I was at the race, and Scott Dixon's crazy strategy came out of nowhere. It was amazing to see him finish a whole lap ahead of Pato. Props to Dixon for the fuel saving strategy

It's wild that the Indy 500 can fill the stands, but Indycar's other races have empty seats everywhere. I think it just highlights how important tradition really is.
I think it has more to do with the consitancy of the product than tradition every year they have a couple weeks of practice for the 500 which always makes the 500 a good entertaining race when Gateway returned it was packed but the track only has one lane combined with fuel saving only the last 40 laps are entertainig add Nascar coming to Gateway attendance is guranteed to drop the problem with Texas is the same fuel saving and high temps make over half the race a parade plus having multiple boring races in a row attendance drops by the time indy has a good race like the last Texas race nobody sees it and they cant recover
It does seem that way but when I look back a few years ago with the same races there are a ton more people there than in the past. It’s just a slow process of gaining populatity
Funny thing is, it’s only really the non-Indy ovals that have attendance like this. I think most if not all of the road and street races have been pretty packed, or at least very well attended.
@@mitchellmelrose9175 it seems like if it’s not the Indy 500 at an oval race, people prefer nascar. I find it very confusing because the main strategy in nascar oval races is drafting which can be extremely boring compared to Indycar.

This is just my opinion... the reason why started racing in the daytime NASCAR races at Gateway now...if they would have race Saturday night it would go up against Daytona night race..I would imagine it's in the contract to keep the keep the NASCAR race... race the next day...and the purpose of this track was to get NASCAR..I could be wrong..but it makes the most sense..because your right night races are so much better and lot cooler

Kinda weird seeing an Indycar stop vs an F1 pit stop. F1 has as many people on one corner as Indy does servicing the whole car.
I quite enjoy it. Definitely puts more responsibility on the individuals in the crew seeing as they've got to do everything on that corner.
They really need to do something about the marbles.

Having 8 spotters say "green green green" during the opening lap doesn't add to the production quality.
I'm a die-hard F1 fan and I simply do not understand what's so exciting about an oval race coures. I'm not saying it's stupid because I just don't understand it, but just what is the fascination? I know that most people say that Oval driving is very difficult (even many F1 drivers who are or have driven Ovals).. I don't know, it just doesn't click with me personally.
However, I think it would be great to make Indy international as well and offer something like F1TV, a paid subscription which allows you to stream live races and re-watch past races. IMO that would add a lot of appeal for anyone who hasn't had much contact with Indy (basically everyone outside of the US).
I've been going to the Indy 500 for 16 years now, and the thing that makes it magical for me is a sheer speed of the cars -- not just on a straight, but on the corners too. I used to get bored my first few races, but I started learning more about the difficulties of oval racing and began listening to the team radios as I watched the action. I've grown to admire oval racing (though I can see why you find it boring to watch). You might be able to catch some past races on TH-cam

Gateway needs to be at night only, 1-lane oval racing is pretty terrible. Newgarden and O’Ward could barely clear the lapped cars at all

It just means there is one preferred way around the track and if you go outside that you cant pass. @@L.internet8
