.

The photo at 8.35 looks very similar to the 1960s Rank Organisation 'Look at Life' series where they featured the British Railways car sleeper service from London to Perth with the idea that it would beat the traffic jams. Based at the Holloway car loading bay a film was made by the film unit in 1963 and titled "Transport The Car Has Wings" Cars cost £20 return, passengers and pets extra!

The photo of the Jag in the foreground and the Austin A40 Somerset on the left with a Vauxhall in the background brings back some memories. My father had the Austin Somerset at that time in the mid fifties and I had a plastic, battery powered scale model of the Vauxhall which was the Wyvern. My dad kept that car until the early 1960´s and it was used everyday for his business purposes. I had initial driving lessons in it and I remember that the column gear change was terrible. Not at all like the slick positive change on a SAAB 96 I owned in later years. The Austin was also very underpowered for quite a heavy car, only 1200 cc, pushrod overhead valve. 0 - 60, probably best use a calendar rather than a stop watch. Maybe just as well, the brakes were likely awful too by today´s standards. My dad actually wound it up to an indicated 70mph on a dual carriage way on a visit we made to Hull prior to moving there to live for a few years.

    • @oldclassiccarUK
      @oldclassiccarUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

The plastic model of the Wyvern was probably made by Victory Industries, they turn up for sale occasionally. Thanks for watching this collection.

fantastic trip in a time machine! One of my mother's friends had an A40 Somerset convertible for many years ,it seemed quite old then! Your Mum and Dad's 100E appears to have Coventry registration? It's strange how an expensively restored car like the Bentley MK6 rarely looks as chased and clean as one freshly made! As you might detect this video is my idea of bliss!!

I recall that that yellow stuff you could paint on your lights was supposed to give better penetration through fog. I don't know whether it actually did. But we did seem to have a lot more fog in the 60s than we do nowadays.

We certainly did have lots of Autumn fog. I lived in Nottingham and the M1 was lit with central reservation street lamps, other motorway sections fog prone were lit as well around the country. Rear fog lamps were introduced on new cars, many fitted aftermarket by owners themselves. There were many horrendous motorway crashes due to fog at the time. I remember the Government introduced road safety public information films shown on TV and in the cinema.

Its a fetish! Little kids with a ladybird book car spotting on a long journey. I had a 1953 A35 with 4 doors and visor. Fucking thing oil on clutch and sediment in block. Nurse from new but sat in garage 20 years. Volvo 121 Amazon estate 1956. 5mpg in traffic jams and shit brakes. Ploughed through snow drifts! Noisy dangerous and lots of maintainance. Give me Tesla please.

It's a fantastic video! I am thinking of reposting your whole channel on the new platform of Gajing World, and your channel link to be added. More viewers can reach your videos for sure! How do you think?
