hey Eric, glad you like the boxcar. I never heard of Aurora Miniatures until I went to the ST Louis RPM last year. I met the owner and he definitely has an eye for detail and a passion for the hobby. Since my mom is a breast cancer survivor, I purchased the HO Scale Greenbrier 6276 cf 50' Plate F Boxcar - FBOX 504927 and run it on the layout in her honor. Like my mom, it runs like a champ! Terry
Hi Terry - first off glad to hear your mother's been doing well since then. That's cool you met the owner of the company and it's always encouraging when they are either hobbyists themselves or just appreciate a well-detailed and quality model. Hope to see more from this company.
Eric, thanks for the review and have a blessed New Year! This boxcar looks fantastic! With the high quality, great detailing and reasonable price, I hope they expand their offerings. It will look even better when you get it weathered!
Thanks for the review. As Aurora is a relatively new company, the quality of detail is amazing. It's almost too good to have on the layout for fear of breaking it.
The good news is those plastic pieces on the doors are pretty easy to avoid and seem pretty well set in place. I'm hoping this will be the standard for Aurora's N scale models, I'd love to have more of these.
Very nice model. Too new for me. But it is nice we are getting more manufacturers doing quality work. Love the chain link between the columns at the bakery. Nice touch!
Absolutely Greg, especially while keeping pricing in check. While I was out at Lombard they had a full shelf of N ScaleTrains cars on sale for around $30 or so, nearly every model. I really had to restrain myself.
That is an exceptional model, got 2 coming to me soon, the newer 60 ft from Micro Trains would be a fairer comparison, the one you showed is there old 60 ft
@ChicagoCrossingRR the MT 123 52 011 TTX boxcar also has cut levers and air hoses included in the box, buyer applied, separate latch bars ,cross over etched, separate applied end ladders, not quite as much underbody detail but nice, retail 44.98,very comparable 7538 cu ft model
@@davebnsfnscale4433 really helpful to know that MT is a more upgraded model - I suspect it would have to be. Maybe I'll get one to review because the comparison would be great. With that in mind a cheaper model where these parts are already added constitutes a better value for the money, even if I personally don't have an issue with adding some parts post hoc. Pricing on the models is sort of a funny thing, I've not been able to discern a clear pattern to it. It doesn't seem to perfectly align with whether something is made in US or overseas, or degree of detail/quality.
@@ChicagoCrossingRR Well....May be Éric and those in the US, jump now cause if taxes on China things is applied, that could be a big blow in your modeling budget.
@@danielfantino1714 definitely could be - most manufacturers offshored their production long ago. There's probably a host of interesting geopolitical considerations that will undoubtedly impact model railroading in the next decades (and lots of other things), thankfully I'll leave those videos to others.
I have several of the Micro Trains TBOX cars that are similar to the Aurora cars and they are some of the most expensive cars I own. Check out the TH-cam video: "Making the Micro-Trains TBOX". there are an insane number of separately applied parts on those things which puts into perspective the WHY they cost so much. I don't think I'd want to bankroll a fleet of them, but as the owner of a few Scale Trains rivet counter locomotives, ya get what you pay for! Then there's Bachman and their $50 tank car..... Other than the very stiff couplers, a number of us found that the trucks fit too tightly on the mounting pin on the car, and the hole had to be opened up ever so slightly with a circular file to allow the trucks to swivel freely. Other than that, they (as well as the Micro-Trains TBOX) are stunning cars for us N scalers. I will probably try to score a couple more of these, and pick up a couple of the Atlas versions which are in the works
I just picked one of these TBOX cars up to review. I like MicroTrains stuff generally as a good mid-range model that's affordable and detailed enough to look good. From a review perspective I like to be cognizant of value for the money so this will be an interesting comparison!
That is great detail for a stock car. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Chris - it'll probably be one of the first I do if I get bored with all the other stuff going on ;)

So nice to get several glimpses of the old “neighborhood.” 😉
Ha, thanks!

You'll absoutely enjoy them Dave. Even though they're a bit newer than the date of my railroad I'm probably going to pick up a couple more.
