    In a capacitor with two parallel plates, why is it that when one plate is moved sideways to reduce the opposite surface area, the potential difference between the plates increases? What is the physical explanation for this?

    Hi,in my book the Work done on the charge is equal to the negative of the change in PE. I your lecture, it says W=change PE. Which's one correct?

      Depends what force is doing the work. An external force of the force from the electric field.
