By any chance, do you know why the fuel filter is different on certain models? The van you have has the same filer i have but mercedes gave me a different one . And so I started to notice very few videos on this style filter..infact the only video in the last like 15...any clue why? Srry for the book.
You are absolutely right. You can give Mercedes-Benz your Vin#, and chances are you will still get the wrong fuel filter. I wish that I could answer that question.

Ok this 3 pin fuel filter is the biggest pain in the ass to replace. It’s difficult to remove and nearly impossible to set to the point where you can start the screws and Mercedes quickly realized this and changed the design. Not fun to do diy.
So the trick to separate the plastic thing from the filter is this. As you can see the holes actually have threads and they take bolts from the bracket. So you rotate the plastic thing just a bit so its over the solid metal, then screw the bolts from the bracket until they are tight, then screw maybe one turn each side at a time and it will lift it right up.
