  • Planting seeds and starter plants so they're evenly spaced and all lined up in a row can be a challenge. But it doesn't have to be when you make a Planting Board - the perfect guide for spacing seeds and plants. It's super easy, quick to make and should cost you less than five bucks. I have two and I use them all the time. You will too.

The speed square, when held tight against the board, can also be used as a guide for the saw for either square of 45 deg. cuts. Just run the saw base along the speed square being careful to align the saw with your mark. Maybe not really necessary on such short cuts as these, but it can come in handy.

Hey Andrew. Wow, that might be challenging. Since the metric world is foreign to me, I really don't know an easy way to convert that for you here. If it were me, I'd use Siri or Alexa on my smart speaker, or some other online app for a quick and easy metric converter. But moreover, each seed and seedling have different spacing requirements. Those are always listed on the seed packs or container. My best advice is to check whatever it is you're wanting to plant for information that should be provided with it for the proper spacing. Plus, it should provide that information in metric numbers for you. Good luck.

      hii Joe,
      thanks
can you pls write down what are the spacing you have on your seeding wood or ruler.. it is ok in imperial unit. i can convert it.
just tell me what veggie use what spacing.. (the one you made in this video)
those spacing on the seed packing is all mostly different.. i can't do a seeding wood like your with so many diversity of spacing..
so i want a few that is so common for leafy, or ... common things.
      thankyou.

Hey Andrew. My spacing is notched every 3 inches. The notches are my reference for spacing the various varieties of seeds. Spacing may be as close as 3 inches for carrots, 6 inches for beets, lettuce and spinach, etc. The seed packets always tell you how far apart to space the seeds. You'll just have to make the conversion and then use the notches to know which ones to use for proper spacing. But for making this board, I have a blog post I wrote about this with all the details here: joegardener.com/video/how-to-make-a-planting-board-the-perfect-guide-for-evenly-spacing-seeds-and-plants/
