I looked for two years in Google hopping for someone to tell me what direction was best.. you are the only one that I know of that clearly made it understandable why. I hope youtube monetizes above and beyond🎉
I’m taking notes on the topics you covered here, valuable info! I was walking in knee deep snow today, making a rough outline of where I plan on growing my flower garden. I then drew it out on grid paper but I now see after watching your video that I didn’t leave myself nearly enough room for the walking paths. Great to find that out during the planning stages, whew! Thank you for guiding us in the right direction. I’ll be using your measuring method to make my rows nice and square come Spring, that is one cool idea!
I live around the corner from you and drove by when you were filming this 😆 thanks for all the tips! We moved in two years ago and I can't wait to get a good flower garden going. I love having fresh flowers in the house and am excited for the day when I can just go outside and cut them myself. We're moving the vegetable gardens around and still trying to figure out where we want everything.
Haha you get to watch our wreck in action! If you are looking to add flowers to your vegetable garden I highly recommend the book “vegetables love flowers” by Lisa Ziegler!
I find 2' best for me at 5'7"😅.. a bed I have is 4' and it strains my back. Do what is best for you, it does depend on how far your reach is. Thanks for all these thoughtout tips.
You guys are awesome. I have been reading your blog for the past couple years. This part of the process was boggling my mind and when you explain the 3,4,5 triangle, the light bulb went off. Thank you. Your explanation and walking it out was mega helpful. I am working with an acre field space and plant to erect a hoop house on the North end. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, your blunders and for being human. Would you consider making a tutorial on how to plan out your rows to house succession plantings? There is very little out there on how it physically looks to start rows early season and rotate out your crops. With gratitude and peace from Canada
Thank you for your sweet words name twin! Isn't funny how something can be shown a certain way and it just "clicks"? We're wrecks over here, blunders are kind of our thing, haha! We went into a little bit about succession planning and planting on our VOD from last Wednesday and we also have a blog on it. Maybe we'll show our crop plan on next week's livestream to show how we have our field planned with successions. Hope you join us!
@@sierraflowerfarm Hey name twin :) Yes, you helped with the click!! I am working out the field measurements now thanks to you guys. I missed the livestream but will have a listen. I read your blog often and am really inspired by your enthusiasm and lack of pretention!!! We are all on the journey, blunders and all. Keep the inspiration coming!
Thank you! I set up my 1/4 Acre field last year and found that the rows were slightly off because I was just eyeballing most of them but NOW I know how to fix them😀. I did 48” wide rows with 24” paths. I couldn’t even imagine 12” paths for flower growing!!! 😂 at times my zinnias and celosia rows were coming together in the paths. I did at least do the north to south facing part right. Thanks for providing such a basic but necessary planing video for all of us newbies.
Thank you Sharon! We’re so happy you found the video helpful! We do 18 inch walkways and come towards the end of the season if we didn’t trellis… it’s a mess haha! If you have any questions in crop planning we hope you join us for our livestream this evening 🧡

I wish someone would have taught the previous owners that did an add-on to our house the 3-4-5 rule lol.
For sure🫣
