Having a brand new car and owning it for a decade has to be an interesting feeling, knowing all the tech was new when you bought it and watching it kinda go out of date over time when getting into newer cars.

Funny thing is, if they put a Kia Rio 2013-like car back on the market (or just started re-manufacturing the 2013), I would purchase another. It'd be cheaper than most modern vehicles on this planet, and the Kia Rio 2013 was a good car. Bluetooth, heated seats, AC, satellite radio, and not terrible performance. And beyond all of that, frankly, it's just a car that works. This simple and relatively comfortable car is a great commuter vehicle. On top of that, basic maintenance (stuff like adding and replacing oil, changing filters, replacing lights, brake pads, and even rotors) is easy and can be done in a driveway. Its engine, assuming you keep it topped up on oil and coolant, is a sufficiently powerful and reliable powerplant for any car.

Honestly there is no better feeling than buying a car and keeping it for a long time and knowing it is in better condition than many newer cars that people neglect. Buying a car is "easy" but keeping a car is a whole new deal

I remember when you first bought it. In 2013. Nostalgia at its finest.
I bought a 2024 Kia K5 back in October with 70 miles. I hope I can make a 10 year report just like you did with your Rio.

Got it from my mom, and i am now driving a 2013 kia rio. Dark grey. Its been dependable too. After this time, just replaced brakes a few times, battery once, the check air pressure sensors in all 4 tires had to be replaced. But im hoping to make it last til 2033.

Gil, I owned a 2002 Kia Rio and I had it up until it was involved in an accident in 2015. A lady cut me off and hit the car.The car was totaled. I bought the car when Kia was pretty new and i didn't have much money at the time and it was affordable. I had it stripped down; no AC, roll-up windows, lousy radio, etc. The car was O.K. for about the first 50,000 miles and then it started falling apart. Mainly, the brakes kept needing to be repaired and the transmission kept slipping and changing gears. The car would stall often when stuck in traffic. Since I live in a cold, snowy climate I always had trouble b/c the doors would often freeze and I couldn't get inside. I would buy lock de-icer and other stuff, but it didn't work often. Usually I just threw hot water on the key hole, and that would work, but it usually re-froze once you got to your destination. I'm sure Kia worked out many issues by 2013 when you bought your car. Where I live many roads have huge pot holes from all the bad weather and the suspension and shocks were bad on the car. I used the insurance money ($2,500) to buy a 1999 Toyota Camry.

That particular car was made with two separate keys. There was one key for the ignition and there was one key for the trunk and the doors. The key that starts your car is different from the key that goes to the doors in the trunk. That's probably why your key is not working right.

I would never buy a new car, worst thing you can do. I bought a 2012 Honda Accord EXL-V6 back in October 2020 and it only had 26,000 miles and now only has 34,000 Miles. I traded my 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage for $4500 and only paid $8000 for the Accord. The car is in real good condition and I expect it to last another 10+ years, since I maintain it all the time.

You probably just need to put a little coolant in the air conditioner. It probably doesn't even have a leak. That stuff can leak out really slowly over time. The AC compressor will stop kicking if it's low on coolant. It might have enough pressure in the very beginning to kick on for a few seconds and then as it cools a little bit it loses that pressure. There's a lot of videos on TH-cam that show how to fill it up. You can buy a cheap can with the filling hose already on it for under $20. It may be worth trying. They make a can of 134a refrigerant with a fill hose and gauge attached to it. That's honestly all you need to fill it up. You're supposed to start the car and turn the AC on full blast as you fill it up and watch the gauge that is on the can. There's a lot of videos. The directions will be right on the can, also. Another real cheap thing to check is the fuse for the ac compressor. Look in your owner's manual if you have it and check all the fuses that are related to the AC. You could probably get a window really cheap at a junkyard and replace that yourself. With the internet, there are videos basically showing you every single step on how to do those things. I've saved myself thousands of dollars fixing my own stuff since the internet came about. You can also find a lot of parts cheap on Amazon and Ebay. Usually cheaper than the store for auto supplies. It would be worth a shot to try a can of r234a. You might be able to get the air conditioner going for under $20. They may be closer to $30 these days. The gauge on the can will also show you how much is in it. If it's full, you would know that it's not leaking anywhere, so it would have to be something else. I would check the fuses and relays before I did anything. That would be a real cheap fix. You can take a relay from a different component of the car and switch it with that one because they usually have several of the exact same ones in the fuse box. That's a good way to test that part without spending a penny. There's usually at least one fuse and one relay going to the AC system. That stuff is a whole lot easier to check than most people think. A couple Google searches and somebody has step by step instructions.

You're were saying earlier that your key doesn't open your front doors and your trunk. Maybe your key needs to be changed because over time the keys start to wear out That causes it not to open locks

Kia’s are some safe vehicles I just recently got in a car wreck in my 2017 Kia Rio that I had since new some driver rear ended me at 40 mph while I was at a traffic light the impact was hard enough for me to hit the car in front of me and that caused the airbag to go off but I walked away with back pain and feeling soar and it was totaled but it’s got me feeling %100 percent safe in my two other Kia’s i will say the rios are solid vehicles my 2 other cars I have is a 2020 Kia rio that I bought new and it’s still running good 60,000 miles later and my 2022 Kia rio that I bought new still running great after 8,000 miles Kia’s got them a customer for life

I hope you get a lot more years out of that car,I like hearing about cars that are still on the road, with a lot of miles,I thought in one of your videos that that back little window was missing, you need AC,I know here in Georgia it gets very hot,I put money in 2 different vehicles to get the AC blowing again, with the airbag light look up under the driver's and passenger side seat and make sure the wiring is completely pushed together, usally a yellow plug,I also put WD40 on my key and inside ignition switch,it works a lot better, you can also take those hubcaps off and get some at Walmart, even if the lug nuts are on the other ones,Run some B12 CHEMTOOL through a whole tank of gas to maybe stop pinging, the oil might be a thicker oil when you don't lose any.
