A very few still do. The catch in the salt belt is being able to get the bleeders loose. Usually after about 3 years they just break off unless someone has religiously kept them clean and free.
Im not sure if they include brake fluid change at any service interval anymore. But what i will say is, if your brake fluid looks dark you should change it.
We always replace the fluid on our Honda/Acura. The master cylinders last forever, if you change the fluid every three years. It also seems to keep the ABS in good shape.
The general rule was to flush the system every 2 years (same with coolant). I did both on my '07 Silverado at year 9, and nothing is damaged. It does live in a garage most of the time, though.

Can you imagine the looks on the faces of the Daewoo engineers when GM said they wanted to ship them to America? There would have be a look of glee and horror all at the same time. Glee for the $$$ they were going to make and horror for what is about to happen. They designed a car for the average Korean but ship it to America where we put on ridiculous numbers of miles per year, are nominally 100 pounds heavier than the average Korean and apply copious amounts of liquid salt to our roads during the winter. Then there is New York where they seem to think salt brine is the cure for the common cold so they apply it to the dirt roads during the summer just for some added flavor in your morning coffee ... commute. I am so buying a Toyota next time. If Toyota ever builds a reliable 3/4 or 1 ton I"m all over that stuff.
I wanna thank you for introducing me to the Astro nano. Started doing the head on my 4b11 and it ripped the crank bolt right out without any issue. Was hilarious to see my buddy, who is a Chevy mechanic, pick his jaw up off the floor. He didn't believe that tiny thing had that much power.
Ny roads and may live down a dirt road. How many miles ? Looked like the first brake job 30,000-50,000. Who knows what they may have hit. I could turn any new car in to junk in 5 years. OK, back chevy/deadwoo bashing now.
I've had my 2013 Sonic since new. Now has 233,000km hwy (145,000 miles) and haven't had any major issues with it. Timing belt replacement was a shocker! First front break job @ 170,000km (106, 000 miles). It's been a great little car.
Also is it ok to grease the side of the brake hardware that touches the guides on the pads? And blast everything with brake kleen just to make sure there's no oil on it?
The chlorinated stuff is pretty nasty too. Made the mistake of lighting chlorinated carb cleaner on fire to kill a bee, it smelled like death and I ran outside immediately. Later found out it decomposes into phosgene gas (what they used during WWI in the trenches)

