    Thank you soooo much . I’m a new gardener at 62, so any thing that keeps me at gardening is big for me. Again thanks from GE.

    Wonderful! Ive tried explaining this concept to my husband many times, but since I am no carpenter and he is no gardener, something is always lost in translation. This will help tremendously!

    A threaded dowel with a bolt you can adjust for seed depth would be really nice, especially for the kids. Great vid! Thanks!

    Thanks for sharing! I'll be working on this over the holiday :) One comment on the first step of marking every 3/4". Unless I'm missing something, looking at where the holes are being drilled, I think you can just mark every 1.5" instead to save some time :)

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you are probably correct on that, I changed the layout a couple of times and the final layout didn't use every grid line

      3/4" vs. 1.5" ... the smaller gridline, while more work, satisfied my OCD

    Great idea, a small practical improvement: how About we print out the template from the internet, saves time measuring etc. Can even just stick it on the wood.

  • @AbarothsWorld
    @AbarothsWorld 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but your 8-seed spacing SHOULD be the same as your 9-seed spacing, but leaving the central hole empty.
    This would improve the space for the seeds and involve making less holes in your template !

    Thank you very much:) If that slim piece of dowling were longer....you could slip it through one of the holes and measure off depths of planting for seeds too....then paint different coloured lines around the dowl in the top portion (having left a space) to indicate the proper depth had been reached....or keep a batch of colour coded dowls of appropriate length?

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Darling Stuff yes that is exactly what I did, the dowel is color coded for different depths and it fits in the holes on the template

    I like your concept and all. I also like your channel. But, your 9 per square spacing is off. The 9 per square holes should be 2" from edge, then 4" spacing to next hole, then 4" to 3rd hole then 2" to edge. (12" total) Then the center hole of course. This would be vertically and horizontally. (If you drew a tic-tac-toe grid with equal thirds and then find the centers, it may be easier to see.) I also agree with the commenter that said your 8 per square spacing (per Mel) should be the same as the 9 per square spacing, just don't use the center hole. I do appreciate all you guys do. Thanks!

  • @yackfzay6224

    That's different from other that I have seen. This one you can measure the depth a seeds. Some seeds are so tiny that you can't put to deep. Great project.

    cool idea. You demonstrated one square foot of garden, what about the next, and the next square foot, how would you know where you've planted?

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ryan Floyd Generally I just start in one corner and move all the way down the row. Then go back to the center row and move all the way down. Keep doing that until you have planted the whole bed.

    Your holes for 9/square are wrong. Need to add 8 more holes at 2"/6"/10" for proper 4" spacing. But don't drill the 4 holes that you paint blue w/o white.

  • @aries4906
    @aries4906 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I appreciate the idea, but your measurements are off a little. If you were to repeat this project and lay both squares next to each other, the spacing should be continuous. For example the 6 seed pattern should start 2 inches in from the edge and 4 inches from each other. Then the 2 inch from the edge holes will continue to be 4 inches apart when repeated.

    Thanks for the how-to; this will be a very handy garden tool. I think I will make a few more to give away as gifts to fellow gardeners. I too could have done without the Bible verses as I see religion as nothing more than a myth created by humans who lacked the scientific knowledge necessary to make sense of the world in which he lived, but it's your channel.
