Getting The Stage 5 Turbo EFI Predator 212 Go Kart Ready to Drive!

  • In this video we do everything that the kart would need in order to be driven for the first time. This includes making a boost capacitor, tuning in things like a rev limiter, and repainting the body with 2k clear. We got the idea from you guys about the boost capacitor and did some research and found an mit article about single cylinder turbocharging that shows the practicality of adding a capacitor to store air. After making that, we messed with the efi a little bit and added some fuel mapping and a rev limiter.
    Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe to see this thing drive!

    Try cutting a small window in the cowl by the flywheel. Mount a rubber disk/wheel on a one wire alternator and mount it against the flywheel. In such a configuration you will always be spinning and charging while running and no belts. A snowmobile battery and you'll have all the power you want and be compact too. Great stuff. Bo.

    As a person that has turbo charged single cylinder Yamaha raptor for years, I was very jealous when you read the article and explained what took me years of trying to learn. Also a stupid large turbine with the small compressed wheel and ar will help trick the turbo for the 720* issue as well

I personally have used auto-tune on a different style ecu and never had an issue as long as you set up auto-tune correctly. try to not have idle included in the self tuning for a setting in the parameters that way once idle is set it's not trying to chase itself.

    Awesome 👍! With that boost tank, I think it's going to loose efficiency. If it were my setup I would have the shortest path possible from ex valve to intake. Have you guys tried draw-through before adding efi?

    • @jdalzell3354
      @jdalzell3354 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It still won't work. The intake plenum on single cylinder turbo engines have a scavange problem. This is due to the pulsation effect of having a single cylinder. By adding a manifold that is 2.5x the displacement of the engine you will almost remove this pulsation problem.

    I wonder if hydro forming like some people do for 2-strokes would work for the pressure reservoir pipe, also I've yet to see anyone do some hot-bending with temporary infill (like dry sand) on these kind of projects to get nice tight radius curves on pipes without needing a mandrel setup. (Seen some other videos that show it's possible, like this one motorcycle shop in Japan that has it down to an art.)

  • @bobwhite5440
    @bobwhite5440 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    couple of safety concerns. not a good idea to weld galvanized steel. it produces toxic gas. i'm certainly not a paint guy, but i'm fairly sure you need proper ventilation and breathing protection when using that 2K clear. a dust mask is not adequate. not trying to be a wise guy, simply concerned for your health.

      Usually I'd get humored from a post like this. However this man is not lying or sugar coating. • @WayneMiller1110
    @WayneMiller1110 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    that one been to have in the air tank though is almost a 90-degree angle that might cause some problems because you weren't nice smooth curves for the air to flow around instead of it hitting a wall bouncing back and forth

    I noticed a lot of blogs etc talking about these bolt on turbo charger kits and they don't understand that it's not as easy as it sounds bolt-on makes it sound like you bolted up and it's done except a lot of times you run into issues and you need to custom make parts for it because they don't sell them to actually get power that you want I guess you could bolt it on if you want to make 3 lb of boost and that's it but then you have to add more fuel as well so it's all about turning it as well you can't just bolt it up a lot of these people don't have any electronics hooked up to it it's just a small engine

  • @RollinMyOwn

    If your having some trouble welding thin metal get a big transformer take all the wire off rewrap it with 10 guage wire the more wraps the better. One end to the ground clamp one to the work. It'll lower your heat enough to weld thin like 18 guage sheet.

    You could try using an electric motor from a small go-ped. Some of them are 24 volt tho, so you will need a voltage regulator. But the motor is quite small and would supply plenty of power.

  • @WayneMiller1110
    @WayneMiller1110 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    good thinking because there's only one exhaust Port so the turbo won't be spooling when it's sucking in there it will be spooling but not under power it'll just be residual spin left over from the last exhaust stroke you still gain boost but this way you should make more I would have a pressure release valve or something though that can work but I don't know how you would set that up without a computer controlling it but the way you have it with the smaller tube running out in the bigger coming in that means I can get all that are in there but then only sucks so much through that might work amazingly to hold more pressure in it for reserve or it might restrict the airflow going into the engine I guess we'll find out

    Ok so a air capacitor sounds like a good idea. But the way you made it sound is the turbo stops spinning because the exhaust valve is not open. Therefore not making any boost. Well we know from your other video it was making 8+ hp at the shaft. Keep up the videos though

    using a hole saw would have been nicer on the body for the brake reservoir to go through.

    Now you don't see many small engines with an O2 sensor in the exhaust does that mean this has a computer on Ford that would be awesome cuz you could tune it that way as long as you have the right stuff electronically controlled how hard is it to install a O2 sensor and does that pretty much have to be done for a turbo installed or is it just recommended to help the engine run better I'm only asking because me and my son are about to start a project I have an old frame I don't know if we're going to cut it up and make her own thing yet watching cars and cameras that off-road truck is pretty cool that they built there's also another channel that build a Barbie jeep that is awesome but we might just find a way around to bulk up the suspension and put an engine on it but after the basic setup to get it to run he'll be a little older and I would like to teaching how to make more power and get into like a custom cart I am ase-certified in gas engines Small engines is just a smaller form of that and I've also taken classes in high performance so I would love to teach him these things that way if he gets into the field later he'll have a pretty good common knowledge and if he doesn't then he'll still have that knowledge my son is 8 years old he just turned this last May and he's just starting to get over the fear of dirt bikes and go-karts or four wheelers