Did the fuel/gas change ? Cuz it seems we cant attain that without batteries and prayers .
Seems my 1977 GMC SIERRA CLASSIC 4x4 with a 350 4 barrel I got passed to me by my loving pops had the same wear and issues as my latest purchase a 2016 Dodge Crew Cab 1500 4x4 Ecodiesel... Canadian Monopoly money all said and done .... $68.000 bucks 😳 . I was 7 when he drove it home ( big improvement over the 65 International I guess) with mom in a new 4 door Le Sabre as well ... Guess what he paid ? $10500 for the truck and $5500 for the Buick ( that dam 305 always had a knock dad tried everything to help it). But it made it to Disney World and back ... Back in the day we farmed and milked about 60 cows . Moms gone Dads in a good home , my teaching sis just retired too .
I'm getting older so love your modest honesty of you and the kids and your partner are awesome . Monkey and the football story haha I even heard the 1st lady in the back comment lol . Love the show , I don't think you need to mention brands cause I know you gotta watch you chirp about . But can you chirp more on design issues as well ....
Best regards
Paul
Now that was a good video Eric. Wish I could smell the brake fluid. Nice job! Jim.
I just love getting a new video especially a long one it's coffee time in the morning that usually signifies a good day keep up the good work Eric
Do any of the auto manufacturers recommend changing the brake fluid? They used to.
Yeah every 4 years or 72k miles in my maintenance schedule.
Another busy day at SMA ! But the top man is on it . Great stuff Eric O.
Eric gotta hickey on da back of he's neck!
I reckon his wife hit him with a hot frying pan. He's probably been up to something dodgy ;)
Those are some very symmetric hickeys.
He mentioned those on the WUW video last week... chiropractor visit did "cupping" (snake oil).
Jimmy S
She was upset he bought her a KIA
@@JenniferF2882 yeah.....right ......cupping
so that's what they're calling it these days!!
but good on them.... if more men cupped with their lawfully married wives instead of some skank.....the divide between the sexes would be a little less wider
Eric you are the real deal. Thanks for the video!
"Be Ginger...." But I like Mary Ann.....
Always a pleasure to share the bay with ya!
be ginger? i would rather be Maryanne.
Mrs Howell she's got the money.
Another great video. l never get tired of watching you work, especially now that I am retired. Thanks Mr. O!
Expanding business to go carts I see.. Lol 😂
2013 ALREADY NEEDS BEARINGS, BRAKES AND JOINTS?
MUST BE A SHITTY CAR OR NY HAS SHITTY ROADS
@@ekop1778 maybe both???.....🤔
What is there not to like about your videos? You rock!!! Love the content! Being the son of a mechanic...watching you go old school on cars takes me back to my younger days when I was out there helping my dad wrench on cars. Love your dogs by the way!! Tell Mrs O HI from St. Louis!!
chevy sonic...imported straight from korea...cough daewoo cough...
Sort of, GM bought all of Daewoo in 2001. So although it is produced in Korea, it is still a GM.
@@Blazer02LS yes its GM korea division.....dont really care.....garbage cars...
@@70fastback94 the sonic bolt trax cruze....plus another 12 models are from korea...
@@Blazer02LS So what does GM "made in China"?
Love the slow mo and music for the slide hammer!
I don't know about anybody else, but I think it just plain wrong for us to hear Mrs. O, and not be able to see her!!
you and me both
AMEN to that!
A 5 year old car an you gotta replace half the front end. What a piece of garbage.
Ny roads and may live down a dirt road. How many miles ? Looked like the first brake job 30,000-50,000. Who knows what they may have hit. I could turn any new car in to junk in 5 years. OK, back chevy/deadwoo bashing now.
Well it could be like a Mercedes or BMW where you have to replace 1/2 of the electronics every year just to keep it on the road...
It could have 100,000 miles on it
Sonic may have been swallowed up by a NY pothole
I've had my 2013 Sonic since new. Now has 233,000km hwy (145,000 miles) and haven't had any major issues with it. Timing belt replacement was a shocker! First front break job @ 170,000km (106, 000 miles). It's been a great little car.
I never knew you could bend those control arms so much without them warping. Shows you how much I don't know 😂
Also is it ok to grease the side of the brake hardware that touches the guides on the pads? And blast everything with brake kleen just to make sure there's no oil on it?
Brake Clean in a green can? Must be gluten free or something
chlorine free,, Eric is saving the ozone
The chlorinated stuff is pretty nasty too. Made the mistake of lighting chlorinated carb cleaner on fire to kill a bee, it smelled like death and I ran outside immediately. Later found out it decomposes into phosgene gas (what they used during WWI in the trenches)
It's on sale at NAPA now $3 a can.
In CA both cans contain the same thing. Both non-chlorinated. Probably that way in NY too.
Man glad i dont have to deal with the rust like you. only time ive ever had a wheel baring that took more than a tap or 2 was a 18 year old car that still had factory
Chevy sonic is pieces junk cars
disposable car
South Main Auto, Thanks for the great videos, yall are true patriots!
Eric and his brake clean "Ta-da"!!!! As long as it works "Ta-da"!!!!!
Wow, flashback to high school. Have not seen riveted ball joints since the '70s. Back then cut off with big hammer and a cold chisel.
Great video with all the key attributes. Thanks for taking the time when you were behind.
You made this look too easy. Thanks, keep up the good work
MY FAVORITE, TOOL BIG NASTY 100%AND I ABSOLUTELY,LOVE THE MUSIC DR.O.ANOTHER AWSOME VIDEO.👍👍👍👍

Thanks for putting helpful and informative videos out so often! Look forward to them!
As a lifelong resident of Rochester I feel obligated to drive down to Avoca with donuts from OUR best bakery. Can't be having that riff raff from Buffalo making you think they have the best upstate donuts! :)
