The reason why I am learning English is that I want to understand and get information about topics I'm interested for. World and scientific news. I'm not good yet but I try to do my best. She is right. 3 month and also 3 years is not enough for this. I watched also your video where you are talking about the same. Your thoughts are the similar because you're not trying to play with our expectations. Thank you for your honesty first off all and thank you for your care.
Lela, Could you please tell me how many hours of videos you watched to achieve this fluency in language ? Actually, I am learning french so your answer can greatly help me in discovering an estimate hours of daily language learning.
the final answer was amazing!!! I literally cried, special with the part that she says " when you have to interrupt your language and have to use another you feel you are no longer the same person" I agree is so hard when you can`t express yourself in the same way that you do in your own language and it is a frustrating feeling.
very rich conversation. I studied French for 8 years, and I watched movies in french almost all my life and I'm not good yet, so I agree totally with her. to me knowing many languages nowadays, makes you an international person who sees in ND i mean if you know 3 languages so you see the world in 3D, but if you know just your dialect you see the world in black and white.

Dear Christian I'm glad to see that you had a speedy recovery after coming down with the virus. It's profoundly inspiring to watch your videos, not only as a fellow teacher but also as a student. The scientific-based content is fascinating, and it brings me so much joy to see how we can alter people's murky perception of language acquisition. Thank you for inspiring us with your ever-growing passion and experience. Warmest regards
Another delightful interview with the one and only Patsy Lightbown. It's interesting what she says about her French teacher, who inspired her when she was 16. I think we sometimes underestimate the effect we have on our students. You can't, Christian, because your followers say it often enough and in wonderful ways.
Christian, thanks for picking up such interesting questions. I also want to gratitude Professor Emerita. The most important information for me was said nearly at the end: language is a crucial part of our identity. When language is interrupted by some way, you suddenly find yourself feeling not like yourself. This what so many adult language learners experience, they suddenly find themselves feeling childlike and dependent and they need to build up their confidence again in the new language. I found it so true from my own experience. Christian, thanks again for such wonderful interview series.
If the way that your guest spoke in this interview is her normal everyday’s life way of speaking. If she dit not simplify her way of speaking to facilitate the comprehension, then I can affirm that I understand English more than I thought so far, and it’s partly thanks to you Christian. I totally agree with her that learning a language is not a cumulative process; it is rather an interactive and cyclical process. Acquiring a language is a lifetime project, she said. Yes she is right if we consider the fact that we still have something to acquire in our own native languages. It was an enlightening and valuable interview. Thank you.🙏
Hello, thank you so much for this beautiful interview. I'm a french student who wants to become an English teacher and thanks to you I really want to keep going. People like you are my source of inspiration, so thank you again really.
Here is my short story. It was 30 years ago I was studying at school and the subject as English language was introduced to us. I remember my passion for making my own word cards, I remember my eagerness to memorize the lyrics of Freddy Mercury's masterpieces for analysing it after. My life has changed drastically since then. And the main reason was that I wanted to be different to my classmates, my course mates at the University, my colleagues at work. Yes, to gain my own identity.
What a beautiful end. Don't you think so? The music, her emotion taking her voice while "feelthinking" the answer, our passionated teacher Chris smiling, everything deeply touching.
Hi, Chris It´s a pleasure to watch these sort of videos with people with this huge experience in teaching english. I suposse everyone finds yourself way for learning a language. In my case, I usually listen the videos trying whithout watching the translation in english, but sometimes I stop the viewing to write several words that they are new to me, or I can´t remember what is the right translation in my spanish language.

Hey Christian, I think I’ve never left any comments on your videos, but just to let you know that they help me a lot on my learning language process and some of them are very inspiring! Thank you so much 🙏
Mastering English is so helpful to me in learning other languages because there are abundance of foreign language learning resources available in English than my own mother tongue language. 🤗
The purpose of learning a language must to be like, to understand others and to make others understand you, that's all. About understanding grammar, conditions, structures, it will come through your speaking experiance, you won't even bat an eye when you understand all thees things. It doesn't mean that you don't need to learn the grammar and other things, but to realise, for what you need this language.
